About twenty years ago I was browsing the Genealogy section of the San Diego Public Library and ran across an old volume, pre-World War I, showing biographies of some members of the Colonial Dames. Perhaps they were some of the founding members. As I said this was twenty years ago, and my memory is not perfect. I have returned to the library and tried to locate this volume, but to no avail. I also made a fruitless search of the card catalogue. However, what caught my attention was that one of the members claimed a descent from Richard Pace of Jamestown. Proof of descent from said Richard is enough to insure entry into the organization today, providing one passes the gender test. I do not remember her name, though it was not Pace. I believe she resided in Georgia, perhaps Atlanta. If I could find this book, it would show a genealogy from Richard to said member. This genealogy would be of historical interest, I believe, since the date of the books entry dated from about 1905. Is anyone aware of this publication? The on-line catalogue of the Library of Congress shows some books on the subject of the membership of the Colonial Dames dating back to before 1915, but this is of no immediate help to me. --------------------------------- Yahoo! for Good Click here to donate to the Hurricane Katrina relief effort.
