Hi Liz, My grandfather's brother (Harry E. Bechtol) was married to Mary A. Smith on January 16, 1908. Mary's sister Maude was listed as Mrs. Maude Zettle of Farmer's Mills in Mary's obituary dated June 12, 1919. Maude's husband's name wasn't recorded in the obit. That's the only Zettle I have, and I haven't researched the line since it isn't my direct line. Diana Mason

Dear List: Does anyone on the list know Blanche Dickson (Boalsburg, PA), sister to LeRoy Evey. LeRoy Evey's grandparents were Henry Twitmyer (1842-1914) and Elmira M. Brooks (1847-1936). Apparently Joanna Decker, daughter of Nancy Moriah Twitmyer(1861- 1916) and niece to Henry Twitmyer compiled a history of the Twitmyers. She apparently gave it to Ms. Blanche Dickson. I have written to Ms. Dickson once (no reply) and although I was also given her telephone number, I am loathe to disturb her. Does anyone know her and might someone be able to inquire about this history? Sincerely and hopefully, Sara Alexandria, VA
Is it possible that the Kepharts and Gepharts of Centre County are the same clan? Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! Sara Sanders-Buell Alexandria, VA
BINGO! Linda, have been trying to fit that piece of the puzzle for awhile now and your info fits perfectly <Katy is the daughter of Stephen SMITH and Maria TROUP/STROUP/STRAUB> ! Now let's see how the relationships go... Susan KEPHART (b 1841 and daughter of Andrew and Catherine [WEISER] KEPHART) married John J. CODER (b 1837). They had a daughter, Mary Catherine CODER (b 1864) who married Martin Hoover BLOOM (b 1848). Martin Hoover BLOOM was my 1st cousin 4x removed, and Martin's father, Abraham High BLOOM (b 1813) was my 3rd great granduncle as well as 1st cousin 5x removed. Now, Abraham's parents, John BLOOM (b 1786); and Susannah HIGH (b 1788) were my 4th great grandparents as well as my 4th great granduncle and aunt (yep, double-related to both of them as I descend through 2 children of William and Mary Ann [METTLER] BLOOM). Now that everyone's totally confused, I think it's safe to say that Linda and I are not couins! Jacquelyn, I've been trying to piece together my Smith cousins. I've got a 4th great-grandaunt named Maria Catherine (Katy) SMITH b. 17 Sep 1776 in Centre Co. PA, died 15 Sep 1857 in Decatur Township, Clearfield Co. PA, who married Henry KEPHART on 10 Sep 1797 in Centre Co. PA. That sounds an awful lot like your Catherine B. Our family records also have the name as CEPHART. Katy is the daughter of Stephen SMITH and Maria TROUP/STROUP/STRAUB who died in Potter Township, Centre Co. PA in 1803 and 1807. She's the oldest sister of my 4th great-grandfather Daniel SMITH who married Mary Ann LUSHER and ended up in Venango Co. PA. Hope that helps some. I didn't have the names of any children, so thanks for that information. Does this make us cousins? Linda ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jacquelyn E. My 2nd great grandfather, Everhart Snyder appears in Kylertown, Clearfield Co. on Oct.29,1861 when he enlists in Co. F of the 2nd PA Cavalry, but where did he come from? In his Civil War Pension papers he claims to have been born in Germany July 1, 1842 and on the 1900 Census they state that he's been here for 50 yrs. which would make him 8 when he arrived about 1850. I, and quite a few other decendents that I know of who have researched him, have never been able to find him before the day he enlists. On Aug. 15, 1867 he is married by a Andy Hunter, Esq. in Kylertown, PA to Margaret Peters. This is also from his civil war papers and is listed in the "Marriages in Clearfield Co." book at the historical society. I was told that most of the dates in that book were compiled from newspaper articles but I couldn't find one. He dies in West Decatur, Boggs, Twsp. Clfd. Co. on Mar. 10, 1913. I seem to have exhaused all leads in Clfd. and was thinking that since they were always so close to the Centre Co. border maybe I could find some info. there. When they were filling out the pension requests they used a Philipsburg Dr. so maybe they had some ties there? I also have not found an obit for him, nor found him on the 1860 Cleafield census the year before he enlists. I would appreciate it if someone could do a lookup of these dates in the Philipsburg paper and check the 1860 census for me. I'm thinking any variation of the name Snyder (Schneider, Snider) Since he could only make "his mark" on the papers the army may have spelled it Snyder and it stuck. On his death certificate, Margaret gives the names and birthplace of his parents as unknown. Any help or suggestions that you could give me would be appreciated. Would anyone have a record of the death of a man named Strayer around 1871, and possibly as early as 1867, in Centre County? Thanks much! Sue Renkert Fairbanks, Alaska 43 degrees ABOVE zero!
