From time to time people send messages to the PSA Guest Book their query may or may not not get answered: click on: MISSISSIPPI PACE FAMILY FROM (WEBSTER AND WASHINGTON) COUNTIES http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=message&r=rw&p=Surnames.Pace&m=1678 Drucilla Grissom/Grissam Pace...w/o Wm. She is my ancestor, and would love to obtain a photo or photo of a portrait of her if possible. Author: Anna Doone Jane Pace, s/o Rev. John Pace/ Col. Cole Digges/Diggs http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec?htx=message&r=rw&p=Surnames.Pace&m=1675 Does anyone have information on the Jane Pace who married Cole Diggs? She was the d/o Rev. John Pace. Cole Diggs was born 2-25-1791 and settled in Kentucky. I am interested in Governor Edward Digges who was born in Kent, England and married an Elizabeth Page. Wm. Herndon married Catherine Digges, the d/o Edward Digges. I am interested in Richard Herndon who supposedly had a son George Herndon who married a Sarah Wingfield. I know this is confusing but if someone has the Pace-Digges line completed it might prove if Richard Herndson was the s/o William Herndon. This work in progress and I have not connected. If anyone has information on Richard Herndon, I would appreciate hearing from you. Thank you. Ann
Hello Listers, I am interested in finding anyone that can help me find my 5th Grt- Grandparents. My 4th Grt Grandmother. Martha 'Patsy' Johnson, married Elisha Pace in Louisa Co., VA in 1806. Her father was named Thomas Johnson. Interestingly, other Johnson's also signed other marriage documents of Martha & Elisha's children: John Johnson - signed a note for Thomas Pace's proof of age for marriage. (Thomas was Elisha and Martha's 2nd oldest son) Also, Cannon Johnson - name written on back of Thomas’ note (proof of age). Cannon also signed the note as a witness for Nancy Payne’s consent note from her father John W. Payne. (Nancy was Thomas' bride). I did find a Cannon Johnson living in Fluvanna Co., VA in 1830. Then I found a Rootsweb posting on a Cannon Johnson: http:// worldconnect.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=van-one&id=I03803 The posting says that Thomas Johnson was Cannon's father - does that mean that Cannon and Martha could be sibling? Hence, the proof of age docs were signed by their uncle Cannon? And, then I noticed that frequent Pace list poster Lois Carey also posted a Post Em to that Rootsweb posting. She wrote: "Your Cannon R. Johnson is listed as one of the original members of Beaver Dam Baptist Church" - This is from " The Virginia Genealogist, Vol.14 and was contributed to the web by Mrs. James E. King of Manassas, Virginia.. Would you know of any connection the the Pace family in Fluvanna County, Va? Was Cannon's wife a daughter of Benjamin Johnson and Susannah Pace? I never heard of a Cannon Johnson anywhere else among the Fluvanna or Albemarle Johnson's." These are all the tidbits of info I have - can anyone else help connect the facts?

Roy, As a matter of general interest, what are the possibilities here? Betty Pace "New DNA results have been posted for kit number 31372. There were no surprises, as 31372 is the son of 13552 and of course matched perfectly. These results are unusual in that not only do they not match with any other Paces, but they are in Haplogroup I, the same haplogroup as John of Middlesex Paces. However, they are not a match or even close with John of M Paces. They have hit a dead end in their Pace research and DNA has not been helpful as no matches were found. Roy Johnson DNA coordinator"

I found a site that might be of interest to those interested in the relationship between Richard Pace II and his guardian, William Baugh, a jurist. Go to Bob's Genealogy Filing Cabinet II. at http://www.genfiles.com/legal/orphans.htm. He explains the nature of the Orphans Court in Colonial Virginia. He states that Any minor child whose father had died was legally an orphan, regardless of whether the mother was living. Even if the mother remarried and the child lived with its mother and stepfather, the child remained an orphan under the law. The first law covering the orphan was enacted in 1643. The duty of the adopter was, simply put, to conserve the minors property until he reached his maturity. I have been investigating my ancestors, Col. Clement Read and his wife, Mary Hill. There is an excellent reference for this, a book by Alice Riddle Read Rouse. In it, she records that a John Robinson was the guardian of both Clement and Mary. Indeed, they were married in one of John Robinsons houses. John Robinson was a member of a prominent Virginia family and a member of the government, a Speaker of the House of Burgesses. The original Robinson family house, a part of a plantation, still exists and apparently was recently on the market. The question I posed was why an individual would take on the responsibility for orphans to whom he might not be directly related. The adopter was required to post a bond with the Orphans Court, which was to insure against malfeasance, I suppose. I have concluded that the matter was one of politics. The adopter in this case was demonstrating his social position. I realize that I am stretching to reach this conclusion. Signed