    3. DNA results are in for Darren Pace, who submits the lineage at the end of this document. Sorry about the format but I think it is legible. The puzzling thing is that Darren does not match any other Paces in the database. I have not uploaded the results yet, as I am in the country 300 miles from my home, and the upload is very slow from my modem connection here. Since the results are a complete non-match (6 or 7 alleles different out of 25, some by a genetic distance of 2), it is less important to post it now. What is important is to help Darren sort out the mystery, and perhaps some of you may help. Maybe you know something about this purported lineage. Can anyone spot a glitch? It obviously cannot be correct. I have been saying that a mismatch could be due to three things-unknown Pace line, unreported adoption, or illegitimacy. But I forgot a fourth thing: A name change, such as Pass-Pace, Pees-Pace, or several of the spellings that I encountered in England which may or may not be related to our Pace name: Paise, Payce, Paice, etc. I don't know if Darren monitors this list, so please copy to him at darren@paceroots.com Roy Johnson DNA coordinator 0. 3. I wonder if this Mims family is linked to Samuel Mims on whose land the infamous Ft. Mims massacre occurred in Baldwin Co, AL, in 1813? This was one of the largest massacres of white settlers by Indians in American history, but few have heard of it other than those who grew up in Alabama and studied Alabama history in high school. Some 250 to 500 white settlers were killed in Ft Mims by Creek Indians in late August of 1813. The response by Andrew Jackson, with TN and GA militia, went a long way toward destroying the Creek nation. http://www.canerossi.us/ftmims/massacre.htm Paces were in the area at the time with John and Dempsey Pace (sons of Frederick Pace of Wales or John Pace the Tory - choose your favorite) not too far up the river in adjacent Clarke County. During this time, one or both of the brothers, with their families, took refuge in the Turner stockade very near to where I grew up. After the massacre, it is likely that they left that small stockade and waited at the larger fort at St. Stephens until it was safe to return home. One of his descendents was a Robert Mims, son of Lionel Mims who was born abt.1685 in St.Peter's Parish, New Kent, Virginia and died about 1732 in Bertie County, North Carolina Also mentioned is a Benjamin Mims , b .before June 13, 1710 in New Kent County. He mentioned Judith Woodson. The Woodson family was later in Goochland, and Fluvanna Counties and married into the Pace families. 3. This past week I was helping proof a document transcription for the Pace Society document database that has a mention of a David Mimms. David Mimms was a purchaser at the Edgecombe Co., NC estate sale of William Pace recorded at the August 1748 court. I don't know if there is any connection at all as I have not studied the Mimms family. 3. Back in 1998 on the Pace Forum # 265 there was posted a message by a Britta B. Harris. She was looking for information about Sidney Branford Pace, a grgrandson of Thomas Shores of Fluvanna Co. Va She referenced a letter written by Edw. S. Lewis of St. Louis, Mo She also mentioned that someone had contacted a Miss Lucy Stone Hollins in Roanoke, Va I believe Sidney Branford Pace was the son of Jesse Pace whose birth was reported by his grandmother Cecelia Johnson Pace Bugg. I cannot find my Fluvanna Co.birth records which were sent to my by Jackie whitworth and were Handwritten. Cecelia married a Samuel Bugg after Jesse death and they had many children. I believe she and Jesse were married in Goochland County,Va. There seems to be a great mystery about this Jesse which she married And how he died and also used the Sidney. America Virginia Shores b. abt. 1845, died May 1881 married Sidney Willard Pace. I believe they ended up living in Roanoke, Va and that he was a son of Sidney Branford Pace Can anyone find anything more about the Jesse Pace who married Cecelia Johnson and who this Edward S.Lewis was of St. Louis, MO who was inquiring about Sidney Branford Pace in 1927

    3. Unfortunately, "Cosby Alonzo" Pace's death certificate indicates his parents are "unknown". But it does list his birthplace as Macon, Georgia on 1 August 1878. His widow's name was Dovie Stewart Pace, and she was the informant. Cosby Alonzo Pace had lived in Bolton, Shelby Co., TN for 44 years when he died on 17 Nov 1944, so he moved there about 1900. 1. New DNA posting; error corrections
    2. Roy Johnson
    3. (1) New 37 marker posting for kit number 10265. No surprises; still a perfect match with other group 3a submitter (2) Ruth Christenson has pointed out some errors in the Results table. Kit 6280 had an error in marker 23, 16 should have been 15. This is only significant in that I had the two descendents of Burrell Pace as having the same mutation in this allele; now it appears that they do not. There were also errors in 38697, a submission that does not match any other Paces, and after corrections of the errors, 38697 is still not a match for anyone else. Roy Johnson DNA coordinator

    1. Alonzo Cosby Pace
    2. Gordon W. Pace
    3. Thanks to the information from Darlene and Charlie, it appears that the ancestry of Lynn Beard (DNA Kit #57109) is connected to a fairly well-established line of descent, as follows: 1. Richard Pace of Jamestown, ca 1620 2. George Pace of Jamestown 3. Richard Pace II b 1637 Charles City Co, VA, m. Mary Baker b. 1640. 4. Richard Pace III, b. 1661 Charles City Co, VA. m. Rebecca (Poythress) b. 1672. 5. Thomas Pace b. 1704 Albemarle Co, VA, m. Amy b. 1708 6. Nathaniel Pace b. 7/16/1743 Northampton Co, NC m. Mildred Boykin 7. William Pace b. 9/28/1788 Camden Dict SC m. Nancy Moses b. 1807 8. Hiram M. Pace b. 1829 GA m. Laura (2nd wife) b. 1854 GA 9. Alonzo Cosby Pace b. 1878 Cochran, GA (was age 1 on 1880 Twiggs Co, GA census.) Note that Hiram's first son, William Nathaniel Pace was named after his father and paternal grandfather. Nathaniel named his first son, Thomas, after his father and Thomas named his first son Jr., but named his second son, Richard, after his father. The pattern of migration for this lineage was Charles City Co, VA to Albemarla Co, VA to Northampton Co, NC, to Camden District, SC, to Pulaski Co, GA, to Wilkinson Co, GA to Jackson Co, FL, to Laurens Co, GA and to Twiggs Co, GA. Pulaski Co, Laurens Co, Wilkinson Co and Twiggs Co GA are all pretty much adjacent to each other. The above lineage is consistent with the known lineages for the Group 3A on the Pace DNA Results page. Gordon W. 3. There is an Alonzo Pace, age 1, in the 1880 census for Twiggs County GA, son of Hiram and Laura Pace. There was also an Alonzo Pace, age 3 months in that census for Paulding County GA, son of John and Nancey S. Pace. One of them might be the one you seek.
