    3. Just wanted to let everyone know that my Pace line through Quintella daughter of Edmond Marion to Richard of Jamestown has been approved by Colonial Dames XVII Century using Bruce Howard's book as proof from Edmond Marion back to Richard. Their genealogist loved the book and wants to get a copy for the CD library in Washington DC. Charlotte Hazel

    1. Silas Pace -- locations
    2. I thought that Silas Pace moved from NC to SC in 1758 or thereabouts, and after that they moved back and forth across the SC/GA line. I think this is from "The Pace Family 1607-1750". "Silas Pace moved his family from North Carolina to South Carolina about 1758, later moved with Silas' father, Richard Pace, to an area about 13 miles NE of present day Augusta, Ga. In 1761 they moved back to South Carolina at the outbreak of the Cherokee War. They stayed in South Carolina for 2 years then moved again to the Savannah River, 25 miles from Augusta. " If correct, it seems to confirm that Silas's son John probably wasn't born in NC. There's some commentary on Silas's movements during this period in the Avant book. Unfortunately my copy was lost while moving house so I can't refer to it at the moment. Ellen

    3. Sammy, it not unsual for a guy to go to where his bride is in GA and marry her and take her back to his home in NC ..but I know that No proof ...would be nice if those that have proof of these guys below to help you out (((grin))) Also need to tell you my index leaves name off so this is not totally accurate as I know there was a George Pace that married a Sarah Walker in Wake Co NC and they appear in in 1807 Clay Co Ky and is on the 1810 Clay Co Ky Cen age 45 years & Older but maybe he was in his father HH still On my 1790 Index list there are 22 Pace in NC and I took the time to look at each one of them, Looking in the 2nd column which lists males 16 and under I know your John would have been 6 years old in 1790 so I picked out all Pace's who had Children 16 & under does not help much but give you and Idea who to ck out to see if they have a son born abt 1784 So all theses are possibility but remember col 2 is male child 16 & under and yours was age 6 North Carolina Pace's 1790 George Pace 1-2-4- Nash Co this guy does not appear on NC 1800 Cen or Any George anywhere on my 1800 Index all States George Pace 1-1-1 Franklin Co This guy does not appear on NC 1800 Cen Hardy Pace 2-2-3 Northampton Co this guy does not appear on NC 1800 Cen altho a Hardy appears on Chatham Co 1810 James Pace 2-3-3 Wake Co on 1800 Cen Wake Co Nc Stephen Pace 1-2-4 Edgecombe Co this guy maybe on the Johnston Co NC 1800 Cen John Pace 1-2-4 Edgecombe Co He maybe the JOhn in Wake Co NC Wm Pace 1-6-1Franklin Co His There is a William also a Jemima Pace on 1800 Cen John Pace 2-1-2 Franklin Co There is still a John on the 1800 Cen Stephen Pace 2-3-5 Anson Co There is now A Stephen Sr & Jr 1800 Cen Thomas Pace 2-2-3 Halifax Co No Thomas Pace on 1800 Cen NC Edmund Pace 1-1-3 Surry Co he is on the 1800He did have a son John but most seem to think born in the 1790's altho the 1810 Surry co Census show b-1784- to 1794 he married Elizabeth Pigg March 11, 1809 Surry Co NC using the 1784 he would have been age 25 when married so possible but I think the 1794 date is too young he would have been only 15 years old when married... and I did research this guy out but my memory is horrible and Miles prob has the most accurate on this family..as he does not put down unless he has something to back it up .. I do know he followed his father Edmund to some place's seem like Tn. Ala, and Edmund died I believe in MS ..So you might want to ck this John out more... Sarah Pace Widow of John Pace appears on the 1790 Cen with 2 females not on the 1800 Cen some say she died in 1791 and her land went to Edmond/Edmund abv So Sammy lots of Cking out ... Darlene

    3. Darlene, I cannot be certain that John, son of Silas, is not my John. But my John was born in NC circa 1784 per the 1850 Marion County, MS census. Since Silas married Mary Newsome in GA in 1774, I would think it unlikely, though not impossible, that they somehow were in NC when John was born. 2. I don't know whether there is any clear proof that the Silas Pace I descend from (the one who m. Elizabeth Foreman) was the same person as Silas Pace, son of the Silas Pace who m. Mary Newsome. It's generally assumed to be so, but I don't know if it has been proved. I have never done any MO research and wondered if anyone on this list could give me some tips on URLs or address to write. Any help would be appreciated. Nina Williams WA State