James R. Pace __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Dear Laouida, I spoke with your mother when you advised me of your uncle Marvin's death last year and she gave me her grandfather's name and his wife. I have posted a query in the PSA bulletin and assume that no one has contacted her with any further information. Is that correct? I have also contacted our historian to see if the Society had information on the ancestry of Marvin who was your grandfather's youngest brother - and who was President of the Society. The information that was recorded by the Society is evidently dated by when it was submitted and Val will look in Alice Lee's history under the dates he was active as president. I see that it probably was in the 1970s and 80s. She is looking to see if she has any information. I saw your recent query which listed the children of your grandfather. It is likely that the Society will not have more (though we will look) on that generation of descendants. But possibly might have information on the generations before in as much as Marvin might have known and shared. Your contact with cousins and their parents and families will probably be the best source of information for the children of Allsie. Have you looked for Marvin's father on the census records. His name was William and wife was Mary Millis Johnson Pace, and you mother had told me that he is buried in Webster Co. Is that the county he lived in? I assume so. Or did he live in Washington Co.? If I knew it would make hunting easier. I have tried looking in MS census records for the family, but without dates it is hard to know exactly where to look. I see that Marvin's father died about 1940 and that Marvin, the youngest child was born 1922. I will see if I can find the family in 1900, 1910 and 1920, 1930. If I find them I will let you know. Or maybe you have already researched the census records and, if so could let me know so I could focus on another question that you might have which isn't answered. You said you were interested in marriage dates etc. Mississippi started keeping birth and death records Nov. 1, 1912. So you might find some information in those. You can look at the Ms. State Dept. of Health, Vital Records on line at _www.msdh.state.ms.us/phs/index.htm_ (http://www.msdh.state.ms.us/phs/index.htm) The MS. Dept of Archives and History maintains microfilm copies of marriage records held in the county courthouses. I understand there is a statewide index listed by groom's name on microfilm for marriages prior to 1926. Sometimes there were fires so the records are not complete for every county. But you might check out this resource. Jane Shelton

I went to http://pacesociety.org/DNA/results.htm Under the groupings, what is the difference between groups 3b and 3b1 If there is an explanation, I couldn't find it on the web page. Betty Pace
In re-checking the DNA results chart, I found that my description at the beginning of group 3 (a and b) was not accurate. I described these paces as descendents of Richard of North Carolina. Some do claim lineage from Richard but others submit lineages to Richard's siblings. All lineages, of coursem are the opinion of the submitter. So I revised this description. The results chart is at http://pacesociety.org/DNA/results.htm I also revised the opening description and added a link to a new page demonstrating that John Pace of Middlesex is John Pace of Shropshire, brother to Gordon of Canada's George Pace. The DNA and name evidence is so strong on this point that it can hardly be denied. You can click to this page from the results page or go directly there at http://pacesociety.org/DNA/JohnGeorge.htm Roy Johnson DNA coordinator

Some of my PACE family and their 1600's 1700's relatives, emmigrated from England and may be part of your family. If your ancestry goes back in colonial US and then, drops off, maybe some of this will be of interest to you PACE & Barnett Picken Cotterell Harrison Maddocks/Maddox Groom and other surnames are in my UK PACE family and JOHN PACE (through DNA tests of descendents & myself), likely brother of my 6X gg/f GEORGE PACE showed up (JOHN PACE) in Middlesex Co VA in 1693, descendents later in Fluvanna & Goochland Co VA and later Kentucky. Perhaps it's worthwhile to gather some stuff posted on lists and maybe someone might recognise remnants of their ancestors' history as an emmigrant from one of the SHROPSHIRE or STAFFORDSHIRE families I've been studying for a while. Let's look at this: My 6X great grandparents were GEORGE PACE & ELIZABETH PICKEN (2nd wife) but the BARNETT surname is in my PACE family - two times from Shropshire & Staffordshire, England 1 - ROWLAND PACE + MARY BARNET - Marriage Date: 15 Aug 1708 Prees Shropshire M035081 http://www.phc.igs.net/~gordpace/uk/prees.htm#barnett 2 - MARY PACE Chr 3 Dec 1696 NORBURY Staffordshire d/o my Geo.Pace & 1st wife Mary/Elizabetha COTTERELL - who wed: + RICHARD BARNET - m 4 Feb 1720 of RANTON, Staffordshire their family goes on for a couple generations at: http://www.phc.igs.net/~gordpace/uk/1000.htm#barnett but George's brother JOHN PACE seemed to show up 1693 Middlesex Co VA I realize, other surnames connected to my Shropshire PACE family such as GROOM, HARRISON, MADDOX