    3. Hi Rebecca, Out of curiosity, I notice that when you view the surname list on SMGF, where they list a number next to the surname to tell you how many different lines there are for that surname, that it lists 8 lines for PACE. Does this mean there are 6 lines that we're unsure on since the William PACE/Ruth LAMBERT and the German line would only acct for 2 lines (unless I'm getting confused somewhere?) 3. I was intrigued by this Luther PACE line (German) so I went to the Census records and believe I've got his line back to Michael PACE/PEES as well. Luther's father was Orange PACE (wish I had some given names like that in my family lines to help shorten the list of potential matches!): Luther Pace b: 1858 OH Orange Pace b: abt 1824 OH David Pace b: 1800 PA David Pace b: 1775 PA Michael Pace Scott --- Scott Aaron <rtanyon@yahoo.com> wrote: > Hi Rebecca, > > Out of curiosity, I notice that when you view the > surname list on SMGF, where they list a number next > to > the surname to tell you how many different lines > there > are for that surname, that it lists 8 lines for > PACE. > Does this mean there are 6 lines that we're unsure > on > since the William PACE/Ruth LAMBERT and the German > line would only acct for 2 lines (unless I'm getting > confused somewhere?) > > Scott > > --- Rebecca Christensen <rchristen@sbcglobal.net> > wrote: > > > The Sorensen Molecular Genealogy Foundation (SMGF) > > database (www.smgf.org) currently includes 11 Pace > > participant results. 3. Scott, When you go to the page that gives the statistics on the surname, you are correct that it lists 8 Paces, but when you actually go to the result pages for the Pace surname, there are 11 Pace participants. The 8 Paces in the surname listing are 8 "separate lines" of Paces being represented in their database, according to the way the lineage information was submitted by the participants. But, when you actually look at the lineages (the pedigree icon on the result pages) there are fewer than 8 Pace families being represented in the database. For example, for the Michael Pace/Pees matching DNA results - one participant submitted only 4 generations (the minimum requirement) - ending with Amos Pace, b. 1875, wife Emma Margaret Tree, and another participant submitted his lineage through Amos Pace (same birth and wife) all the way back to Michael Pace. It appears that although the two participants share the same ancestor of Amos Pace, SMGF has counted this as two lines (of the "8") on the surname statistics page. This same thing happens with some of the William Pace/Ruth Lambert descendants - I believe the 6 participants of this line are counted as 3 Pace lines on the sur! name statistics page, as 4 people are connected in their database as sharing the same ancestor and these connect with a 5th participant in an earlier generation and one participant is not linked to the line in their database. SMGF Database 11 Pace participants 8 "unconnected in their database" Pace lines Michael Pace - 3 DNA matching participants - 2 share ancestor Amos Pace, one line ends with a Luther Pace - but 3 separate "lines" in the SMGF database William Pace/Ruth Lambert - 6 DNA matching participants - 4 share John Alma Lawrence Pace as an ancestor, 5 share William Pace (wife Margaret Nichols) as an ancestor, and the 6th participant is a descendant of a James O. Pace of Utah who is also likely William & Ruth's descendant (I know where he should fit, I just don't have the documentation to back it up) - but SMGF appears to count these as 3 separate "lines" in their database because of the way the lineages were submitted Thomas Barker Pace line - 1 participant - 1 "line" Thomas Johnson/Pace line - 1 participant - 1 "line" Totals - 11 participants - 8 "lines" in the database - but it appears that there are only 4 family groups, which happens to correspond with the 4 unique sets of DNA results. I hope this helps and is understandable - it may not make much sense unless you look at all of the pedigrees submitted by the 11 participants. 3. Thanks Rebecca, Excellent explanation.
