Forgive me for asking a non-genealogy question but does anyone know where I can report unsolicited "smut" mail? I couldn't find any references on the internet. Thanks, Arline

I have found at least 2, and possibly a third, record that are very helpful to me. The first one was the death of Mrs. Nathan Simcox who was nee Anna Maria Shearer, whose father, Jacob Shearer, was a sister of my gt-gt-gt-g'mother, Elizabeth (Shearer) Garbrick. They hailed originally from Codorus Twp, York Co, PA. The other record that was helpful to me was that of Clara Markle who was Clara Ellen (Gardner) Markle, widow of Leslie Emory Markle -- also kin to me through Garbrick connections. Then there is that "mysterious" record for a Lemuel Shearer. Can't help but think that he must belong to me Shearer kin also, but I don't yet know the connection. Thanks so much for sharing. Dear friends, I tried to send a document of some notes in a notebook containing a large number of deaths recorded by my grandmother, Anna Smith Courter, in the Blanchard, Centre County area, in 1891 to about 1905. This turned out to be such a massive document that I suspect many of you were unable to receive it, or it may have been garbled in the sending. If anyone wants to have any information concerning deaths in this era in Blanchard and that area, please e-mail me privately. I would be happy to mail the entire list to anyone who wants it. This transcription contains such names as Courter, Potts, DeHaas, Bechdel, Linn, Bumgardner, Long, Coder, Rothrock, Kunes and many others. In most cases there are death dates only. Some entries have short comments by Anna or additions by myself. I am sorry if I messed up anyone's e-mail. I didn't realize how large this message would be. -- Carol Courter Updegraff PO Box 222 Glennallen, AK 99588-0222 cupdegraff@cvinternet.net Locations I am researching include Lycoming, Clinton, Centre and Northumberland Counties in Pennsylvania. Among my aunt's possessions when she went to a nursing home a few years ago was a notebook written by my grandmother, Anna Smith Courter, who lived in Blanchard, Centre County. She wrote most, if not all, of the deaths, and a few births, in her notebook for a period of about 5 to 10 years. Perhaps some of these will be of interest. Names and dates are as she recorded them, except for the form of the date, which she wrote in long hand. Her comments are in quotes, mine are in parentheses. Potts Mrs I. B. A word of introduction: My research deals with various Meyer family descendants, based on Meyer, Henry, _Genealogy of the Meyer Family_, 1890. Henry lived in Rebersburg, and while he descended from a brother of my own great-great-great-grandfather, he did quite well with my own family line. Surnames of particular research inerest to me: Meyer - esp. of Boalsburg and State College area, but including some Meyer folks buried in Meyer Cemetery across PA Rt. 550 from the Buffalo Valley Run United Methodist Church. (I hope I have that church name right.) Also of Aaronsburg, Coburn, Millheim, etc. Fishburn - esp. of Bellefonte area; first of this family buried at Shiloh Lutheran Church cemetery Hoy - esp. of Bellefonte background a few family lines named Moyer - mostly descended from Freeburg, Snyder Co, families I would be grateful for all assistance and updating. Thank you. Karl E. Moyer Lancaster PA

The "Richard & Agnes Gummo" family lost at least 3 children in 1855..... probably in the Mill Hall, Clinton County area... at least that's where they were living in 1850, 1860 1870 & 1880.... I would guess the epidemic was all around the area.... Then again about 44 years later in Dec 1899 there was another typhoid epidemic in Beech Creek, Clinton County. The 1899 typhoid epidemic also killed my great-grandfather, Howard W. Bitner, in Blanchard. My grandmother and Howard's daughter, Maud Bitner (later Clark), also had it, lost all her hair but recovered. None of his grandchildren ever knew Howard. He is buried in the Christian Cemetery, directly across the road from the house he lived in. Thanks for the information, Justin. Little bits of information like this make our ancestors seem more alive to us. Sue, The town of Howard was besieged with an epidemic of what is believed to have been Typhoid during the year 1855. Many people died as a result of this terrible disease. I would not be surprised to learn it was elsewhere in the county. Our county newspaper files from January to November 1855 are sadly non-existent. Linn makes no mention of this epidemic. He does state that it was the year of the locusts; a hailstorm came on July 6th; July was a remarkably wet month. Other than that he is silent. My great-grandfather, Peter Brillhart, died in Aaronsburg, in 1855 at the age of 32. He died before 11-6-1855 and probably before 10-18-1855. Apparently his wife Mary died before him. (She was still alive in the 1850 census.) Does anyone know whether there was an epidemic of typhoid or some other disease in Centre County around this time? This young couple left young children behind, and most likely some sort of disease was a factor. Thanks for any ;ight anyone can shed on this. Sue Fairbanks, Alaska 1 below today

