    1. [PACENTRE] Boals Gap and Tussey sink
    2. Karl Moyer
    3. In the process of figuring out the Stamm family of Centre Co, some of whom later removed to Stephenson Co IL, I come up against several usages from earlier times strange to me: 1. "...buried Sunday in the new Cem. at Boals Gap..." as reported in a 5 Feb 1903 newspaper. Where is "Boals Gap" and what "new" -- as of 1903 -- cemetery might be referenced here? 2. I see a number of references to Tussey sink, with _sink_ never capitalized. Is that Tusseyville or some other place? Your help will be greatly appreicated. Cordially, Karl E. Moyer Lancaster PA

    1. [PACENTRE] Photo identification needed
    2. Ellen
    3. Hi Folks, Last week I met a delightful woman who shared a family reunion photo with me. Her eyesight is failing and she said she wouldn't be able to identify many of the people in the photo. However, we are going to get together soon with an enlarged copy in hopes that she is able to recognize a few faces. The photo is of a family reunion hosted by John W. Benner and his wife, Mary Jane Breon in 1919. I've placed some brief notes on the page, to give you a background on who is likely in the photo. Please take a look at this web site, perhaps you will recognize some of your grandparents or collateral relatives in it. I would appreciate hearing from you if you are able to identify anyone. I'll post the results of your identifications and of the woman who possesses the photo. The photo is posted on: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~ecoppe/Benner.html Have fun looking for your family! Ellen Copper State College, PA

    3. A lister recently posted the web address for maps from the Census Bureau. There is another that is also excellent, and the maps are usable in most any project without a fee: Go to: http://www.graphicmaps.com/clipart.htm where you will see their usage policy, which permits many uses we as genealogists might make of these maps. Click on the link: "Outline Maps" and there click on the link for "USA States'"in the right hand column, which will take you to a list of links for each state. These maps are outline maps with county lines for each state in the US. There is no text, making them very versatile. The site also has other types of maps. Ellen Copper

    3. Looking for any information on Myrtle M Wynn who married Frank A Shirk in Pa in 1901. Both individuals are proving to be my brick walls and unfortunately I have little to no information on either of these two. Just hoping someone recognizes the names and has some additional info. I do know that on the 1900 census, Myrtle is living with parents at home and working at a silk mill as a weaver with her sisters. Have no other info after that date, till she gives birth in Texas in 1919. Looking to fill the 18 year gap and to get confimation or information on Frank Shirk. Thanks, Robin robindilley@prodigy.net

    2. Karl, I was scanning my shelves this evening and happened to find a copy of Norman F. Douty's 1974 work, "The Douty - Smith and Beck - Price Families." I found a Mary Price who is probably your Maria. On page 109 of his work he mentions a Jacob Price (b. perhaps 1794; d 1847); married Sophia. Among their children, he names the first as Mary. Douty writes: "After Jacob's death, the family evidently moved to Stephenson Co., Ill., as most of its members were there in 1891, when Sophia Price (now Sophia Lauber) died, probably in her nineties." 3. Hi -- Does anyone have any information on Samuel and Bell (Isabelle Watson) Riddle, married December 19, 1866 in Bellefonte (Thanks to Jean Corio for that information!) They are listed on the census in Blair County (Frankstown) in 1870 and 1880 with children Lizze B. (probably Blanche) born 1869, Samuel, born 1874, and Bertha born 1879. Also looking for information on Silas and Elizabeth Moore, also living in Frankstown in 1880 and listed as cousins of Anna B. Watson, age 23, daughter of James Watson and Elizabeth Hess. Silas was 59 and Elizabeth 55 in 1880. I'm wondering how they were related. And thank you Marge Wilcox for the census information! Also -- is anyone researching the Hess family?

