Darlene, Bruce's book, pages 208 and 209: "On the morning of the 15th the two belligerents collided on the west side of the river on the high ground above the ford, in what is today Yadkin County, and a sharp engagement took pace. The Tory force was given as 300 mounted men and of that number it is said 14 or 15 of them were killed in the engagement and only one Patriot killed. The Tories broke in confusion and scattered in every direction. They made good their escape, but the Patriots continued to hunt for them and give battle wherever found. "The problem is no record was ever made giving the names of the killed and wounded in this affair. It is a fact, however, that John, Thomas and Richmond Pace died during that same time period. They never returned home, and in a petition sent by Burwell Pace to the General Assembly in 1781, he states that his father and brother were both "killed" as opposed by just being dead......."
