Matt, More info always helps. The Pace list and the Pace Society of America are always willing to help but it's tough if there are only a couple of generations to go on. Can you go any further back? You always need to begin by asking questions of family and relatives then start checking census and other records. Would you consider joining the Pace DNA study? This cannot give you a specific lineage but can tell you which of the general Pace lines that you wouldfit in. Information on the DNA study is at http://www.pacesociety.org/DNA/ It is not necessary to be a member of the Pace Society of America, but membership gets you a quarterly bulletin with lots of info and some great contacts to help. http://www.pacesociety.org for info. Depending on where you are searching you need to exclude words. For example in Google you can remove words with a minus sign. So for example search for: pace -blistering -fast -slow -cricket Even if the search doesn't say that it allows the minus signs, it sometimes does. Other search engines have different methods of excluding words. Some have an advanced search page with an area to write to words to exclude. In fact Google has one of these too. See the advanced search link next to the main search box. http://www.google.co.uk/advanced_search?hl=en Ant ----- Original Message ----- From: "Roy Johnson" <royj@webster.edu> To: <pace@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, December 15, 2009 2:37 AM Subject: Re: [PACE] NC Newspapers digitized Can you find a way to do a case sensitive search? Sorry if my "short hand" confused anyone. I didn't intend to mean that Portland Gordon Pace was part of the lineage. "Portland" Gordon Pace is the moderator of this list. I use that name to differentiate him from "Ontario" Gordon Pace who is also active on the list. One lives in Portland Oregon. The other lives in Ontario, Canada. Jonathan A. Addie, I'm not sure what is happening for you. What happens for me is that I go to the link, click on Collections, then Advanced Search. I then use the search form to enter a name, etc. I then get the newspaper pages that have the word(s) I searched for. I have not gotten anything on top of the images. I had hoped that there were more newspapers included, but it appears that only a few of the newspapers for North Carolina have been completed. A great find.. And it provides a realistic hitorical view of the daily lives of those folks. Regarding the discussion of Tories... does a "listing" of all those Paces who may have had their lands or property confiscated (and/or who left the area of North Carolina) exist? Sometime back, someone made a reference to that possibility, but I have not been able to find it. I know that an estimated 7000 "Tories" went to Ontario area of Canada after the revolution. If anyone has any information about any such reference work(s), I'll be happy to hear about it. Thanks! Dick Baribeau P.S. I am Still trying to find my Thomas Pace (estimated dob 1750-1760)_and his son named Solomon Pace (b. abt 1781 based on his age at date of death). He died in Quebec, Canada. Solomon's daughter, Elizabeth Pace, married my gggrandfather Michel.
