    1. [PACENTRE] Unknown Wives
    2. Sue Renkert
    3. I have two women in my ancestry for whom I have found no information as to maiden name, parentage, etc. Elizabeth was the wife of Samuel Brillhart, who was born ca 1780-1790 in Pennsylvania. He was likely from York County, but I have not made a definite connection. He first appears in Centre County in 1815 in Aaronsburg. I don't know if he and Elizabeth married before or after coming to Centre County. Their children Jacob (1815), Margaret (1817) and Peter (1823) were christened at Salem Lutheran Church in Aaronsburg. Samuel remarried to Abigail Frantz Stover, probably between 1833 and 1840. Samuel apparently died before the 1850 census. Jacob, the son of Samuel & Elizabeth Brillhart, apparently died young. Margaret married John Ross Bell in 1832. Peter married a woman named Mary J., born 1811-1812 in Pennsylvania, and I have no information on her parentage or her maiden name. At the time of the 1850 census, they lived in Milesburg Boro. Peter died in the fall of 1855 at the age of 33. His estate makes no mention of Mary, so I assume she was no longer living. I suspect they both succumbed to illness. Their children Hiram (12) and Agnes Amelia (4) were left orphans. Hiram may have been taken in by David & Amelia Feese of Woodward. (Are there school records available for 1860 for this area?) He later married Sarah Fees of Union County. Agnes was taken in and raised by Israel and Lucetta Weaver of Aaronsburg. Would there have been any kind of legal proceedings involved in these arrangements in 1855? If so, where would such records be located? I sure would appreciate it if folks could take a look at their databases and perhaps any will transcriptions they may have to see if they have a Mary J. born about 1811-1812 or an Elizabeth of an age to have children born 1815-1823. I know these are extremely common names, but somewhere there must be a record of who they were. I have no marriage records, and no information on where any of these folks (except Hiram, Agnes and Abigail) are buried. Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!! Happy New Year to all of you from Fairbanks, Alaska! Sue

    2. Charlotte Schmotzer
    3. Whoa, never went to a spelling quite like that... actually the Swaney's-Sweeny's-Sweany's-Swiney's were part of the earliest settlers in Pleasant Gap, stayed in the county for several generations (about 100 years) then moved to Clearfield and then Indiana counties, with one family moving to Harrisburg area and one member --Kyler--missing. after Indiana county some moved out of state to Michigan. I am in contact with all of those families, but have no knowledge of Illinois family, and predecessor were John and sons Michael and George who were Scots-Irish and came over from Ireland. John, son Michael and grandson John are mentioned in the HISTORY of Pleasant Gap available on line. however, I will copy this information and keep it "just in case!" I thank you very much for the information and the effort. 2. CHARLOTTE - Quite frankly, I'm not even sure why I have these people in my database as they are not my kin . . . at least, not direct blood-kin . . . at most, "shirt-tail relatives" (i.e., relatives of relatives). I will make whatever changes are necessary in my d.b. concerning these . . . maybe none, actually -- except to remove MAZE as maiden name of Mary 1827-1898, wife of John 1813-1883. (Do you happen to know this Mary's maiden name?) The only child my d.b. shows for said couple, anyhow, is Wm. M. Sweeny 1864-1937 who m. 1-9-1896 to Margaret C. "Maggie" Foust 1873-1941. Aha! I see! This last named couple are parents of Ralph W. Sweeny who m. Pearl Edna Fishburn. They were very good friends of my parents during my growing-up years in Lemont. Mary Maze (could be MAYES) in 1847 and had 2 more kids... my great JOHN is youngest. I have been working on the Potters Mills side as well, but not too hard. I know about that Mary's death. our John died before his wife but the grave inscription is as follows (her body was not recoverd or identified after the flood) "Mary Belle Lontz, Tombston Inscriptions of Centre Co, page 41, SWANEY, John d. 8/28/1887, 77y4m26d wife Mary A. age 74y Lost in the Conemaugh flood 5/31/1889" BUT, thanks for the quick reply and info....
