Does anyone on this list have the capability to do a Neff Funeral Home record lookup? Pages 18 and 37 show a Thomas Mann and Mrs. Thos Mann and I would be interested in the details of these records. Is there anyone on the list who can help me with this? Sarah Ann Fredericks (b. 22 Sep 1815; d. 19 Dec. 1902) married Gideon Wilson SMITH in Bald Eagle. I am trying to find out who Gideon Wilson SMITH's father was. He was a grandson of my ancestor Gideon SMITH (1752-1841). The published Fredericks genealogy lists all 17 of Gideon and Sarah's children but does not give any information about Gideon Wilson SMITH. Thanks! Nancy Neuman

I think the militia was organized before a regular army for the Rev. War. I don't think anyone would argue that those who served in the militia were any less involved in the Rev. War than the regular army. My ancestor was in the militia and I noticed he seemed to serve in 2 month stints. A friend reminded me that most people were farmers and so the military had to let people tend the farm from time to time. I have used the PA Archives in the public library. There are pages of Rev. War muster rolls in the Fifth Series and a list of pensioners in the Third Series. My ancestor Gideon SMITH was in the militia. My research into his life was helped immensely by getting his pension application. Pensions weren't available until the 1830s so it's possible an ancestor who was in the war didn't live long enough to apply. As it was his was challenged on the basis his signature was fake...the county officials explained that he was OLD and had paralysis by then...and finally he got his pension. Chances are a lot of "relatives" tried to get pensions after their family member was long gone. Fred Clarke wrote: ........Being a member may not mean the person actually saw active duty or faught in any campaigns. Does just being in the Militia "count" as being a "Soldier in the Revolutionary War".......... I cannot answer Fred's question with any certainty - but I think land was offered to any one who assisted with the war effort. On the highway west of Pine Grove Mills is a DAR marker on the highway which I believe refers to my ancestor, George MEEK, another ancestor John GLENN and _______ Borland (to whom I am not related - so far as I know). George MEEK is the one I referred to in my previous post. I think, if I remember correctly, the marker refers to the three men as Revolutionary Soldiers. I don't have my notes available so I cannot be sure. George MEEK did hold the rank of Private, so I would think that would refer to a soldier. Perhaps someone who knows more than I do can be more positive about this. hi, I'm struggling to find out more about George Weyrauch/Wyrough/Warrick who appears in the 1840 census for Spring twp thus George Warrick --1--1-------||23---1-- I know only two other things about him. he was in Spring twp in 1834 per tax record, and he isn't in Centre Co. in 1850 (unless he's buried there) are there early marriage records for Centre Co., and would sks go check for George in them, circa 1820-1830? thanks for any help finding more on this man and his family. Mary Ann's question brings up another. My ancestors are also listed as being in a militia during the Revolutionary war. I have a feeling Militias were much like our National Guard. Being a member may not mean the person actually saw active duty or faught in any campaigns. Does just being in the Militia "count" as being a "Soldier in the Revolutionary War". I used Genealogy Research Associates (GRA) which is on line to order my ancestor's Rev War pension file. You have to pay them a fee but they do all the work. So one more idea for you today! A few years ago, my application for my 5th gr grandfather's revolutionary war record was returned from the National Archives saying they had no record of his service. But all was not lost. I found it at the Pennsylvania Archives in Harrisburg - he served as PA Volunteer during Revolutionary War. His service was part of a militia which was not recorded in national records. Hello This came from another list, which thought everyone might like to know. (snip) > Have you mailed a records request to the National Archives and Records Administration in the last few months? If you haven't received a response yet, don't wait by the mailbox. Anthrax threats closed the archives' Washington, DC, mailroom in late October, and it hasn't re-opened yet. Until it does, "no completed orders are being mailed to customers," according to a recent NARA statement. Those orders include all NATF 81-86 requests for passenger arrival and census records, Eastern Cherokee applications, land records, pension applications and military service records. Orders addressed to NARA's College Park, Md., mailroom were not affected by the anthrax threats. Bet everyone will have a very long wait. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gaylene Kerr Banister" <jlbanister@earthlink.net> To: <PACENTRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, December 13, 2001 9:52 PM Subject: Re: [PACENTRE] Need Help > James Curry wrote: > > > > Hi listers I need to send for a Revolutionary War Pension file and I don't know how or where! Concerning NARA pension forms, we sent a request in August of this year for some Civil War records and got the requested documents about 4 days ago. It was stamped with a date late in October as the day it was processed at NARA. We considered that the delay in mail delivery due to 9/11 might have slowed it down. However, another time a couple years ago we waited for about 6 months or more for a reply. No problem. A reply will come. Think what a surprise it will be, especially if its been so long you forgot you sent for it!!! -- Carol Courter Updegraff PO Box 222 Glennallen, AK 99588-0222 cupdegraff@cvinternet.net

Once you receive the form, fill it out as completely as you can and return it to NARA. Instructions are included with the form. Hi there! Is there anyone out there who is able and willing to do an obituary look-up for me in the Centre Democrat newspaper? Her name was Iva (Smith) Williams, and her obituary should be in the newspaper on 2 Feb 1972. I'd really like to get an actual copy of it, if someone could copy and/or scan it and send it to me.
