    3. I wonder if this Mims family is linked to Samuel Mims on whose land the infamous Ft. Mims massacre occurred in Baldwin Co, AL, in 1813? This was one of the largest massacres of white settlers by Indians in American history, but few have heard of it other than those who grew up in Alabama and studied Alabama history in high school. Some 250 to 500 white settlers were killed in Ft Mims by Creek Indians in late August of 1813. The response by Andrew Jackson, with TN and GA militia, went a long way toward destroying the Creek nation. http://www.canerossi.us/ftmims/massacre.htm Paces were in the area at the time with John and Dempsey Pace (sons of Frederick Pace of Wales or John Pace the Tory - choose your favorite) not too far up the river in adjacent Clarke County. During this time, one or both of the brothers, with their families, took refuge in the Turner stockade very near to where I grew up. After the massacre, it is likely that they left that small stockade and waited at the larger fort at St. Stephens until it was safe to return home. Sarah Pace Date: Sun, 21 May 2006 07:06:43 -0400 Someone asked me about a Robert Mims who married Sarah Pace on the Mims GenForum#1497 is a long post about the Mims family which starts with a Thomas Mims b.abt. 1600 and died in Va. One of his descendents was a Robert Mims, son of Lionel Mims who was born abt.1685 in St.Peter's Parish, New Kent, Virginia and died about 1732 in Bertie County, North Carolina Also mentioned is a Benjamin Mims , b .before June 13, 1710 in New Kent County. He mentioned Judith Woodson. The Woodson family was later in Goochland, and Fluvanna Counties and married into the Pace families. So maybe someone can find who this Sarah Pace, wife of Robert Mims is by tracing the Mims family into North Carolina ==== PACE Mailing List ==== To share info which may be of interest to others, reply to the mail list (PACE-L@rootsweb.com).