Of note, in Heckman Cemetery is a stone for: Benjamin F., son of Samuel & Lydia MOSER. No dates on the headstone but he is buried with three people who died in late February and early March 1858 so it is safe to assume he died then also. (All children; perhaps an epidemic). His age is given as 1 year, 2 months, and 15 days; thus born abt Dec 1856 if my assumption is correct. Lydia RIPKA is my relation (her mother having been a BREON) so I would be interested in sharing info on that particular descendancy if anyone has any. >From his headstone, in German, at Heckman Cemetery, we learn that "Philip Mosser was born 1783 and died June 21, 1835, in his 52nd year." The persons at Heckman are buried in the order of death, more or less. There are a number of empty spaces where there are no stones. Also many stones have been moved around to make the rows straight in order to mow. I found no stone for Philip's wife Catharine in the listings I have. I also have this info in my records: >From Salem Lutheran Church at Aaronsburg: -- Philip Moser & Catharine. Johannes, b 25 Nov 1814; bp 28 Nov 1814; sp Johannes Moser. -- Philip Moser & Catharine. Maria Barbara, b 26 Jul 1816; bp date not given; sponsor Maria Barbara Lidig. >From Penns Creek Lutheran Church in Gregg Twp.: -- Philip Moser & Catharine. Philip Timotheus, b 10 Nov 1828. -- Philip Moser & Catharine. Rachel, b 23 Jun 1830. I have these children listed for Samuel and Lydia (RIPKA) MOSER: 1. John Ripka MOSER (1846-1912) 2. Amanda MOSER (1851-1889) m. John KAUFFMAN 3. Benjamin F. MOSER (1856?-1858?) 4. Samuel Franklin MOSER (1862-1938) m. Caroline L. CONDO 5. Minnie MOSER There were probably others as well that I've not uncovered yet. I look forward to hearing from those connected with this line. Thanks Pat You have been most helpful. Would anyone have the cemetery listing for Heckman Cemetery in Gregg Twp. This is where Phillip Musser Jr is buried, so wondering if Catherine Kreamer Musser is buried there too. She probably died 1826/1827. Would there be any records of births or bap. for either of Phillip & Catherines daughters. I have the date of about 1808 for the Catherine Musser that married Reuben Geary. If I could get to Centre, would love to search this myself, but since I have no means of travel, can't get there. Thanks for all the help. Sue and list, I have Philip MUSSER Jr, born 1783, died either 1834 (Commemorative Bio. Rec, page 377) or 21 Jun 1835 (cemetery list). I have that he married first to Catherine KREAMER (no dates), daughter of Daniel. They had a son Samuel and two daughters (no names). Philip's second marriage was in November 1827, to Catherine REICHARD (c1786-1879), daughter of Joseph and Mary Reichard. Catherine Reichard had been married first to John STOVER (c1786-1824). She had several children by Stover. Philip and Catherine (Reichard) Musser had Dr. Philip T Musser and Rachel Musser who married John LORD. Philip Musser Jr was the son of Philip MUSSER (1757-1804) and Catherine SCHUCK (1759-1839). I do not have a death date or burial place for Catherine (Kreamer) Musser. Comm. Bio Rec page 343 says Reuben GEARY married Catherine Musser, daughter of Philip. I didn't realize she was one of the two unnamed daughters (above) of Philip and Catherine (Kreamer) Musser. Page 339 of CBR names the children of Reuben and Catherine (Musser) Geary--twins Samuel and Mary who married Andrew STOVER; Daniel; Sarah md Michael RISHEL; Philip dy; Catharine dy; Harriet md William BRAUCHT; Diana md Simon WOLF. Hope this helps.