    1. Re: [PACE-L] Silas Pace -Washington Co Mississippi Terr. Tax Roll - 1803
    2. Interesting. Another site (http://www.trackingyourroots.com/data/1805tax.htm) shows Silas Pace on the 1805 Washington County taxable property list, worth $38. A Silas Pace of Washington County (and a John Pace, and a long list of other names) signed a petition in 1809. http://nicholsb.tripod.com/washcopet1809.html. Presumably the John Pace who signed the petition in 1809 is the same one who appears on the 1810 tax rolls for Washington County. Sophronia Pace, daughter of Silas Pace, married Andrew M. Harris on 19 June 1839 in Choctaw County, AL (formed from Washington County). Gillum Pace married Elizabeth Bennett on 8 Jan 1835. (http://www.rootsweb.com/~alccgs/agwed.PDF) I'm descended from Silas Pace who m. Elizabeth Foreman, and who is presumed to be the son of the Silas who m. Mary Newsome. I would be interested to know how this Washington County Silas fits into the picture. Ellen

    3. On the topic of those AL-MS Paces, this site: http://members.aol.com/JordanJM2/1803TaxRoll.htm lists a Silas Pace on the 1803 Personal Tax Roll of Washington Co, Mississippi Territory. Does anyone know who this is and if he is related to those other Paces who appear on the 1810 territorial census? He is the earliest Pace that I have found in records in that part of AL-MS. 3. Looks like it might have been Nash Co.,NC, judging by the message board. You might go to Linkpentiium and check to see if there is a lookup volunteer for Nash Co. marriages. 3. Joe and Sammy Washington Co Mississiippi was not formed until 1817 Sammy what Census in 1810 you say your Pace 's were found were they possibly in Yazoo Co or Warren Co MS in 1810 ? Washington County was formed under the First Mississippi Constitution (1817-1832) on January 29, 1827, largely from the western part of Yazoo County and also from the northern part of Warren County. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Janders 45" <janders45@hotmail.com> To: <PACE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, October 22, 2005 7:39 AM Subject: RE: [PACE-L] NC Paces > Ah, yes, those mysterious Paces of SW Alabama! 3. Ah, yes, those mysterious Paces of SW Alabama! Or, the Clarke County, Alabama, Paces since Clarke County was derived from Washington County, Mississippi Territory. Sammy, I want to encourage you to contibute some DNA to the Pace Y-chromosome study which is confined to males of the surname Pace. This could help you to firm up your ancestry and also help the rest of us in our quest to resolve the Frederick Pace of Wales vs John Pace of Surry County, NC, controversy. I am descended from Elizabeth Pace, daughter of William Pace of Clarke County (apparently a different William than yours as mine was born in 1759 in NC or 1757 in Wales, or ? in ?), and I am very interested in seeing a resolution of this question. I'm under the impression that the John Pace who is listed in the Washington county census of 1810 died in Clarke County, AL, in about 1820. All the more reason that DNA results would be useful here. Many people who contribute to this list are much more knowlegeable than I am, and I will be very interested in the responses that you get from them. Pace. Per the 1850 Marion County, MS federal population census they were both 66 and born in NC. This would place their births circa 1784 in NC. 1. Paces in Benton Co. Arkansas
    2. Joyce
    3. Recently I stopped by the Benton Co. AR county courthouse for a quick visit while on vacation. Saw a few Paces in the old records. I believe these are from the Henning Pace line. If anyone's interested, contact the court clerk's office. They said they could mail copies from their microfilm. - Gideon G. Pace, county sheriff, was indexed several times, selling land in the 1840s. I have read elsewhere that he was a son of Henning Pace. (Didn't Henning also have a brother named Gideon?) - Alsey Pace and wife Mary sold land in 1841 (Deed Book A). There's an "A. Pace" listed in the 1840 census, age 30-40-perhaps it's this Alsey. Federal land records indicate Alsey Pace was also granted land in 1843 in Benton Co. near the land of Christopher S. Pace. Other Paces also were in Benton Co..this was a whirlwind visit and I was primarily looking for a different surname. Just posting this so if anyone doesn't have these records they could pursue it further with Benton Co. AR courthouse. - Joyce Harris