    3. Can anyone identify and supply infomration about the following, esp. ancestors but also any other info: George Stamm (b. ?? Centre Co - d. 13 Apr 1871, Stephenson Co IL) his wife Mary Price (b. Centre Co - d. 6 Jul 1879, Orangeville, Stephenson Co. IL They were married in Orangeville IL on 6 July 1829( ? ). In _Centre Co. PA Records_ by Suzanne Walkowiak Rice I see a birth record of one George Stamm, b. 2 July 1808 to Adam and Elizabeth Stamm and baptized on 14 Aug 1808, both from the union church at Tusseyville. Might this child be this George Stamm who died in IL? In the same book I also see this: another George Stamm, b. 13 Oct 1838, baptized 29 Dec, 1838; son of Philip and Catharine Stamm; recorded in the Lutheran records at Aaronsburg My interest is especially in Isaac Stamm, son of the George Stamm and Mary (Price) Stamm; one source reports Isaac as being born in Union Co PA. Are the baptismal, marriage, death and/or cemegery records of Tusseyville available for purchase? If so, how? Finally: is there any relationship beween this George Stamm and one J(ohn) William Stamm, who was married to Anna Meyer on 13 January 1870 by the Rev. W. H. Groh of Boalsburg? All help gratefully received! Cordially, Karl E. Moyer Lancaster PA

    3. I have two Twitmyer family bibles. The 1st is in german but was an american bible published in Germantown in 1799 by Michael "Billmeyer"and owned by Johan Twitmyer. It was passed to the Oldest son(Emanuel Twitmyer) and then on to a middle son(George Wells Twitmyer) who passed it on to his eldest son (Edwin Burket Twitmyer). The second bible is an Oxford english bible owned in 1882 by George Wells Twitmyer who passed it on to his eldest son, Edwin Burket Twitmyer. It is interesting to me that the first bible contains the names and birthdates of all the children of Johan Twitmyer but two generations later his grandson did not follow the same tradition with his bible. 1. [PACENTRE] Family Bibles
    2. Hello all, In our family, the Bibles followed various patterns: The BREON Bible of my great-great-grandparents (Elias & Laura) was passed to the youngest child and son, and is in the hands of his youngest son (my grandfather). The SLIKER Bible of my great-great-grandparents (John & Mary) was passed to the youngest child and daughter (with whom my great-great-grandmother also lived), and then to her eldest daughter (my grandfather's sister). The HARTER Bible really got around. I believe that the one I have seen was purchased by my great-great-grandfather, Andrew Harter (1823-1900), and given as a wedding gift to his daughter, Lucy Belle, and Lawrence Hile in 1886. Somehow, Lucy Belle gave it to her sister Laura (my great-great-grandmother). All of their siblings are written in it, along with many photographs and obituary clippings. It descended to my great-great-aunt (the middle child), and is now in the hands of her daughter, my cousin Eleanor, who is now 85 years old. I borrowed it for an extended period and copied everything out of it. There was another Bible that belonged to the parents in this family (Andrew and Susan HARTER), which was a German Bible. The last I knew of it was in Virginia. The woman who had it died last summer, and I have written to her daughter for copies of anything of interest in it, but have heard nothing. The HOUSER family Bible, printed in the German, and which may have been one of the celebrated Froschauer Bibles, was supposed to have been in the possession of my great-grandfather, but "disappeared" either just before or during his estate sale in 1979. I strongly believe this Bible was the one brought to America by my 6th great grandfather, a Mennonite, in 1749, and was probably printed sometime in the 16th or 17th century. The Bible of my 4th great-uncle, Peter BREON (1828-1897), did indeed turn up on E-bay. I bought it and it is now in my possession. How such a book, with clippings and even photographs, was ever sold out of the family remains a mystery to me; I treasure it. My maternal great-great-grandmother, Julia (WASYLISZYN) EVINSKY (1868-1941) had a Slovak Bible with a white leather cover that was, to the best of my grandmother's recollection, buried with her! At present, those are the only family Bibles I can think of in our family.
