    3. Roy, I am a novice concerning DNA testing, but as I understand it, females are not acceptable as donors, right? I am a descendent of Twitty Pace -he was my .g.g.g.g.uncle-and I'd be happy to help if I could. Twitty Pace was the brother of Francis Pace, my ggg grandfather. So I just wanted to pass this along, I feel foolish to let everyone know how little I know about this subject! But it is amazing. 3. Don't feel foolish; everyone has to start somewhere. As I tell my classes, there is no such thing as a silly question if you don't know the answer. Genealogical studies have to use test the Y chromosome, which passes only male to male, because it is the only one that passes in pure form male to male, and male to male is the only way to follow a surname, due to our custom of passing surnames male to male. The mtdna test for females also passes in pure form. (Males have it but do not pass it on.) But it goes straight up the female line, never crossing over, since males to not pass it on. So your mtdna would go to your mother, her mother, etc., and would never hit the male or Pace side. Other DNA is impossible to trace because there is no way to tell which ancestor it came from. If you know any male Pace descendents of Francis, it would be good to get their DNA. His DNA should be identical to or closely match Twitty's. Actually you are not a descendent of Twitty, but of his brother Francis.
