    3. Hi, Jacquelyn No I am not related to the Hoys. Some of my Yearicks married Hoys however. I was just forwarding some info. and an inquiry from Mary Rogers who has a Hoy connection. There are Hoy researchers on the PACentre list however and you will probably get a response. On Sun, 31 Mar 2002 23:25:28 -0600 "Jacquelyn E. 3. Fred, Am confused... are you related to HOY? The reason am asking is because my mother is a HOYE descendant, but from the "southern branch" -- GA and MS. We can only trace back to James Catherel HOY(E) - b 02/18/1805 Madison Co., GA d 08/25/1885 Union, Newton Co., MS. We believe, however, that his father was William HOY, born in Scotland, stayed in PA for awhile, and then headed south to NC and GA. A number of years ago, my grandmother knew some HOYs that lived on the corner of Simms St and Ralston Rd in Arvada, on what was left of their farm. Am sure they're long deceased now. They were distantly related, but didn't seem interested in family history at that time. Best regards, Jacquelyn (Erhard) Bean jebean@ccape.net

I found Thomas & Jane's marriage record in 1835 in Howard Twp. ~ this is the area where I'm now checking for my HEWES/HUGHS/HUGHES line, and Thomas could be a son of Henry b. c. 1785 in Ireland and Martha Jane b. Pa.. (many of the same names run thru our family.) The 1850 Census in Howard Twp., shows Thomas Hughs family: Thomas HUGHS, age 39 male Occup: Farmer (All b. in Pa.) b. 1811 Nancy " age 29 female b. 1821 Tamson " 13 male b. 1837 Elnora " 10 female b. 1840 John " 8 male b. 1842 James " 6 male b. 1844 Harriett " 4 female b. 1846 William " 9/12 Mos. Male b. 1850 Rebecca RED 13 female The next family in the census is John MCCALMONT. I wonder if Jane died and Thomas remarried? I couldn't find a marriage record in my books for a Thomas & Nancy Hughs.. This looks like the same Elnora Hughs, though. Does anyone else on the list group have any info! Thanks! Jean

Printed in 1997. It states that it tabulates death records from "The Death Record Book 1 from 1893 -1903 and 2 from 1903 - 1905." There are a few loose pages at the beginning from an earlier volume which are included in the front of this book, They had to interpret hand written records, so there could be some transcription errors. 1. [PACENTRE] Centre County Easter Memory
    2. Hi again List, This Easter I am reminded of how special Easter was when I was a child in Millheim. In particular, I'm remembering one Easter when I was about five years old. My sister, brother and I awoke with great anticipation. The Easter Bunny always left us wonderful baskets full of candy eggs and chocolate bunnies. That Easter was no exception. There were the baskets with all the goodies we expected, each delicious piece nestled on a bed of green plastic grass. We were allowed one piece each before breakfast, and I always picked the biggest foil wrapped bunny in the basket. After breakfast my Dad brought in a huge cardboard box. We looked at it in puzzlement, and then, to our amazement, it cheeped! Dad put the box on the floor in the kitchen, and opened it. Imagine our excitement when he gently picked up three little colored chicks and placed them on the floor. My sister immediately picked up the pink chick, and my brother went for the blue one. My favorite was the purple one. Of course, we immediately named our new pets. The pink one promptly soiled my sister's nightgown, and was appropriately named Trouble. Mine was named Sally after one of the characters in my school reader. The blue one was the smallest, and my brother named it simply Chick. Being two at the time, Chick was as imaginative as he could get. We enjoyed them for weeks. As all chicks do, Trouble, Sally and Chick eventually outgrew both their colors and the cute stage, and my Dad suggested that they might be happier with the other chickens in the coop on Grandpa Bechtol's farm. Being normal kids, we didn't want to give up our feathered friends, but Dad told us we could visit them any time we wanted, and that chickens needed their freedom. So, for months afterwards we visited them at the farm. Grandpa always pointed them out to us, and they seemed happy and content with their fellow chickens, and of course, we were proud of ourselves for having given them their freedom. Years later, when I was a little more grown up and a little less gullible, I realized that Grandpa Bechtol couldn't tell one of his chickens from the other, yet he lovingly pointed out our special friends to us each time we asked. That's what makes grandparents so wonderful. So, with Easter just around the corner, I remember fondly those days long ago, and say a special prayer of thanks for my "Pappy Bechtol". In loving memory, George Cleveland Bechtol, 1884-1958 Diana Mason

    1. [PACENTRE] James Monk Trial
    2. Hi List, I've gotten many e-mails regarding the posting I did A LONG TIME AGO on the Monk Trial. Answers to frequently asked questions: 1. The posted info is all I know about the trial. 2. Linn's History (the source) is "History of Centre and Clinton Counties, Pennsylvania", by John Blair Linn, published in 1883. I think I bought my copy years ago from The Centre County Historical Society, but I can't be certain about that. Perhaps anyone who knows where to get one currently could advise the List. 3. Please don't attach files to your e-mails to me as I have been burned twice by bad virus problems, and I don't open attachments. My computer is loaded with all my genealogy files, and even though my virus protection seems adequate, I don't want to lose anything. Diana Mason

    1. [PACENTRE] Census index lookup

    3. Hi -- I was wondering if anyone with the 1880 Mormon census CD would be willing to look up Oliver Crawford, age 16 or 17 (born August 1864) living somewhere in Pennsylvania. If I know what census records to look in I can look them them up, but because he is not the head of the household, I haven't had any luck finding him in any indexes. Thanks.