Sue, They may have been buried in the old Lutheran and Reformed Cemetery at Rebersburg. The old historians always said most of the early settlers were buried there with unmarked flat stones over their graves, which long ago disappeared. There are still quite a number of stones with ancient dates on them, however, some of which were probably erected at a later date, but some of the fieldstones look original. Would anyone be searching the Buchtel Family. Looking for burial place of Maria Buchtel who married Abraham Kreamer. Maria d. 20 Sep 1810, possibility in Centre Co. Abraham came to Stark Co Ohio, and died around 1834. Abraham may have remarried. Can anyone help. Thanks Sue
Cornelia, Merry Christmas! I don't know if this information will be helpful to you or not, but I found a marriage of a George Worrick to Caroline White 10/19/1831. In the 1850 census for Logan Twp., Clinton Co. there is an Abraham Worrick, 31, with John, 82, Margaret, 80, and Mary 41. It appears that they were living next door to John Worrick, 35, Elizabeth, 37, Samuel M., 16, John, 14, Jeremiah, 12, Benjamin J., 9, Margaret J., 4 and Mary Castrator, 40. A Margaret Worick is buried in the Union Cemetery at Tylersville, Clinton Co. She died 10/5/1893, age 75Y, and was the wife of Abraham. In the Methodist Episcopal Church, Lamar Twp., Clinton Co., there is a William, s/o George and G. Worrick, d. 3/8/1863, aged 27. I wonder if that should be s/o George and C. Worrick? I don't know if Weirick is a variant of your name, but a George Weirick b. 7/15/1819 d. 3/14/1850 married Mary Meyer and they had: Pauline, Thomas George, Henry Edward and Zachariah T. This family is related to me. This George is buried at Rebersburg, Centre Co. I hope this helps. in 1840 Spring twp, Centre Co., George Warick, one boy 10-15, one man 30-40, 2 girls under 5, 3 girls 5-10, one woman 30-40. (George born 1800-1810) has anyone seen anything about this man? he is the George Wyrough listed in the 1834 tax record for Spring twp along with my Johannes Weyrauch/John Wyrough. I can find nothing further regarding him or his children. the 1840 census states he has 6 children born between 1825 and 1840. 1 son and 5 daughters. my hypothesis is that George is John's child, perhaps his eldest (John b. abt. 1785, George born 1800-1810). I also hypothisise that if George is John's son then George married in the old country and had at least one child born in the old country. (John came to America in 1831, George's son was born before 1830) it is also possible that George came before John. I cannot find a naturalization record for George, if one exists, in Centre due to the inability to use soundexing in the naturalization index.
Interested in the ancestors/siblings of Daniel A. Kephart, born 1840, possibly in Germany, died on 12/16/1922. I have his brothers as being Andy and John. Daniel married Susannah Walker. Curious if he's tied in to the other Kepharts who emigrated earlier. Doug Bierly St. Louis, MO
Leah, What time frame are you talking about? I just realized that one of my Smith ancestors had a sister Mary who married a George Kephart (Cephart?). This would have been in the early 1800s in Centre Co. Another sister married a Henry Kephart in 1797. Do you think that Mary Elizabeth Schmidt might be the same as my Mary Smith? We might be looking at the same families. I haven't tried to trace the Kepharts, but they'd be my cousins too.
