Wanda YEP, <DUH>, it IS the law in Va. that the Marriage License be issued in the County where the Bride Lives. DUH, Again: I personally had this experience in 1952 when I Married My First Wife the Second time, <WELL I Doubt if any one would be able to understand that <ONE> Course I ALSO, wonder Just how Many of those that Cannot understand that, Have ever had a 6 1/2 Year old son look them in the face & tell their Mother That I do not know this Man. But I am sure this law is POST Circuit Rider Days. So it is very possible for some Marriage's to have been recorded in the Next County. SO it would not to check some of the Counties Adjoining the County where Aunt Jane or Grt Grand MA. was raised, JUST THINK abt this: Appomattox County, Va was formed from Campbell, Charolette, Buckingham & Prince Edward Counties. Records were Destroyed by Fire in 1895, Buckingham County Records were Destroyed By fire in 1869. NOW HERE IS A COUNTY That could affect MANY of us, Because, PLEASE follow Along: New Kent County, formed 1654 from York County <Original Shire> Records Burned 1865 During Civil WAR, ON TO Hanover 1721 formed from New Kent County. Records Destroyed in 1865. ON TO- Louisa County 1742 Formed from Hanover County, ON TO Albemarle County 1744 <PART OF IT> Formed from Louisa County, onto Amherst County 1761 formed from Albemarle County onto Nelson County Va. 1808 formed from Amherst County, So COUSINS JUST maybe the Circuit Rider did make it to an adjoining County, & leave The Marriage INFO that we haven't found. NOW this may look like going all around the Mountain to get to the Source, BUT, we will take a bit more of the area, Henrico 1634 Original SHIRE, <County on to Goochland County 1728 Formed from Henrico County. All records were Destroyed by Fire June 1820, Other Records were Destroyed in 1865 During the Civil WAR, 1744 Albemarle County Formed With part OF Goochland County ON To Buckingham County 1761 formed from Albemarle County All Records destroyed in 1869. AND, Fluvana 1777 formed from Albemarle County.
