    3. Kevin, I have letters from a Jacob Sigmund (of Clinton County) who served in the PA 7th Cavalry, 80th Rgt, in the Civil War, alsong with my great-grandfather, Hiram W. Brilhart, who was from Centre County. Jake Sigmund was killed in action, April 2, 1865, at Selma, Alabama. I have a small photo of him. Let me know if you find a connection to this Jacob Sigmund. I've been a resident of Dayton ever since, but all of my relatives are from Lycoming county. My direct ancestor Christian August Scholderer, that came from Germany in 1832 and settled in Centre County. He and his wife (Anna Lutscher) of about a year had their first two children born in Centre County (Elizabeth Sholder and Christian Sholder). They then moved to Lycoming county sometime after their son Christian was born (31 Jan 1835) and their next child Samuel born in 1837. I have recently found documents that indicate Christian also traveled with his mother (Christina Margareta former wife of Johann Jacob Scholderer, widow nee Kaiser) and step-father (Johann Jacob Sigmund) to this country presumably to join his half-brother (Samuel Friedrich Sigmund) who came to this country in 1819. 3. Gloria, I must say, we are running in the same circles. Please see the information that I have on Sigmund below: Johann Jacob Sigmund (born 12 Nov. 1776 in Immendingen, Wurttemberg) m. 26 Sep 1797 to Christiane Friedrike Gohl who died 14 May 1816. One child Samuel Friedrich Sigmund born 18 Feb 1798 went on 5 July 1819 to North Amerika. Does your reference show the husband? I have also thought that mother Christina and Johann Jacob Sigmund, could be buried in Wildwood, only because last time I was there, I noticed a few unknown names in the Christian August Scholderer (Sholder) plot. Never wrote them down, I've learned a valuable lesson today. According to a family narrative that was discovered, my ancestor is James Riddle Watson, a "pioneer farmer" of Centre County who settled in Centre County by 1789. He was a Scots-Irish Presbyterian who came from Scotland, according to the narrative, but I believe he emigrated from Ireland. His son Robert Lewis Watson married Matilda Williams and they were the parents of James Watson, a farmer in Centre County. James married Elizabeth Hess, daughter of Lewis Hess and Elizabeth Shirck. They were the parents of my great-grandfather Robert Lewis Watson who moved away from the area. My grandfather, father and brother are all named Robert Lewis Watson. According to accounts I have found, the original James Watson had the following children: John Thomas William James Lot Ann aka Nancy (Irvin) Margaret (Johnston) Hannah (Campbell) Robert Joseph Elizabeth Riddle Ellen aka Eleanor or Nelly (Pennington) Hattie According to the information I have, Robert, Joseph, Elizabeth, Ellen and Hattie were born to a second wife, Agnes. I am interested in any and all information about the Watson, Williams, Hess and Shirck families as well as the family of Agnes. I have found information about James' children, William, Lot, Ann, and Ellen on the internet, but do not have information about the other siblings. I am also interested in the following: Family narrative indicates that James' middle name was Riddle, but I haven't found that anywhere else.Is this accurate? Family narrative (James' grandson) says that he came to Penn's Valley in 1765. Is there any information about the date that he settled in the area? Is there any information about James Watson's life before he came to Centre County and his life in Centre County? Who inherited his farm and is a house still standing? Where was James buried? Are there any descendants of James Watson who received this email? This story and the history of Centre County have become very alive for me. I hope to travel to Bellefonte in the spring and do some research in the library and find the burial sites of these ancestors. I am a novice at genealogical research and would appreciate the help of the experts. 1. Re: [PACENTRE] Black Oak Mapper
    2. Fred, Yes, it measures in perches unless you tell it otherwise. A perch is sometimes called a rod and, in southern states, a chain -- 16-1/2 feet. You can also set it for feet; it measures in degrees, minutes, etc. All very convenient. Alas, the thing has been discontinued. If you send me a copy of your deed with a self-addressed stamped envelope, I will return to you a print-out map of the property as this thing draws it, when I get around to it. How about that? 3. URGENT REQUEST!: Now that we are over the holidays, This years is our 350th Anniversary of the landing of the Swartwout family in North America. The name has many variations such as Swarthout, Swartout, Swartwood, Swathwood, Swarthwood etc. We need help in gather lines, pictures, articles, wills, what ever you have stashed in your attic. We would really appreciated it if you shared with us what you had, there a literally thousands of us here looking for our roots, looking for connections. For our 350th Anniversary we need to updated our list of folks out there that are descendants somewhere along the line of any of those variations. We also have a family newsletter that cost only $5.00 per year, a real bargain. Just send it your mailing address. Every day I get e-mail asking me for help. Up here in Canada, there were two brothers that had huge families, all the remains of their descendants are the female sides. All the male went back to the States. I'm am the maintainer of "The Updated Swartwout Chronicles" People submit their lines-ged-coms etc. and I just drop them into the data base. It is everyone's database. Without it you'd have to get the deed and draw it out by hand or using a program such as Black Oak Mapper, which I just happen to have. <grin> Now, using subsequent deeds or the county tax maps you should be able to identify this parcel in the present-day and be able to locate it. 3. I should clarify that the document I mentioned with land owned by John Grove (his dates, by the way, are 3/31/1797 to 9/15/1860) is not really a map, but a piece of paper that shows coordinates and other land markings (i.e. beech tree, saw mill, Egg Hill, etc..) along with bordering land owners names. I don't know what the real name of this type of document is. I believe the Atlas that Justin mentioned is the Pomeroy one, yes? If so, I actually have an original copy that I use quite often. And I just put some more connections together and think that I have located the land that I was searching for on in this atlas! Many thanks for your offer, Fred. Does anyone know of a good on-line or paper map of this area? That is to say, a map showing detail of Upper and Lower George's Valley Roads and, in particular, Egg Hill. I have a map from the estate of my ggg granfather, John Grove, who owned several parcels of land. The estate is dated Jan 18, 1861. I would like to physical see this land. These parcels bordered property owned by the following names - if anyone is interested in copies, let me know. Parcel A: George Buchanan, George Arnold, Evans, James Duncan, Adam Sunday, John Falgeate Parcel B: W. Gentzel, JG? 1. [PACENTRE] photos for sale - Auction tonight/tomorrow DORMAN
    2. Stacey Falkner
    3. Hi, There are family photos, three really nice albums in excellent condition, some labeled for sale tonight and tomorrow at the Lewistown Auction House in Lewistown. I just discovered them today. One of the names in them I spotted was DORMAN. The others appear to be a lot of first names. The lady they belonged to was 91 years old when she passed away. She was Mrs. Crowe by marriage. She lived in Reedsville as I knew her. Her hubby was a school teacher in Reedsville/Milroy area back in the 1940's at least. Some of the photos were taken at a studio in Bellefonte. That is why I am posting it to this list. Sorry I don't have more info, or could not post this earlier, but I only just spotted them this afternoon. If anyone is interested or needs directions, you can reach someone at our business who can provide directions. (717)242-0788, or at (717)935-2940. The auction starts at 6p.m. tonight and 9:30a.m. tomorrow. I think, but am NOT sure, that the photos are on a Saturday table. Stacey Falkner Auction house is located in Lewistown rear of third street behind the United Fire COmpany building. Call for specifics. They are confusing to try and write. :0) --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free. Checked by AVG anti-virus system (http://www.grisoft.com).
