    3. 1801 to 1891 Johnny come latelys. The old names had come and some of them gone by 1801. Many warrants were bought and sold by speculaters who never saw the land. Records that are not at the county courthouse are at the archives in Harrisburg. Unless they were destoryed by fire. Squatters were not uncommon, but didn't get title to the land. That's one of the reasons some of the old names moved on.----- Original Message ----- From: "Sue Renkert" <suerenkert@gci.net> To: <PACENTRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, August 29, 2001 1:54 PM Subject: Re: [PACENTRE] Check out CENTRE WARR of Land, [PA ARCH 3:25:785] > Thanks, Jean, for sharing this. 3. I am looking for any information for Joseph Kramer b. 1794 and Mary Brown. Mary was born in Centre Co, and Joseph was born in Lancaster. Their son Lewis was born July 24, 1818 near Bellefonte, Centre Co PA I would very much like to find the parents of Joseph, as I'm sure he belongs to my Kramer lines. Can anyone help me find more for this family Thanks Sue Kramer

    1. [PACENTRE] Lillian Leitzell
    2. Paula Leitzell
    3. Justin, Thanks for the information that you posted on Lillian Leitzell. We did not know who she married (Kennelley). Lillian's parents were Michael Leitzell and Alice Mingle. Michael was the son of Samuel Leitzell of Spring Mills. Lillian would be my father's first cousin since my grandfather James Leitzell was a brother of Michael. Samuel's parents were Philip Leitzell and Juliann Noffsker who also resided in Spring Mills. Philip was the son of Jacob Leitzel of Berks County and grandson of Rev. Johann Wolfgang Leitzel our immigrant ancestor. Bob Charles R. 2. Hi Justin, Thank you for the information on Harold Kennelley. I never knew any of the details of his death, nor his parents first names. I first heard of him while searching for the SpringMills Cemetery. We stopped & chatted with a young older couple and when they heard the name Kennelley they graciously led the way to the Cemetery. The woman said she was 75 yrs old and had gone to school with Harold. I feel badly that I didn't write their names & address down. They lived across the road from a pretty white church and cemetery on the hill about a mile N. NW. of route 45. We had driven past the area 5 or 6 times, as it is obstructed from the highway. I wonder how many others have looked for the cemetery. Wish there was a sign there. Would you check the file on the parents of Harold Kennelley; Robert Gates Kennelley & Lillian L. Leitzell? I'm interested in knowing who their parents & families are? Thank you. Dorothy

    3. Thanks, Jean, for sharing this. Folks would do well to check the entire list. They are grouped alphabetically, but many names are not in the right categories. I noticed that many of our old Centre County names are not listed. Does anyone know why this would be? Did folks rent land? Or were there a lot of sales of land to others? Are these records available? Were there other means to acquire land in Centre County other than land warranties? Did some folks just find a piece of land and settle on it? It would be interesting to know more about this piece of our history. 1. [PACENTRE] S/Sgt Harold R. Kennelley (1922-1944)
    2. Good evening, list, Thanks, Fred, for posting that obit. According to my records, Harold had no other family than his parents, Robert Gates Kennelley (1885-1943) and Lillian L. (Leitzell) Kennelley (1877-1967). The nearest survivors would likely be cousins. 2. Dorothy, I'm glad you were able to make it here to Centre Co and had such a good time at the fair. I wish I could take credit for the re-setting of that tombstone, but it was not I who did it. I don't know who that kind soul is but am glad they were able to do that so that everyone can visit that grave and know its occupant. It sounds like you had a most interesting and productive visit and am very glad for that. 2. His obituary from the CENTRE DEMOCRAT of Thurs., 24 Aug 1944 reads: "Staff-Sergeant Harold R. Kennelley, previously reported missing while on a bombing mission over Germany, was killed, according to a telegram received by his mother, Mrs. Lillian Kennelley, of Spring Mills, on Friday of last week. The message contained no details of the young man's death, but advised that a letter would follow. On July 19, Mrs.Kennelley was notified by the War Department that her son was missing from a bombing mission over German territory on July 7. The last letter received by Mrs. Kennelley from her son was dated June 3. Sergeant Kennelley was a waist gunner and radio operator on a B-17 Flying Fortress. He was inducted into service January 2, 1943, and took his basic training at Miami, Florida. On completion of his initial training he was sent to Radio School at Sioux Falls, S.D.; then to Gunnery School at Laredo, Texas, and from there to Kerns, Utah, for special training. Upon completing this work he was sent back to Sioux City, Iowa. Later he was transferred to an Army base in Virginia from which point he left for overseas duty with the American Air Forces in Italy. He arrived in Italy sometime in May, and it was while in his eleventh mission that he met death. Sergeant Kennelley is the only child in the family. He attended Gregg Township schools and is a graduate of Gregg Township Vocational School, class of 1940. He was active in baseball, basketball and soccer. Before entering the service he was employed at the local silk mill."

