Irene Wainwright, Asst. Archivist has announced that this facility was spared. Some false info had said that it was damaged but one of their vans was looted and another, perhaps, stolen. The main building is in great shape. The Technology Center had windows blown out but the damage was confined to one room. The Public Library System was hit hard, she said, with about half of their 11 branches under water. This is good news and was passed on to me by a friend in the GA Professional Genealogists. The previous concern noted about genealogical records from the states that were hit by the storm could be addressed by attempting to reach the Archives of each state, in their capitol cities. It would seem that any county record microfilm might be replaced by ordering from the LDS in Salt Lake. Perhaps, as we find out more, people will want to donate replacement materials for those that were lost. Ms. Wainwright states that the buildings that are under water will be replaced. Kathy Best
