My Grandfather was Catholic and his wife was named Martha (Hollis) Pace. They married in 1928 and he left. My father, Charles Francis Pace, was born 4/13/1929. I have been seeking information about his side of the family as he did not know his father. It is believed his father changed the spelling of his last name to a form of Pace, possibly Payce or Pase but I do not know for sure. Very ikely some PACE folk in the NEW ENGLAND states descend from Nova Scotia descendents of Darius and James Pace. There has always been a close economic bond between New England and the Canadian Maritime provinces so this suggests a good place to look. If Don Pace were available, he has done a lot of his NS PACE family history, back to Darius & James. Not knowing the grandfather's given names is a problem however HOLLIS which may appear to be the grandmother's maiden name, is a definite clue. One of the main streets of HALIFAX, NS is HOLLIS STREET. So the Hollis name, we can gather, is a popular name in Nova Scotia. There are people researching the PACE name of Nova Scotia. I may be able to round up someone who might know about HOLLIS in Nova Scotia. This part of Canada (the Maritimes - Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island) depended upon limited industrial activity, mainly coal mining, commercial fishing, ship building, like Samuel Cunard. Many people migrated toward the Boston area. My Bennett relatives of NS raked for oysters which were sold to the Boston trade. Gord Pace in Ontario http://www.pacefamilyhistory.info/lines/lineage0009.htm James PACE - b 1724 d 1784 St.Augustine Florida + Aurelia DUPREE - came to NS in 1784 with three sons - granted 200 acres at RAWDON NS - UEL grants act
She thinks her father might be a donor and I am waiting for her to get his approval. Her ancestors were Catholic, which is unusual for Paces. Thanks for your offer of assistance; I will forward this to her. Don't know if she is on the list. DNA may give us a clue.
