I could not find the information I received from the Johnston County, NC Heritage Center telling about who was eligible for the voter registration and why there was an "ancestor" listed. A google search brought up the following voter registration requirements from a Rockingham Co., NC website. http://www.usgennet.org/usa/nc/county/rockingham1/local.html "This registration was mandated by North Carolina in 1902. Any male was eligible to vote if he could read and write or if he had been eligible to vote in 1867 or if he was descended from a man who was eligible to vote in 1867. This record lists the voter's name, his age, the name and residence of the ancestor from whom descended, the date the voter registered and his township." Note in the case of Larry Pace below, the Larry Pace "ancestor" may have been Larry Pace himself as he was probably eligible to vote in 1867. Copies of the original voter registrations below can most likely be obtained from the Johnston County, NC Heritage Center. I hope my earlier post hasn't confused anyone.
