Thanks, Rebecca and Roy. I'd been to the MO Secretary of State digital files site on several previous occasions. I was able to find death certificates and other info on several family members. It's a useful resource. At 10:44 PM 5/17/2010, you wrote: >It was storming when I was writing that email and I hit send and shut down >before I typed the URL. On the Pace Society web site http://www.pacesociety.org/ there are links to several state archives and libraries. From the main page, you'll find: RELATED LINKS http://www.pacesociety.org/psalinks.html click on RELATED LINKS - in right hand column, beside the books photo now found in the yellow band at the top of the main page, On RELATED LINKS page, right side, find STATE ARCHIVES - select one a drop down menu containing links to several US State Archives and Libraries. Many of these State web sites have 'drop down menu' links which sometimes include one titled 'Genealogy and Historian' you may need to click on 'RELOAD page, REFRESH' depending on what browser your computor is using. This technical news may seem elementary to some. Computor browsers retain a copy of the web page you viewed in the past, stored in the computor's CACHE. When the computor get's shut down and started up next time, the older cashe version is cancelled, but not always, as I find out. When a webmaster uploads a new version of a web page, that you went to and viewed in the past, your browser (some of them) will retain that older version of the page you went to, prior to the updated page, and you won't see the new version until you click on RELOAD, REFRESH, found under VIEW, at the very top of your page, look for: FILE EDIT VIEW HISTORY BOOKMARKS TOOLS HELP - using Mozilla Firefox click on VIEW - find reload - click on reload FILE EDIT VIEW FAVORITES TOOLS HELP - using Internet Explorer click on VIEW - find refresh - click on refresh As a test - click on http://www.pacesociety.org/ You should see a yellow band under 'The Pace Society of America' containing many links, at top of page. If you don't see the Yellow Band at the top of the page, click on REFRESH or RELOAD under the VIEW tab. NOW you should see the YELLOW horizontal band under the main title, 'The Pace Society of America'
This is probably somewhere I should not take the discussion, and feel free to delete this, but the Missouri Sec of State website was online before Sec. Carnahan took office. Matt Blout was the Secretary of State prior to Ms. Carnahan and the site was up during his time in office. I do not know whose idea the site was but elected officals taking credit for something that was not their idea is something that has become all to common in our world. Ms. Carnahan is now running against Roy Blout (Matt's father) for US Senate. I have no idea what either one of them believe is the saluations to our problems are but we have real problems. I do not know if our problems are bigger then they have ever been or just about the same. Has the end of the world always seemed to be just around the corner? The great thing about Genealogy is we get to study the history of those who came before us. I do want to make one political statement. Most of you know I ran for Congress twice in 1996 and 1998. I got beat 70-30. When I go to different political events now, I always ask one question to whoever is running for County Clerk in whatever county I am in. I ask who was your great great Grandfather. If they do not know, I do not vote for them to keep the records of my great great Grandfather.
It was the writer of the newspaper article who attributed the site to Robin Carnahan. This is because her name appears on it as current Secretary of State. I have not seen any statement by Ms. Carnahan taking credit for originating the site. I assume that the name of the current secretary of state at any time will appear on that site. I am from Canada but was told when I was a teenager, in the tourist industry in British Columbia, watch very closely MISSOURI people and listen to what they may say. I have never forgotten that directive. The SHOW ME state. You say: > I do want to make one political statement. Most of you know I ran for Congress twice in 1996 and 1998. I got beat 70-30. Since you are on this list, would you desire to contribute your MISSOURI ancestry related to that of this forum? Gord Pace, Ontario, Canada
