    1. Re: [PACE-L] Funding for "illegitimate" line MCDANIEL PACE b. 1856

    3. Here are my main arguments that Zilpha Pace b. bet 1839-1845 may not be McDaniel Pace's mother: ZILPHA PACE, most likely the daughter of John Pace & Edney Batten, was b. abt. 1845(maybe b. 1839-1844?) and her purported nephew MCDANIEL was b. July 1856 per 1900 census. There is a range of 9-22 YEARS age DIFFERENCE between ZILPHA PACE AND MCDANIEL PACE WHEN LOOKING AT THE 5 CENSUS YEARS. THEIR AGE DIFFERENCE VARIES FROM 9, 13, 18 & 22 YEARS. Note McDaniel Pace's census age is fairly consistent, while Zilpha's age varies too much, leading one to believe her age reporting is deliberate for some cover-up reasons or more likely just ignorance by those reporting info. This Zilpha Pace, who married Henry Garner, is an supposedly an Aunt to McDaniel as noted in the Land deed between John Pace the grantor, and Zilpha (Pace) Garner, the grantee. CENSUS YEARS COMPARISON TO DETERMINE AGE OF MOTHER AT THE TIME OF MCDANIELS BIRTH TO DEAL WITH THE ISSUE OF MCDANIEL PACE BEING BORN TO ZILPHA PACE GARNER who married Henry Garner Aug 3, 1870 in Johnston Co., NC 1860 CENSUS, ZILPHA AGE 21, & MCDANIEL IS 3: AGE DIFFERENCE 18 YEARS 1870 CENSUS, ZILPHA AGE 24, & MCDANIEL IS 15, AGE DIFFERENCE 9 YEARS 1880 CENSUS, ZILPHA IS AGE 35, & MCDANIEL IS 22, AGE DIFFERENCE 13 YEARS 1900 CENSUS, ZILPHA IS ? & MCDANIEL IS 43, 1910 CENSUS, ZILPHA 75, & MCDANIEL IS 53, AGE DIFFERENCE IS 22 YEARS Ideas??? 3. Another theory regarding the parentage of McDaniel Pace b . 1856 Bartly Pace (b. 1821-1826, d. bef. 1860) md Zilphey Batten 15 Jan 1850, Johnston Co.; Bondsman: Henry Starling; Witness: H I Bell CHILDREN DAVID, b. abt 1850 BYTHAN, b. abt 1852 MERIT, b. abt 1854-55, md Eliza Sulevant May 14, 1885, Johnston Co., NC HARRIET, b. abt 1855-1856 AND MAYBE MCDANIEL, b. July 1856 (per 1900 census) Bartly Pace is purported to be a son of John Pace & Edney Batten Marriage: 22 DEC 1821 , Johnston, North Carolina Is this Zilphey Batten Pace the mother of McDaniel Pace but the actual father is Daniel Sellers? Need Harriet and McDaniel's birthdates to see if there is 8-9 months difference or if they are twins. What mother would give up one twin if such occurred, but we do not know until 1860 where McDaniel is living. So if his father is Bartley who died before the 1860 census, then maybe he went to live with his grandparents, but if his father is possibly Daniel Sellers, maybe it was better for the grandparents to rear him. Bartley PACE died by 1859 per the dower noted. PACE, BARTLEY - 1859 - Wid. Zilpha [Batten] Pace dower 25-1/2 ac. (10+) Also Zilpha Batten Pace is widowed at the time of the 1860 Census So why is McDaniel living in 1860 Census with his grandparents John & Edney Pace, his Aunt Zilpha Pace, and in 1870 Census he is living with his widowed grandfather John and a Frances E. Pace, age 7? One of McDaniels purported mother's Zilpha Batten Pace, (b. abt 1832), is widowed in 1860 with 4 of her children living with her, next door to her in-laws John and Edney Pace. My theory is that McDaniel, age 3 in 1860, is living with his grandparents for some reason, death of his mother, maybe house space? McDaniel is still living next door to his Aunt Zilpha Pace Garner in 1870 at the age of 15 (maybe an age error?) and he is also close to Zilpha Batten Pace, widowed wife of Bartly Pace. This is one more theory and it may not stand up to a real test. Larry Pace
