    3. I am descended from Thomas Pace of NC through his son Nathaniel Pace who married Mildred Boykin. They were the parents of 12 children and the youngest child, Harriet, married John McArthur, and they became my great great grandparents. Noble Hamilton Pace, on page 55 in his book "Pace, One of America's Earliest Emigrant Families", shows a Bible Record of Nathaniel and Mildred Pace with information I cannot find anywhere else. Does anyone know who has the original Bible? I would greatly appreciate any information anyone can give me on the Bible or anything else on this part of the Pace family. Amma C. 3. Hi Roy, Found this in the archives, is this what you were looking for? Bye for now, Kathleen ========================================== Date: Mon, 7 Nov 2005 10:33:07 -0500 From: Charles Hartley <hartley@iglou.com> To: PACE-L@rootsweb.com Message-Id: <p0623094abf952166da72@[10.0.1.2]> Subject: Shropshire Long Ago If you are among those of us who claim John of Middlesex as our ancestor, or even if you are not, you may be interested in the Brother Cadfael series of mysteries set in Shropshire in the mid 1100's when Stephen and Maud were contending for the throne of England. Written by Edith Mary Pargeter under the pen name of Ellis Peters, this series of stories follows the mystery-solving activities of a crusader-turned-monk of the abbey of Saint Peter and Saint Paul in Shrewsbury, a town in north-central Shropshire. While the focus is on solving the mystery, Pargeter has done a remarkable job of describing the life and times of 12th century Shropshire. To locate these books, visit your favorite bookstore (online or brick and mortar) and search for Cadfael or for Ellis Peters. There are 20 novels written in chronological order (I'm presently on #11) as well as one book of three short stories including one that tells how Cadfael became a monk. Hope you find this interesting. 3. Thanks to all who sent me the info on English novels. I have ordered a couple, will probably order more later. I love historical novels, especially English. An excellent series is by Thomas Costain, covering English history from the 1066 Norman conquest through the last of the Plantagenet kings (1485 when Henry Tudor (Henry VII, father of Henry VIII, grandfather of Elizabeth I) became King. Titles: Titles: The Conquerors, The Magnificent Century, The Three Edwards, The Last Plantagenets. I think they are out of print but you can find them used. Roy Johnson

This is exciting as, as far as I'm concerned, brings life to the JOHN of Middlesex family ancestry. Recently, I went to the LDS FamilySearch.org web site and looked for MADDOX in the parish of St. Chads at PREES, Shropshire. To my surprise, there were several dozen MADDOX Christenings, marriages. I found the same for WRIGHT and GROOM and some others. There is, of course, some desire for elusive immigration records of John of Middlesex to Virginia around the year 1690 or before. The presence of these other surnames seems to give some credibility that JOHN PACE was not alone when he crossed from England to America. This may become a new phase of PACE Ancestry research, where we can look to the surnames in Shropshire and then possibly find the same people in Colonial America. I was in the process of collecting and listing these Shropshire, MADDOX, WRIGHT, GROOM and other surnames on web pages so others could look and possibly find similarities of given names of these surnames lists, in both SHROPSHIRE and Colonial AMERICA. Recently upgraded from Windows 98 to XP and will be a while to figure out all the fuss that goes with this. GTPace - Canada