also emmigrated to the colonies. Some seemed to stay in the same Virginia counties for a few generations, upon arrival in Virginia, etc. GROOM HARRISON MADDOX also show up in Kentucky Janice Craft wrote: Does anyone know anything about this Thomas Barnett's family? I have been doing family research on my Barnett family for about fifty years and we have many missing families. Thomas lived in 1850 Lumpkin Co, Ga - 1860 Dawson Co, Ga - 1870 and 1880 in Benton Co, Ark. I have wondered if this Thomas could be a nephew of my g-g-grandfather Glenn Barnett who was born in Spartanburg Co, SC in 1795. Our family lived in Goochland Co, VA I found this on PICKENS-L@rootsweb.com Re: BARNETT & Fluvanna, VA Lorraine - writes 3/15/05: This is my Abney line: Mary Bynum Bernard b. 1789 Fluvanna, VA d/o Allen Bernard & Nancy Mitchell who was s/o Jean (John) Bernard * Elizabeth BARNETT who was s/o Jean (John) Bernard & Mary Ann Abney who was d/o Dannett Abney & Mary Lee Betty wrote 3/9/05: Lorraine, My grandfather was a Pickens and my grandmother was an Abney. These other surnames seemed to head in the same direction. GROOM & HARRISON http://www.phc.igs.net/~gordpace/records/groom.htm http://www.phc.igs.net/~gordpace/lines/groom.htm It's my hope that someone will recognise something in the history of these surnames. This site of Hertigae quest.. has wonderful info on it plus most of the Census and Rev war Men here are several ways you can join as here in Oregon I could not find a place in my area that the Liebraries carried it.. and so I got another way.. genealogical service called Heritage Quest Online for the price of a year's membership in the library at the Individual Plus rate ($45). This give you access to US census records from 1790 to 1930 for all the states, over 25,000 books on genealogy and local history on your own computer. If you want to join, http://www.rbhayes.org/membership.htm or www.rbhayes.org <http://www.rbhayes.org/> for more information.. There was an article recently in the Lexington Herald Leader about having access to Heritage Quest in your own home through the Lexington Public Library web site. I live in an adjoining county (Woodford). Called my local library and was told that I could come to the library in Versailles and have access to Heritage Quest. Then I called the Lexington Public Library and asked about a library card. Was told that I could obtain a Lexington Public Library card if I presented my Woodford Co card. I now have a Lexington Public Library card and can access Heritage Quest from my home by accessing the Lexington Public Library web site and using the numbers on my library card as my ID and password. The following is important information: ----- Original Message ----- From: Jim Payne This ABSOLUTELY applies to ALL of us who send E-mails > Do you really know how to forward E-mails? 50% of us do; 50% do NOT. Do you wonder why you get viruses or junk mail? Do you hate it? Every time you forward an e-mail there is information left over from the people that got the message before you, namely their e-mail addresses. As the messages get forwarded along the list of addresses builds, and builds, and builds, and all it takes is for some poor sap to get a virus and his computer can send that virus to every e-mail address that has come across his computer. Or, someone can take all of those addresses and sell them or send junk mail to them in the hopes that you will go to the site and he will make five cents. That's right, all of that inconvenience over a nickel! How do you stop it? Well, there are two easy steps: > 1) When you forward an e-mail DELETE all of the other addresses that appear in the body of the message That's right, DELETE THEM. Highlight them and delete them, backspace them, cut them, whatever it is you know how to do. It only takes a second. Or better yet, cut and paste the entire message into a new email, excluding everyone's information when you cut. > 2) Whenever you send an e-mail don't use the To: or Cc: columns for adding e-mail address. Always use the BCC: (blind carbon copy) column for listing the e-mail addresses. This way the people that you send to only see their own e-mail address. If you don't see your BCC: option click on where it says To: and your address list will appear. Highlight the address and choose BCC and that's it, it's that easy. Then send it to undisclosed recipients. > So please, in the future, let's stop the junk mail and the viruses! Finally, here's an idea!!! Let's send this to everyone we know. This is something that SHOULD be forwarded. > For some I am "preaching to the choir" but others have not had this explained in print. This is pretty straight forward. Pass it on to others that you know. ================ I almost deleted this before reading. I thought it was spam! I have been getting a lot of the German right wing hate mail (in German) from my Webster.edu email address, because of this new worm that is capable of picking off the email addresses of entire mailing lists, or of sending to everyone (for example) with an @webster.edu address. List owners and servers cannot combat it. It's just a nuisance, not a threat. So far, it doesn't seem to have be coming from any Pace connections. Roy Johnson
