One of my best documented lines started in America as an indentured servant. Isaac Hutto came into SC in 1735, served 4 years, and was then granted 350 acres by the crown. That was part of the deal in SC at that time - they were trying to attract those hard working thrifty Palatines. The point being that some indentured servants left a good record. I agree, of course, that many did not.
