When Benjamin and Elizabeth Chappell sold land formerly belonging to William Pace, they sold it to Joel Hurt. It appears that Joel Hurt's daughter Elizabeth Hurt married a William Burt. Their daughter Martha (reportedly) married a cousin Jesse Burt, and their daughter Nancy is said to be the Nancy Burt who married Elkanah Pace on 29 October 1835 (William Pace Bible, quoted in North Carolina -- South Carolina Bible Records, by Jeannette Holland Austin, p245) I don't know the parents of Elkanah Pace. I have read elsewhere that an Elkanah Pace married Eliza J. Fort; possibly two different Elkanahs, or two different marriages. James
