    3. I have two Bargers in my Centre County family tree. The first is Charlotte Mildred BARGER (1917-1990) m. Milton Edward GLOSSNER (1913-1985). He was the s/o John Lott GLOSSNER and Cora BARNER. Their children were David Craig GLOSSNER and Judith Anne GLOSSNER. The second is Henry Lee BARGER (1860-1926) m. Nancy Jane WALKER (1866-1906) on 12/30/1866 in Moshannon, PA. She was the d/o Jacob WALKER and Mary ECKLEY. Do you know the parents of Charlotte Mildred BARGER and/or Henry Lee BARGER? If you would like further information on the lineages of Milton Edward GLOSSNER or Nancy Jane WALKER, just let me know. Thanks! 1. [PACENTRE] Request for Obituary - Mary Martin
    2. Is there any one whom I can request to search the newspaper archive for an obituary on Mary MARTIN. She was born in 1831 and in the 1900 census she was living in Hawk Run. All other relatives were buried in the Philipsburg Cemetery. Unfortunately I do not know the death year, but the 1900 census says she was 69 years of age so I would guess she didn't live too long after that. She had sons name Richard, James and Thomas LONG. She was born in England and had previously been married to James Long. I would be willing to pay a reasonable sum to obtain a copy of any obit that could be found. Thank you Orleata, So. California

    1. Re: [PACENTRE] Eagle Cemetery
    2. Eagle Cemetery is in Boggs Twp., Centre Co., PA. From the Milesburg Exit (No. 23) on I-80, go North on Route 150/220 (toward Lock Haven). Before long there will be a road for Curtin Village on your right. Take this road (you should go over a narrow bridge you can't see the other side of). Wind through Curtin Village, past the church and graveyard, and you will come out on the old Route 220. I can't remember whether you then turn left or right but I think you turn right. The cemetery is up on the hill. You can't see it from the road, but there is a white sign that says "Eagle Cemetery" at the entrance to the access road. I hope this helps. Grandma Barger was one of our oldest inhabitants. She has no headstone but her husband, who was a veteran of 1812, has one in the Eagle Cemetery. It is presumed she rests in the unmarked space beside him. 1. Re: [PACENTRE] Black Oak Cemetery
    2. Richard, The Black Oak Cemetery, Worth Twp, is accessible in this manner: Coming down U.S. Route 322 from Philipsburg to Port Matilda, the cemetery will be on your left, on a hill, behind the Black Oak United Methodist Church. Along with my grandparents, I recorded it in 1997, and it is in the possession of the Centre County Genealogical Society awaiting publication. It has about 25 rows of graves, and the rows go up the hill, which is quite steep. You can park in the church parking lot. Black Oak is very neatly mowed and well maintained, but be careful, as I did see a snake there in the past. You cannot access the cemetery coming up from Port Matilda to Philipsburg as Route 322 is divided and the westbound lanes do not come near the church. Only by driving on the eastbound lanes can you turn into the church lot. If you are on U.S. 322 West, get on the eastbound lanes at Reese Hollow Road and Flat Rock Exit and I think you should be able to find it. Hope this helps. 2. Sue, I re-checked Mary Belle Lontz's records of the County cemeteries and find that I overlooked Milesburg as it was not grouped together in the index with the other Boggs Twp cemeteries. It is listed separately. Anyhow, yes, I find the John Turner & Wm Turner graves, but don't think these dates match yours. (I apologize for having deleted your earlier e-mail with the dates.) Here's what I just found -- John Turner, b ca 1741, d 12/16/1822, 81y Wm Turner, b ca 1769, d 3/14/1833 "Aunt Pollie" 9/12/1781 - 10/30/1857 "Aunt Peggie" 10/6/1789 - 10/14/1861 Silas B. Turner, d 10/2/1846, 41 These are the only Turner records recorded in this work for the Milesburg cem. I trust this is helpful. Fred Houts, Brooklyn Center MN

    1. Re: [PACENTRE] Re: Milesburg Cemetery
    2. Paul and list, The Milesburg Cemetery was established in 1793 at the same time Milesburg was laid out. I would assume the land was given by the Miles family for use as a community burial ground. Thus it was not associated with a church and there are no known burial records. That is not to say, however, that if the local churches buried their dead in it they might have kept a record of that. The churches in Milesburg going back that far include a Baptist Church, Presbyterian Church, and Methodist Church. Milesburg Cemetery's oldest gravestone dates to 1794 and the last burial was about 1909. The cemetery is believed to be completely full. It had lain in disrepair for some years before having been cleaned up by Scouts in 1980. It is in a good state of upkeep today. He married Sarah Sabina CUPPLES in Newton Hamilton, Mifflin Co., PA and then returned to Centre County (near Bellefonte) where at least one of his three children were born (in 1859). I cannot find him in the 1850 census. He was captured at the Battle of the Wilderness and died at Andersonville Prison. Any help greatly appreciated! I'm really at a dead end here! Linda

    1. Re: [PACENTRE] Milesburg Cemetery
    2. Susan and list, I have just returned from an extended trip but will attempt to answer your question as best I am able. The Milesburg Cemetery was read in 1928 or so by the late Adella Spangler. When we (CCGS) read it a few years ago -- my grandfather and I doing the actual readings -- we had a copy of the Spangler information along with us. When a stone was unreadable we would consult the Spangler listing and see if it looked like that was what it said. We were able to make out many stones that way to at least identify location. There are no lot or burial records for that graveyard so the recording of the stones and their locations, as we have done, was vital for accessibility of the information to future generations. The Boggs Township/Milesburg Borough book is not anticipated in the extremely near future, but it is in progress. I may have a listing for that cemetery somewhere here, but as I have come home to literally hundreds of emails I cannot now take the time for an indepth search. What I can tell you to do is write to the Centre County Library in Bellefonte. I do remember the John Turner stone (Rev Vet). There is a new, replacement stone on the grave, probably done by a descendant because the old one could no longer be deciphered.
