    3. Thanks Jon for letting us know and special thanks to Glen for posting New news to me. I made a copy of file as of this date. Since you can edit this public site, so it will be interesting to see what changes or what areas cause a dispute. On first reading it reads well. 3. Thanks for the compliment. I authored the bulk of the article (with many fine additions but other contributors) after noticing a dangling link to a non-existent Richard Pace article from the Chanco article. :) Glen Mark Martin > -----Original Message----- > From: pace-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:pace-bounces@rootsweb.com] On > Behalf Of Jon Pace > Sent: Wednesday, May 26, 2010 1:39 PM > To: pace@rootsweb.com > Subject: [PACE] Richard Pace of Jamestown/Chanco? > > This may be old news but I just found it. > > I know some people belittle Wikipedia, The Free Encyclopedia, but I > find > this article on Richard Pace to be the most thorough and fair of any I > have > seen. On the Pace Society web site http://www.pacesociety.org/ there are links to several state archives and libraries. From the main page, you'll find: RELATED LINKS http://www.pacesociety.org/psalinks.html click on RELATED LINKS - in right hand column, beside the books photo now found in the yellow band at the top of the main page, On RELATED LINKS page, right side, find STATE ARCHIVES - select one a drop down menu containing links to several US State Archives and Libraries. Many of these State web sites have 'drop down menu' links which sometimes include one titled 'Genealogy and Historian' you may need to click on 'RELOAD page, REFRESH' depending on what browser your computor is using. When the computor get's shut down and started up next time, the older cashe version is cancelled, but not always, as I find out. When a webmaster uploads a new version of a web page, that you went to and viewed in the past, your browser (some of them) will retain that older version of the page you went to, prior to the updated page, and you won't see the new version until you click on RELOAD, REFRESH, found under VIEW, at the very top of your page, look for: FILE EDIT VIEW HISTORY BOOKMARKS TOOLS HELP - using Mozilla Firefox click on VIEW - find reload - click on reload FILE EDIT VIEW FAVORITES TOOLS HELP - using Internet Explorer click on VIEW - find refresh - click on refresh As a test - click on http://www.pacesociety.org/ You should see a yellow band under 'The Pace Society of America' containing many links, at top of page. 2. This is probably somewhere I should not take the discussion, and feel free to delete this, but the Missouri Sec of State website was online before Sec. Carnahan took office. Matt Blout was the Secretary of State prior to Ms. Carnahan and the site was up during his time in office. I do not know whose idea the site was but elected officals taking credit for something that was not their idea is something that has become all to common in our world. Ms. Carnahan is now running against Roy Blout (Matt's father) for US Senate. I have no idea what either one of them believe is the saluations to our problems are but we have real problems. I do not know if our problems are bigger then they have ever been or just about the same. Has the end of the world always seemed to be just around the corner? The great thing about Genealogy is we get to study the history of those who came before us. I do want to make one political statement. Most of you know I ran for Congress twice in 1996 and 1998. I got beat 70-30. When I go to different political events now, I always ask one question to whoever is running for County Clerk in whatever county I am in. I ask who was your great great Grandfather. If they do not know, I do not vote for them to keep the records of my great great Grandfather.

    1. [PACE] Related Links - US State Archives, etc.

This technical news may seem elementary to some. Computor browsers retain a copy of the web page you viewed in the past, stored in the computor's CACHE. If you don't see the Yellow Band at the top of the page, click on REFRESH or RELOAD under the VIEW tab. NOW you should see the YELLOW horizontal band under the main title, 'The Pace Society of America'

    3. An article in the local paper just alerted me to a database set up by Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan with some fantastic records for those of you researching Missouri ancestors. I just hit it briefly. You have to experiment a little with how to search and read the faq on the advanced search. After several tries I put in Pace, Nicholas (my great grandfather) and found that the common makes it work. I had always assumed that my Virginia born Paces were confederate sympathizers but here is what popped up: Pace, Joseph N. Greene Springfield Statement of Pace, resident of St. Clair County, that he has never been in the rebel army. Pace states he is a constitutional man who is willing to enroll in the militia. He claims he did not enroll because he did not have an opportunity to do so. 10-01-1862 F1379 Pace, Joseph N. Saint Clair Oath of allegiance 10-05-1862 F1379 So they weren't confeds after all!
