    2. This is a copy of the post I made to the Clinton County List : ------------------------------------------------------------- I've been following the discussion on this family. I have Jacob's sister ( Margaret) marrying a Conrad SINGER. The majority of this family is buried at the German Reformed Cemetery in Marsh Creek... I also have a different Margaret GLOSSNER ( d/o Sampson & Mary (Wensel) GLOSSNER marrying into my "Robb" family.... My question: is this "Sampson GLOSSNER " (1836-1866) a s/o Christian & Anna (Thiel) GLASSNER ? Or did Christian & Anna (Thiel) GLASSNER only have 2 children ? Any help on the GLASSNERS/GLOSSNERS would be appreciated as I can't tie in Sampson GLOSSNER to his parents... Sabrina Marie Robb Ocala, Florida

    3. Linda, The only thing I can find within the 1870-1880 time period is this (and this is throughout the Internet): 1865-73 Philadelphia, New York City, Baltimore, Memphis & Washington, DC: recurring epidemics of smallpox, cholera, typhus, typhoid, scarlet fever & yellow fever 1873-1875 North America & Europe - Influenza 1878 Memphis, TN - Yellow Fever 1878 New Orleans (last great epidemic) - Yellow Fever So for 1877-1878, the increased death rate could have been due to a localized outbreak/recurrence of one of the above diseases. Eyeopener: And that may very well explain why I can't find any information on the ancestry of my brickwall -- Alzada Rosencrans who was born in 1877! 1. Re: [PACENTRE] Williams, Hess and Shirck families
    2. As a descendant of the Schürch family (aka Shirck) and a historian of the family Association, I am most interested in your query. I believe your Lewis and Elizabeth (Shirck) Hess are the same people I have in my database as Lewis and Rebecca (Sherick) Hess, Rebecca being the daughter of Jacob and Mary Shirk/Sherick. Jacob was born in 1772 in Paradise Twp, York Co, PA and died in 1813 in Spring Twp, Centre Co, PA. I've not fully researched that descendancy as yet. I do know that Jacob is a grandson of Joseph Shirk, who is identified by the family Association as immigrant Code "C." There is much documentation on this family. In late July there will be a reunion of all the branches of the family in Lancaster County, PA. You (and other descendants) are most welcome to attend. It is very genealogy oriented. I'll be giving a talk on the central Pennsylvania branches of the family, so far as they are known. I'd be most interested in sharing info with you as it looks like we have a match. Although it is not yet proven, it is thought that immigrant "C" Joseph Shirk (1700-1770) was the son of an earlier Casper Schürch (born 1657 in Switzerland). If so, he may well be the brother of my direct ancestor, Casper Shirk (c1710-1770), making us some form of distant cousins. I look forward to hearing from you! > I would love to have information about the Williams, Hess or Shirck > families. > > My great-great-great grandmother was Matilda Williams born about 1803 in > Centre County. 1. [PACENTRE] Anna Smith Courter's notebook: Correction!!
    2. Carol Updegraff
    3. Dear lists, There is an apparent error in my Grandma's notebook, either hers, or mine in transcription. As soon as I find the original notebook, I'll know which one!! Mrs. Jacob Glossner is listed in the notebook as having died 16 May 1906. Actually, according to the records for the Baptist Cemetery in Blanchard, Jacob Glossner died on that date and his wife, Elizabeth, died 5 Apr 1912. This could be an error on part of the person doing the cemetery census as well. Does anyone have other sources for this apparent error? Death certificate or family Bible or some such, to make a confirmation of the correct date? Has anyone seen the actual dates on the tombstones in the Baptist Cemetery? Since I am dyslexic, maybe Grandma was, too!!!! =) -- Carol Courter Updegraff PO Box 222 Glennallen, AK 99588-0222 cupdegraff@cvinternet.net Locations I am researching include Lycoming, Clinton, Centre and Northumberland Counties in Pennsylvania. Names I am researching include Courter, Updegraff, Bitner, Smith, Johnson, Stull, Potts, Kunes, Chatham, Hulsizer, Wensel, DeHaas, Paulhamus, Bauder, Nearhood, Steinhelper, Hoppes, Marshall, Bechdel, and many more!!

    3. OOPS!!! The below statement of mine is in error in that the date of THIS typhoid incident is 1893 NOT 1899. I should always check on things before I just make a statement. The rest is correct, as far as I know. The 1899 typhoid epidemic also killed my great-grandfather, Howard W. Bitner, in Blanchard. My grandmother and Howard's daughter, Maud Bitner (later Clark), also had it, lost all her hair but recovered. None of his grandchildren ever knew Howard. He is buried in the Christian Cemetery, directly across the road from the house he lived in. Later his widow, Sarah "Frances" (nee Johnson) Bitner, married a cousin of Howard's, Alfred Bitner, who, along with Frances, is also buried in the Christian Cemetery. Thanks to a couple people for letting me know. I appreciate it!! -- Carol Courter Updegraff PO Box 222 Glennallen, AK 99588-0222 cupdegraff@cvinternet.net Locations I am researching include Lycoming, Clinton, Centre and Northumberland Counties in Pennsylvania. 3. Hi Arline, I think your best bet is complaining to your internet provider, or, the internet provider of the specific mail you don't like. My ISP, Earthlink has its Spaminator, but I still get 100s of junk mails a week. Use your "block sender" and "message rules" (Outlook) in your mail program to send repeaters to the trash automatically.
