I'm sorry, but I'm afraid part of that is incorrect. Gov. Edward Digges and wife Elizabeth Page had 13 children, but most of them died without issue, probably in infancy. Only five of the children were identified: William, Dudley, Edward (d.w.i.), Ann, and Mary. No Catherine. This is proved by the settlement of the personal estate of Elizabeth Page Digges 1693, see Adventurers of Purse and Person in the Digges section. The wife of William Herndon (if he had a wife) is unknown. It's also unknown whether he was the father of Edward Herndon. The wife of Edward Herndon is also unknown. For years it was claimed that she was Mary Waller, daughter of John Waller of Newport Pagnell and sister of Col. John Waller of Spotsylvania. However, Mary Waller chr. 23 May 1674 in Newport Pagnell died aged two, on 16 Jun 1676. This can be seen in the online version of the I.G.I., in the Newport Pagnell parish records extracted by the Mormons, Batch No. P015221. The wide circulation of these and other errors is largely due to a family history book published by a John Goodwin Herndon in the 1940s. JG Herndon also claimed that one of my ancestors married a Herndon daughter, but there is no evidence of that and also no evidence that the "daughter" ever existed. So that is why I have gone into these errors quite thoroughly. JG Herndon's unsupported claims, widely repeated, misled me for quite some time when I started researching my family history. I have not checked out JG Herndon's claims that William Herndon married Ann Drysdale, since that is not my line. Personally I would never take JG Herndon's word for any genealogical matters. I don't wish to cast aspersions but the fact is, his book cannot be relied on. As for the Spencers, I don't have a record of the names you mention but it might be well worth checking them out to see whether they might lead back to the Jamestown Spencers. There are many descendants, so it could turn out to be so.
