    1. [PACENTRE] McBrides Gap in BENNER Twp, not College
    2. Fred, Yes it is -- I misspoke. It actually cuts through Benner Twp into Potter Twp. I just ran across the obituary of our aunt Eva the other day and thought you'd like to have it: Her obituary in the CENTRE DEMOCRAT of 2 Jul 1888 reads: "On the 9th inst., at her residence in Benner township, Centre county. Mrs. Eva McBride, whose husband has long since been called from the earth, departed this life at the ripe age of 82 years, 3 months and 6 days. This venerable christian mother in Israel, was baptized in infancy and received into the Lutheran church at an early age. She was a consistent member of the church of her choice and a regular attendant upon the public services up to the time of her disability. She was confined to her room and chair for several years. She bore her infirmity with christian patience and resignation. During her last illness though suffering much she bore her pain with the fortitude of the faithful. She was a kind mother and an affectionate wife, a sympathetic and helpful neighbor and friend. She leaves two children - a son and a daughter, to mourn her demise. What is their loss is her eternal gain. A mother has been called from her home on the earth to the regions of glory where all is sweet mirth. She was summoned to come where sorrow is unknown and gladly she went to her heavenly home. Dear children weep not for her who has been taken from you. She is resting, peacefully resting till all shall awaken." 3. Liz, I have a lot of information on Stovers, Groves and Longs. Before I dig into my information, however, let me refer you to a website: http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/Hills/8220 This is the most comprehensive genealogy I have seen of the Stover family - and includes many, many Centre Co. names. Review this site and then let me know where the gaps in your research are. I think this site will fill some of them. Joyce Diehl Sue Renkert wrote: > Jean??? Re: Bellefonte's poor house, I know I'm not going to be terribly helpful, but I can assure you there was one. Somewhere among my Garbrick kin I have a man with NOTES in my database indicating that he was employed at the poorhouse as a caretaker. I can remember some details, but can't tell you off the top of my head right now who he was, so consequently, cannot summon him up from my database. I recall a newspaper item from the DEMOCRATIC WATCHMAN newspaper around the 1890s telling of him having to go to Philadelphia for some ear surgery. Fred Houts, Brooklyn Center MN

    2. jwatson
    3. Does anyone have information or a connection to Alexander and Margaret (Watson) Johnston. Margaret born 1885 in Centre County, married Alexander Johnston in 1804. Alexander probably died before 1830. Margaret appears on the 1850 census in Harris Township with the following: Alexander, born @1812 William, born @ 1820 Sarah, born @ 1818 Elizabeth Lytle born @ 1823 (don't know if Elizabeth is a daughter) I assume there were other children as well not living at home. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
