I'm almost afraid to stick my neck out on this subject again, but I agree 100% - I also think the subject line should reflect what is in the post. Unfortunately, when I made the same comments a month ago, I received one of the nastiest emails ever sent to me personally, not to the board, from a Diggety Dork. 3. My mother made chocolate bread pudding by substituting chocolate bits (Nestle's semi-sweet morsels) for the raisins. This is the only way I ever had bread pudding until I went to college. What a disappointment it was to discover the dark bits in the pudding served at the dorm cafeteria were not chocolate, but raisins! I have since learned to enjoy bread pudding with raisins, but it cannot top the pudding made with chocolate. Pat

    2. Hi Nancy, Thanks for the information on Phillip Benner. He and Conrad Reamy, probably the master forgeman, both appear on my Casper Ross's Nat papers. I am hoping to find some records and maybe his wifes name. It's not real apparent on the Federal census records although it looks like Mary. I keep wondering, if Casper was from Germany or Holland how likely would a German settle in Centre county? Does that sound about right? I'll send you a page of his nat papers with Benners name. Barbara Robertson -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Mon, 1 Jan 2007 8:40 AM Subject: [PACENTRE] Subject Lines This is a general comment. Previously if anyone "replied" to an email, it went directly to the person who sent the email and was not posted on the entire list. Since this has changed, there have been a number of problems. One has been the increase in emails that are really replies back and forth on a topic that is possibly of limited interest. (I for one enjoy all the food lore but know that this is not a universal interest.) The other is that the subject lines do not reflect the content of the email. This is a problem for me since with the increased volume, I don't read everything and may be missing out on some information of interest. Example -- there was a response to an email with subject "Ebbs, Brown, Orner" which I have not been reading. However I happened to look at this one and it was about early Centre County history -- not "Ebbs, Brown, Orner." I think this is happening because people are using reply to post general queries. 2. I second what Justin Houser has said about relationships. My father's only sibling, a brother, died young at age 38 and left two preschoolers. for many reasons his affairs were a mess and it took my father and a family friend several months to straighten things out. In the meantime the family friend's wife died suddenly leaving him with two school aged children. They married about a half year after the deaths of their spouses. They kept in close touch with my parents and me and my sibs over the years. My spouse's family reunion got to the point one year of the ex son in law and his significant other showing up for the same reunion as the daughter and her new spouse. Jean

    3. I am just coming in on the tail end of these conversations. A few years ago I copied the information below as something fun to add to my histories as my sisters in law love sweets. Unfortunately I only commented that I found it on line and I don't remember where I saw it. I have not tried it but it sounds good. >>CHOCOLATE GRAVY; I take about 2-3 tablespoons of butter (real butter is best) and melt it over low heat. Combine about 2-3 tablespoons of Hershey's Cocoa and about 3 tablespoons of flour and 1/2 cup of sugar (more or less, depending on how sweet you want it. I sometimes start with a little less.) Stir together to mix and put in with the melted butter and cook just a little to get the flour taste out. Add milk, a little at a time and keep stirring so as not to let it lump. Amount of milk depends on how thick you want your gravy. Not too thick because you want it so that you can sop your biscuits in it. You can add a smidgen of vanilla if you like. When it is done, spoon over hot buttered homemade biscuits and enjoy. Of course at our age, have to watch all of the fattening things, but it is so good in the morning.<< >>And from another; Ah yes, chocolate gravy. I grew up in the boot heel of Missouri and my parents were from Tennessee. Every morning of my young life there was chocolate gravy and biscuits along with milk gravy and biscuits on the table for breakfast. On weekends when the woman folk were not in the cotton fields, there would be fried potatoes to go with it.<< Beverly Carter [email protected] -- No virus found in this outgoing message.
