    3. Meredyth and Evan are out of school and had their final assembly. Meredyth was chosen as a representive of the Student Council to lead the assembly. here is a picture of her addressing the audience. She has great poise and we were impressed with her ability to speak comfortably in front of a crowd. Following is a picture of Evan receiving a reading award. The two little girls next to him (Melissa Olivar-Ortiz and Rania Oustad both love Evan and chase him around the playground...he thinks they are great pests!) we hope everyone is well! Sara & Eric

    1. [PACENTRE] Halderman/Holderman/Halterman Family
    2. kmgrover
    3. Good evening folks, especially Justin. The Halderman side of my family lived in Centre County in the 1st half of the 1800's. My ggggrandfather Joseph Halderman moved to Rockland Twp/Venango County and is listed there in the 1850 US Census. In the Ancestry copy he is listed at the bottom of page 18/34 of that census. Just above him (next farm) is his son Samuel & wife. Top of the next page 19/34 lists some very young children, presumably living in the same household as Joseph, age 64. The names do not fit Halderman family patterns. If one goes to page 15/34, same census book, the TOP of the page starts with 3 Halderman young adult males Jacob, Daniel, and Benjamin who are the sons of Joseph, plus a grandson of Joseph's, George W Stover, and a female resident Catharine 18 yrs. old. All living in the household of an unrelated family listed at bottom of page 14. If one would swap the pages indicated as 15 and 19 (by Ancestry) the family and neighborhood naming patterns make much more sense. I contend that someone, somewhere, sometime swapped these pages. Assuming that, the real household of Joseph Halderman consists of him, wife, the three named sons, one grandson (Stover) (probably by daughter Susannah who died in 1847), and the young woman Catharine Rose(?). The reason I place a question after Rose is that the image on line is unclear. The Ancestry index calls her by Rose. I have been searching for years for a relative named Catharine Rife. Question of the day is: "does anyone out there have access to a clearer copy of that census page or other Rockland/Venango records of the names in that household?" I know this is not strictly Centre County stuff, but Halderman researchers in Centre County are probably interested anyway. Thanks, Robert Grover

    1. [PACENTRE] Temporary List Down Period
    2. Hello folks, Received this message and thought I'd pass it along: Beginning Monday, 10 June 2002, RootsWeb will begin the complex and time-consuming process of upgrading our servers to new hardware. o What does this mean for you? Well, it means some servers will be unavailable during this time unavailable and we are asking for your patience. For up-to-date information about the different resources, you can visit http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ as the move progresses. o List Administrators: When the time comes to move list servers, we will be halting operation on the machine to complete the move. We expect to have the machines down the least amount of time possible. No mail will be sent from or posted to your mailing lists. We do not expect to lose any messages. o Board Administrators: Nothing, unless your board happens to be gatewayed to a mailing list then the information for list administrators apply. o Web Pages: FTP will be down so that changes can't be made to pages until everything is working correctly on the new servers. There will be a short time that the pages will not be available as the transfer takes place. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we go through a few "growing pains." -- Vicki Lindsay Thauvin RootsWeb Staff vicki@rootsweb.com Justin Justin Kirk Houser Genealogist/Researcher of Central PA and Beyond Main Lines: Houser, Breon, Shawley, Ranio/Hrynio (and others) President, Bellefonte Area HS Class of 2003 Student Representative, Bellefonte Area School District Board of Education Listowner, PACENTRE-L@Rootsweb.com Historian, Schürch Association of North America (specialty Central PA lines) Member, Valley View United Methodist Church (near Bellefonte, PA) "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature"

    3. Hi Mary and all interested, Since I'm the chair of the cemetery project, I guess I should answer this one! The actual reading of the cemetery, as well as the typing, indexing and proofreading of the book, is finished. However, we've had an opportunity that rarely presents itself, in that we were able to photocopy the cemetery association records. This consists of 3 books covering from approximately 1900 to present, listing each grave opening and closing. The details varied from year to year and clerk to clerk, but there is a lot of information. We are still struggling at compiling a list of unmarked graves (and their approximate locations whenever possible) and also marked graves with no death date on the stone. It becomes crazy when the burial is for 'Mrs. Smith' or 'Baby on John Jones lot'.... etc. Please bear with us, hopefully it won't be much longer. Watch the genealogy society web site for sales information. We also have some other books getting awfully close to completion, so you may see 2 new ones before the end of the summer. 2. Thank you Justin. That is exactly what happened. When I hit reply to write the post, the spell check came up immediately. When I clicked it off, the message was automatically sent. I was going to include an apology in the post - but decided that would just make things worse. As for the tag, it is not advertising, but for information. 1. Re: [PACENTRE] on-line advertising
    2. Showell and all, This is what I believe happened: In AOL a person has the ability to put e-mail signatures under their name. I do so myself (as you'll see below). This identifies the person, and their interests. I have no problem with this. It looks like Ravenia tried to type the email re: Hayes/Hughes but her AOL sent a blank message twice to the list. She finally got the email to send the message the third time. Sometimes my AOL "acts up" in the same manner; it sends a blank message, with the automatic signature affixed to the bottom. Therefore, it is my belief that the sending of just the signature promoting her personal business was an error on the part of AOL sending the message before it was ready. She has contributed insightful discussion to this list in the past and I'm willing to accept the above explanation, as it has happened to me. As a general guideline, let me just encourage all to be extra-careful in making sure that messages are not sent before completely filled out, if at all possible. Let's put this matter to rest and get on with the purpose of the list. 2. I'm hoping some of you HAYS/HAYES researchers has a Thomas Hayes. A great aunt, Gussie OSWALT, b. 1882, Clarence, Snow Shoe Tshp. Centre County m. Thomas Hayes. Unfortunately, I have no other information on Thomas. I assume they settled either in the vicinity of Snow Shoe, or Dubois, Clearfield County, as the family was interactive with Gus's sister, Bertha (my gram) who lived in Dubois and visited Snow Shoe regularly in the early 1900s when my mother was a child. I would love to knock down this brick wall. Leigh Strange, CCHT, RMT Ask me about hypnotherapy for enhanced self-esteem, pain management, self-healing, spiritual emergence, past life regression.
