    1. [PACENTRE] Too hasty, and didn't read page correctly!
    2. Listers: Just a little advice when you receive records, data, etc. In my haste to read the papers that Joyce Adgate sent, I neglected to read correctly the dates on the D.I. copy. Patrick KELLY's D.I. was the 27th of Aug, 1844, and his "swearing-in"/naturalization was one year later, to the day, 27th of Aug, 1845. So, he was naturalized, and I do have the information that I need. My thanks to all who have helped with this search! <G> Regards, Marybeth C.

    1. Re: [PACENTRE] Need an address, and a Big breakthrough!
    2. Marybeth, If you have the Declaration of Intent, then you have the most detailed of the Naturalization papers already. All of Centre Co.'s are digitized and you can view them for yourself at: http://county.centreconnect.org/hrip/index.htm They contain the Naturalization files from 1802 to 1929, our Revolutionary War county declarations, and our Slave Registers from 1803 to 1820. Hope this helps you out. Re: The Ship records, you can order them at your nearest LDS Family History Center for a minimal fee on microfilm. Order the indices and the dates of arrival to be sure of locating your relative. 3. Good evening list - Can anyone tell me the available records for marriages that occurred in 1919? My grandparents were married in Bellefonte in May, 1919 but I have no idea whether it was a Justice of the Peace, a church, a court, etc. Would Centre county hold records of all marriages regardless of where in the county a couple married? 2. Marge Wilcox
    3. Hi: My great grandfather, John I. Shaner was recruited from Centre Co., June 1861, Co. E., 5th Regiment, Penn. Res., (34th Regiment--never had understood the double numbers). He left the infantry and joined the 6th US Cavalry shortly after Sharpsburg. This company was not exclusively Centre Co. men, but all from general area. John re-enlisted in 1864 and finished his six years out West protecting the settlers. I checked the list of Co. E. members and found a Thomas Kelly, died Dec 1862 of wounds received at Fredericksburg Dec. 1862, but no Patrick. I believe I found my information in a volume from the PA Archives rented from Hoenstine and I assume those books are not in the Blair Co. Gen Soc. Library. Hope this helps. 1. [PACENTRE] additional help needed
    2. One thing I forgot to include in my previous query. On the D.I. papers it states that Patrick KELLY, left LIverpool on the 15th of June, 1841, arriving in New York on or about the 30th of July, 1841. He was a native of Co. Galway, and 26 yrs. of age. Might anyone have knowledge about ship records for this time period? Again, many thanks for the help from this list. Marybeth Corrigall ACMBJC@aol.com

    1. [PACENTRE] Need an address, and a Big breakthrough!
    2. Thanks to Joyce Adgate, librarian at the PA Room, Centre Co. Library & Hist. Museum, I think I have finally located my 2nd greatgrandfather, Patrick KELLY!!! Joyce was kind enough to do a search for a reference to another ancestor, Martin DOLAN, brother of Patrick Kelly's wife, Mary Ann DOLAN. In the copies she sent was included xerox copies of a Decl. of Intent for a Patrick KELLY, 27 Aug, 1844, age 26 years, native of Co. Galway, Ireland. This data pretty much "fits the bill" for my ancestor. My next step is to write for his Naturalization papers, and am hoping someone on the list can provide the address for the courthouse in Bellefonte that would have a record for this. Thank you for your time. Marybeth Corrigall ACMBJC@aol.com

    1. Re: [PACENTRE] Civil War regiment question
    2. Marybeth, The 148th was known as the "Centre Co. Regiment." The 45th and 49th also contained many Centre Countians. Some of mine also served in the 110th and the 34th Regt., 5th Reserves. You need to check Samuel P. Bates' book "History of the Pennsylvania Volunteers 1861-5," published 1869. If you don't have access to one, subscribe to the PA Civil War list at Rootsweb as they are very helpful. I don't have the exact name of it here but I know I am subscribed. <grin> Patrick doesn't show up in Linn's History, which chronicles many (but not all) of the Centre Co. Civil War soldiers. 1. [PACENTRE] Benson Sanitorium
    2. Hello everyone, Can someone enlighten me as to the location of the BENSON Sanitorium? My relative, William M. Houser of Philipsburg, died there on Jan. 8, 1943. I'd like to know what township and county this is in. Is it possibly the successor to the old McGirk Sanitorium in Rush Twp, Centre Co.? Or is this an entirely different place? I'd greatly appreciate any insight into this. 1. Re: [PACENTRE] Lauver
    2. Gloria, I cannot help you much right now but I know that in Benner Twp. there was a community called Lauvertown. It sat right across from the present headquarters of the Rockview State Correctional Institution. It has been gone for years, since 1912 when the prison bought all the land and tore the properties down. When our Benner Twp. Sesquicentennial History comes out next year, information will be included on Lauvertown. I believe Daniel Lauver is the one for whom it was named. 1. [PACENTRE] RE: ISBN number needed
    2. Ellen
    3. Hi Marybeth and listers, I'm sure someone will check this book for you and see if it has an ISBN number. However, I will make a general reply, since I am a librarian and have some experience with ISBN numbers. ISBN numbers are assigned to books by their publishers, who purchase (they are not free) a series of numbers to assign to their upcoming publications. Unfortunately, most genealogy books are published in very limited quanties and are never assigned ISBN numbers. Also, often family genealogies are not published by a large publisher like Knopf, Harper, or the like, and the publisher does not have a series of numbers to pull from. Individuals often print things themselves, via a local printing company -- this is called 'vanity press' and these companies don't routinely even know what an ISBN is. If a book is purchased from a large bookstore like Barnes and Noble, it will have an ISBN. This is why the Centre co Genealogical Society books are not carried by these stores -- they will not carry them unless they have an ISBN and it is too much trouble and expense for the CCGS to purchase a series of ISBN numbers for our books. Also, an ISBN is unique to a certain edition of a book, so that if even one word is changed in a subsequent printing, the book must receive a new ISBN. More headaches than most societies or individuals are willing to put up with. Hope I've helped? I've been away for 2 weeks and have not read every posting to this list, so this question may already have been addressed. If so, sorry!!!!
