Carol, Before 1853 Spring Township included all of Benner Township and part of what is now College Township. The burial sites around in 1841 were: Union Cemetery in Bellefonte (most folks from the region were buried here) St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Bellefonte Purdue Family Cemetery (now in Benner Twp.) Larimer Family Cemetery (believed to have been destroyed) Rearick Family Cemetery (believed to have been destroyed) An old cemetery in Hunters Park (no longer extant) Axemann Cemetery (no longer extant) In the case of the above cemeteries I know the locations of all of them. Gravestone inscriptions and limited records for Union and St. John's exist. Purdue has gravestone inscriptions recorded. I have no record of the others, save from an article in 1893 which listed the burials in the cemetery at Hunters Park. I am looking for the any cemeteries that are located in Spring/Spring Twp. Specifically looking for the burial of John Woodard (1760-1841) and Lucy Washburn Woodard (1768-1841). Their children were John, Jr., Lucy (m. Wilbur Baldwin); and Polly (m. Charles Sergeant). Carol

If you're looking for a town named Centre, Mohrville PA (I believe it's in the Reading area) was apparently known as Centre at some point in time. FYI I used tax records in Bellefonte at the public library for Bald Eagle Twp. Their tax records for the areas of Clinton Co. that were once in Centre end in 1839 when Clinton founded. Christy, Could this be Bruce Henry Smith's second wife? Her obituary in the CENTRE DAILY TIMES of 21 Sep 2001 reads: "Eleanor S. Smith, 94, of Bellefonte died Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2001, at Centre Crest nursing home in Bellefonte. Born March 26, 1907, in Bellefonte, she was a daughter of the late James and Catherine Rohrbaugh Mitchell. She married Percy B. Spicer, who preceded her in death. She then married Bruce Henry Smith, who died April 23, 1972. She attended St. John's Catholic Church School in Bellefonte. She was a former member of the auxiliary of the Bellefonte Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1600. She retired from Penn State and for several years following her retirement, worked at Centre Crest nursing home in Bellefonte. She belonged to Good Shepherd Catholic Church in State College. She is survived by by two daughters, Patricia Z. Gearhart and Violet M. Smith, both of State College; 14 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Johann J. Meek; a son, Gerald J. Spicer, five sisters and three brothers. She was the last of her generation. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. Saturday at Wetzler Funeral Home, 206 N. Spring St., Bellefonte. The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Philip M. Bender officiating. Burial will be in Centre Hall Reformed and Lutheran Cemetery in Centre Hall. Memorial contributions may be made to Good Shepherd Catholic Church, 867 Gray's Woods Boulevard, State College, PA 16801." Info I have indicates that Bruce Henry Smith, her husband, was a son of Bruce H. SMITH and a Miss MEYERS. Eleanor is kin to me through her mother and her first husband, Percy Boyd SPICER (1907-1980), whom she divorced before marrying Bruce Smith in 1963. Could he have been previously married with children of his own? You may well want to contact Patricia Z. (Mrs. Harry) Gephart, and Violet M. (Mrs. Clayton) Smith, the daughters of Percy and Eleanor. They may know something of this. Cornelia, Spring Township, Centre Co., still exists, although it is smaller now than it was in 1834. I am not aware of very many tax records that survive for Spring Twp. for that period, most having been "borrowed" by an attorney many years ago and never returned. Where were you able to locate this valuable resource? In 1834 Spring Township included what is now Benner and portions of College Township. If you can find Bellefonte on a map, Spring Township is a near-rectangle that surrounds it. When it included those other townships, it extended westward double the length it now has. White Twp., Cambria Co. still exists as far as I know, but I'm not familiar enough with the geography of that reason to give specifics. Hi everyone! I'm new to this list, so I thought I'd introduce myself. (Some on this list may have already seen queries from me). My name is Christy. My husband, Van, was raised in Bellefonte, PA (Centre Co.). His mother died when he was 5 years old, so he never knew her family. That's why I've started my geneology research with his mom. His mom's name was Iva Mae SMITH (b 10 Aug 1937, d Jan 1970). From Iva's SS-5, I know that her address at that time was 112 E Logan in Bellefonte Her parents were Evelyn E. BOTTORF (or spelled BUTTORFF) and Bruce Henry SMITH. My first goal is to find out if Iva has any living siblings, because they would be my husband's aunt/uncle. I've been contacted by a couple of people regarding an Evelyn BUTTORFF married to a Bruce SMITH, with 3 children named Sissy, Sonny, and Ann. I'm in the process of trying to confirm if this is the family I'm looking for - I think "Sissy" is Iva. If so, I'd really like to contact Sonny or Ann. I'd appreciate any inf! ormation, hints, and/or tips from anyone. And if anyone else is researching the BOTTORF/BUTTORFF family, please let me know. Lastly, I live near Oklahoma City, and I have family all over Oklahoma, so if anyone needs any research done in Oklahoma, please let me know. Thanks so much! I find them on page 95 of "Von Nuett / Von Neida / Von Nida / Vonada - From Germany to America" (1995) by Nora Taylor, Evelyn McMillion and Sandra Tremain (3 sisters). I further show that Christina Vonada was born 10 Mar 1803 and baptized at Aaronsburg 28 Aug 1803. I only show one child born to Samuel and Christina (though there may have been others). The one that I show is John Adam Weaver/Weber (1824-1900) who m. Maria Shoemaker. I, further, show just one child for John Adam and Maria as well (though, again, there may have been others): Jacob Franklin Weaver, born 27 Jun 1847 Penn Twp, Centre Co., died 4 Aug 1923 Walker Twp., Centre Co., PA, who m. Catharine Minnich (1843-1904). These people appear to NOT be my blood relatives. Their presence in my database seems to be only coincidental (probably through entering Vonada data as I have a lot of Vonada kin -- though, again, no blood-line Vonada ancestry either). I'm a new member to the list. Looking for information or connections to the OLDHAM family who came from England and settled in Osceola Mills, PA after 1883. Children included Samuel, George, John, Herbert, and Albert. Related surnames: SIMMS, STINE, APEL, LOVE, SEABOLT, LEARD, WILSON, and GREEN. Pennsylvania locations: Altoona, Colver, Confluence, Cresson, Ebensburg, Ernest, Osceola Mills, New Kensington, and Pittsburgh vicinity. I cannot prove it, but believe this family may be connected to the following (all born in England) who came to America on the ship RMS City of Rome to New York 26 June 1882: George Oldham, 41; Hester Oldham, 10; Sam Oldham, 8; Herbert Oldham, 7; and Albert Oldham, 60.
