Darrell: I am sending a copy of this message to the Pace Mailing List in the hope of getting feedback from some of the list members. Darrell Pace (not a list member) is searching for the ancestry of his Joseph Barker Pace b. 1804 NC, d. 1885 NC, married Elizabeth Truitt in 1833. Joseph B. Pace was on the 1850 census of Alamance Co, NC. Alamance Co. was formed from Orange Co. in 1849. I believe that this Joseph is the first son of Joseph B. Pace (Sr.) b 1762 NC and Zilpha Woodward. A Joseph B. Pace is listed as head of household on the Orange Co census from 1800 to 1840. However Zilpha is listed as head of household on the 1820 census, so the Joseph B. on the 1830 and 1840 censuses was probably Joseph B. Jr. I don't have the details for these censuses. On the 1810 census of Orange Co, Hillsboro Twp, is Joseph B. Pace, over 45 with one son under 10, consistent with the age of Joseph B. Jr., plus two females over 45. On the 1880 census of Alamance Co, NC, Pleasant Grove, Joseph B. Jr. said that his father was born in England - but I don't believe this is true. Joseph B. Pace, Sr. was a great grandson of John Pace of Middlesex who is believed to have married Elizabeth Newsome. They named a son Newsome Pace. A son of Joseph B. Pace (Jr), (Doc Pace)named a son Newsom. Newsom/Newsome is a very rare given name and appears several times among the descendants of John Pace of Middlesex. Joseph B. Pace (Sr) had a brother named Newsome. As far as I know these were the only Paces in Orange/Alamance Co during this time period. Darrell, you would be an excellent test subject for the Pace DNA study. The results should establish whether or not you are descended from John Pace of Middlesex and whether or not Joseph B. Jr. was correct about his father being from England. Go to the Pace Society of America web site for details. Gordon W. Pace ________________________________________ PeoplePC Online A better way to Internet http://www.peoplepc.com