    2. Howdy Justin and to all of you in Centre County. Sorry for this intrusion, but just have to tell you about the wonderful time my family & myself had at the Centre Hall Grange Fair. We traveled over 4 hrs. to get there from Erie, Pa. It was well worth it. The food, Sunset Ice-cream, & many items for sale was great. We watched the horse show, with Western & English riding. The showing of the gorgeous draft horses were fantastic. Afterward, we camped at the Evergreen Campgrounds on Paradise Rd. Penn Twp. This 150 Acres of beautiful Mt. use to belong to relative, Lee Kinley. He sold it in 1987. I met his sister Erma, and brother Wilber & wife who have permanent homes there. Justin, we found the graves of my g.g.g. grandparents, Daniel & Jane (Shannon) Kennelley, also their daughters', Doubalina, & Hannah who was married to Charles Miller next to them; also B.F. Coates who was married to their daughter Mariah, and some of the Breons in the Spring Mills Cemetery. We also toured the awesome Penns Caves that my father & grandparents use to tell me stories about when the family settled there in early 1800's and there were still Indians living there. Do you have any info on a Harold Kennelley/Kinley who was born & raised in the Spring Mills, or Gregg Twp. area. He was lost in a downed plane in W.W.II? I believe he was a gunner on a B 24??. His body was never found. At the time his mother was a widow. I'd like to know if there are any other family members living there. Thanks for listening and any info will be appreciated. Justin, I want to thank you for doing the beautiful work on Jane's tombstone which had fallen over & was broken. I don't know how you fixed it, but I along with many family members know what a big heart you have in doing all that you do, behind the scenes. God bless you for your many kindness'. I was in hopes that I would be able to call & meet with you, but time ran out. There was a Houser that had something of an Arcade at the Fair. Any relation? I'm so proud to say my people came from beautiful Centre County, "God's Country," where the folks are the friendliest. Would be happy to do lookups in Erie County for anyone. Dorothy (Kennelley/Kinley) Cote

    2. Joyce, I have misplaced your e-mail address but I wanted you to know I got the copies you sent me and they were just what I needed. Once again thank you for your hard work. I hope everyone on this list knows that Joyce runs the research library in Bellefonte and is very helpfull. I hope everyone who benefits from this wonderfull library makes a nice contribution periodically. Sorry Justin, you can scold me for abusing your list but I was very impressed by the library upon my visit there. Cente county is unique in having all the great resources it as for our Genealogical research, that includes Justin too. 2. Hi List, Mom says to tell you that Linda is correct in her e-mail, but that tombstone makers weren't always careful about grammar, and PA Germans often took the frugal approach inscribing as few words as possible. The idea of the list of common words is to be able to pick your way through the general information on the stone. Laura Mason

    1. [PACENTRE] German translations
    2. Linda S. Matthews
    3. Two comments regarding the list which provided common tombstone related translations from German: All German nouns are preceded by one of three definite articles denoting gender of the noun and these are declined just as the nouns are declined: DER, DIE, and DAS (masculine, feminine, and neuter). The articles have no relation to the gender of a living being. For example a girl is "Das Maedchen." The German word for daughter is "die Tochter." Linda

    2. Chuck Bush
    3. Hello, Justin asked me to post to the list concerning our most recent project. We have just finished converting Linn's History to a 100% searchable digital CD-Rom. In this format, searches are near instantaneous, you will find every single occurance of the word or phrase that is searched. The CD can be searched in other modes such as word stemming mode. This is handy for those names that can be spelled "100 ways". If you were seaching for Emenhiser for example you could do a word stem search for Emen or Eman or Immen, I think you get the point. You may also search for words that sound alike. Once again using Emenehiser as the example, you could get hits on Immenhiser, emenhiser, Emanhizer, ect. Everything is in image plus hidden text format, as are all of our cd-roms. This means that while you are looking at a exact digital image (think of it as a digital photocopy) there is text laying just behind it. This not only allows for the thorough indexing which makes the search feature work, but it also allows everything to be copy and pasted right into your favorite genealogy program. These describe just a few of the reasons that our E-Books on CD-Rom a welcome edition to anybodies genealogical library. For more information, samples, or to place your order please visit our website: http://www.bushbooks.com regards, Chuck Bush

    2. Sue, If you are interested in knowing this one additional tidbit of info -- Barbara (Waltenberger) Mark was the daughter of my gt-gt-gt-gt-gt-g'parents, George and Susanna (Weiss) Waltenberger. WALTENBERGER seems to be the correct spelling. I have very little info on Geo. & Susanna, but do know that they were married at Stone Arabia, Palatine Twp, Montgomery Co, NY, 21 Apr 1768. I have no further ancestry on either of them. Fred Houts, Brooklyn Center MN
