from the Nampa, ID Press-Tribune Caldwell Cemetery Desecrated Team will help cleanup 09/05/01 By Sam Bass CALDWELL Members of the Vallivue varsity soccer team will try to undo damage to gravestones at Canyon Hill Cemetery wrecked by vandals over the weekend. The vandals tipped over about 50 headstones late Sunday or early Monday, cemetery sexton Curt Doty said Tuesday. Doty was angry about the thoughtless damage and the effect it would have on loved ones of those buried at the cemetery. Doty said he's worried that sooner or later one of the headstones some weigh up to a ton will fall over on someone and seriously injure or kill them. Lisa Gabiola's family was visiting a loved one's grave Monday when they discovered the vandalism. "It was really heartbreaking," she said. "It looked like a tornado had hit." Some monuments may have been permanently damaged. Gabiola said she saw an elderly man who appeared heartbroken over his wife's grave. This afternoon instead of practice, the Vallivue Varsity Soccer team will help reset the headstones, Coach Tom Baker said. Baker has been telling his teams for years to be involved in more than just soccer, Baker said. Lisa Gabiola's son, Brennan, is on the team. After his mother called to tell Brennan about it, he urged the team to help. They agreed that it was the right thing to do. "What an awful thing," Baker said, referring to the vandalism. "It's unfortunate most kids do good things without notoriety." It's great the kids are willing to help, Doty said. "Maybe they'll tell others how stupid it is to knock over a dead person's headstone." The weekend damage is estimated to cost $1,000 for repairs, not counting manpower and time. Caldwell Police Capt. Gary Maybon said he had not seen the officer's report and could not comment on the investigation.
I lost track of who wrote the above, but Mom says to tell you that some of her ancestors (Bechtol) who lived in Rebersburg also went to Indiana in the 1800s according to family history. Apparently Indiana was a frequent destination for Miles Township people. Laura Mason
Hi Laura and list, Some of my Centre County ancestors (Wolfarth/Wohlford/Kremer) migrated from Miles township to Wayne County, Ohio in the early 1830's. ======= ~~~ Pam -----Original Message----- From: Jfmdbmlam@aol.com Date: Wednesday, September 05, 2001 8:13 AM Subject: [PACENTRE] Rebersburg to Indiana >I lost track of who wrote the above, but Mom says to tell you that some of >her ancestors (Bechtol) who lived in Rebersburg also went to Indiana in the >1800s according to family history. I have a photo with 22 adults and 6 children in it. It was made with one of the rotating cameras that allowed a group of people to be spread out. It is torn into 3 pieces and unfortunately they breaks occur where there is writing on the picture. On the left side it says Photo (By) Brion (m) HALL Pa. on the right side of the picture it says ASC (E) NSION CLUB A()T R. BENNISONS 1920 The brackets show the location of the tears. I think the picture was taken in Centre County. I wonder if perhaps someone would recognize some aspect of the description. Best regards, Walt in Colorado
I am looking for anyone researching the Charlton's in Centre County. Specifically a William Charlton who married Sarah ? They had a son, John Charlton in 1812 who moved to Stark County, OH and married Mary Ann Gibson. If anyone has any info on this family, I would be much obliged to hear from you. Pat, An addition to Fred's comments: I have this note in my database under Anna S. CORMAN, b 8 Jan 1790, Lebanon Twp, Lancaster Co, PA (which became Lebanon Co, PA in 1813): "It is possible that she was married to Wilhelm Lang, as her parents, George and Christina Corman, sponsored the baptisms of many children of one Wilhelm and Anna Lang at the Salem Lutheran Church in Aaronsburg, Centre Co., PA." The source of this note is unknown to me but it may well be from the KORMAN GENEALOGY published in 1916. Lindeman Pierce KORMAN was a s/o Daniel and Rebecca (Beck) KORMAN. Fred and list, Thanks for your input. Yes, I do use PAF version 5, and I like it well. There is supposed to be an updated version of the COMPANION for PAF 5, although I have not as of yet looked into that. After a very brief trip to Philipsburg this summer I discovered who my husbands great grandparents were. John(Jack) and Jennie Lythgow Morris are buried in the Philipsburg cemetery. I do know they had two daughters, Mae Rebecca and Pearl. Mae Rebecca married Robert Mc Clement. Pearl married Arthur Johnson. If anyone has any information on this family I would appreciate any help I can get. I was always told that Morrisdale was named after the Morris family, but can't find a connection. A gentleman at the cemetery told me there were lots of other Morris's buried there, but since I wasn't ever sure if John and Jennie were related at the time I didn't get any of the info. Thanking you in advance for any help. Lue Mc Clement West Texas

Referring back to my previous e-mail re: PERSONAL ANCESTRAL FILE. I hope I wasn't out of line, because I do know that "commercial" items are not be advertised or sold through this list. Since PAF is FREE, I don't consider it such. If I was out of line, I'm sorry. I would be interested in hearing from other users of the most recent version of PAF especially as to the printing of reports. I use PAF4 along with COMPANION software that prints one fabulous, easily-done "Register Report." I don't want to do without this particular report capability so that is why I haven't yet converted to the most recent PAF version. If someone knows as to similar compatability with reports on the newest version of PAF, I'd like to hear from them re: same. Thanks! Fred Houts, Brooklyn Center MN
I use PAF (Personal Ancestral File) developed by the Mormon church. It works beautifully, although I confess, I am still not converted to the most recent version of same. IT IS FREE. Just download it. Into genealogy as the Mormon church is -- you can be sure that whatever they develop has GOT TO BE GOOD. (I'm not Mormon, by the way.) I should never speak for others on this matter, but know that Justin Houser uses the most recent version of it and I THINK he likes it. Justin, speak up. Fred Houts, Brooklyn Center MN

Dear Lists, My husband has recently downloaded "Legacy" from the internet to try with his family's information. We understand that there is a newer version of "Legacy". What improvements have been made? Does anyone have an opinion about these programs? Is there a better one for a PC? I have a Mac and use "Reunion for Mac". So far, I have been very happy with it. Is there any better one for me? Before we spend too much, we sure would like to know. -- Carol Courter Updegraff PO Box 222 Glennallen, AK 99588-0222 cupdegraff@cvinternet.net
