PACE in Minnesota & westward to Montana and Alberta Four Pace families in the north-west first: RED WING (where is it?) on Mississippi R. not far south of St. Paul RAMSEY basically St. Paul, Minneapolis in Minnesota http://pacefamilyhistory.zeropages.ca/north.htm http://pacefamilyhistory.info/north.htm take your pick, one may work, Ed Griffith, Aurora, Ontario wrote me about 10 years ago: Incidently GRIFFITH name should be of interest to some PACE researchers early 1600s PREES, Shropshire, parish reg. of St. Chad has GRIFFITH, ROLAND, THOMAS, RICHARD PACE as fathers in Christenings and Ed Griffith's 'GRIFFITH' ancestry is from nearby PREES, Shropshire (about 10-12 miles N/W in Wales) Ed's PACE people were actually from Northumberland UK so I don't know if they are related to my Paces of Shropshire and John of M line. FRANCIS JOHN GRIFFITHS - born 1843 King's Mills, Wrexham, Counties of Denbigh and Flintshire, WALES m JANE PACE - born 1855 EGREMONT, Township, GREY COUNTY, Ontario wed 26 Sept 26 1874 Toronto. Ed Griffith's WILLIAM HENRY PACE 1874-1947 - Moved from ONTARIO to MANITOBA about 1896 then to MINNESOTA. Married twice, he had 4 children from each marriage. 4 were CANADIAN and 4 AMERICAN. Said to be buried at RED WING, Minnesota + Kate wed in 1896. Interesting PACE news in Ontario A KATE PACE of North Bay, Ontario was an Olympic Skiing champ in recent years. Last week I went to Cobourg, Ont. for Commissioner of oaths to officially 'annoint' some of my papers so I may enter US due to new 9/11 fuss. "Oh! You're a PACE, I know several of them from where I come from up north" said the commissioner. Things went well with the papers. Cost only $5.00 for screutiny & ink. Bronx, New York another PACE researcher was looking for info on JANE PACE Pace Network 1997-03-03 JANE PACE - born 1855 EGREMONT, Township, GREY COUNTY, Ontario wed 26 Sept 26 1874 Toronto. + FRANCIS JOHN GRIFFITHS - born 1843 King's Mills, Wrexham, Counties of Denbigh and Flintshire, WALES ALAN REGINALD PACE, of MELBOURNE, Australia wrote 98-03-30 Regarding the Aussie PACE history ROBERT PACE, 'farmer' died in NORTHUMBERLAND, UK but his 2nd wife JANE YOUNG b 1819, d 1919 left for OZ on the "Tornado" in 1858 - buried in BACCHUS MARSH, VIC. [a rich 'market' or 'truck farming' valley 30 miles west of MELBOURNE] - OZ - Australia, for Australians. I lived in Louisville, KY for a year and had no idea that so many Paces lived in nearby states. ------ Some of this looks like a story of migration. ------ Strangely enough, the surname on the email I received last night was YOUNG. ------ Another Australian PACE descendent of this same family wrote recently: ISABELLA PACE Descendent writes from Australia Nov 14 2009 from Kate Cole Robert Pace lost his wife Margaret (Grey) in 1837, and on the English Census in 1841 it shows him and 6 children. Now he married again to Jane Young, and they had 3 children together. Robert died in 1852, so Jane decided to come to Australia in 1858 as her brothers were already over here running a flour mill in Bacchus Marsh, Victoria, Australia. With her she brought the 3 younger children of hers, and the 2 youngest of Robert and Margaret's as they were in their 20's. (Isabella's brothers, Robert and Henry. Isabella married George Davison and they had a total of 9 children in England. 2 of their sons came to Australia, Sydney & Bacchus Marsh somewhere between 1881 and 1884, probably because their Uncles were here. (Robert and Henry) Isabella and George Davison eventually came to Australia themselves in 1889, to guess where, Baccus Marsh and brought 3 children with them. There was one daughter left behind in England as she was already married to a Policeman and she was my great grandmother. Now she lost her husband in 1903 and she had 4 children to look after, so she came out to Australia as well, yep you got it Bacchus Marsh. ------ Kate says her sister, in Australia, is a writer and wants to know more about the Pace and relatives going westward, includes Alberta-Montana and Minnesota Railway History and how James Jerome Hill's house in St. Paul became headquaters of the Minnesota Historical Society. There is more interesting connected PACE family history there. It's all a good story maybe for the Montana PACE Reunion. see this impressive site with lovely slide show: http://powwowhour.blogspot.com/ Pictures will be posted of some of the pow wow's in Southern Alberta from the 2008 and 2009 pow wow season and events that are going to take place in the near future for Blackfoot activity.
