This is a long shot , but the names and dates are similar. My ancestor Phillip GRINDER was born in 1761 (place unknown) and died in Butler Co, Pa in 1825. I am trying to connect him to the folks you mention on the Carbon board. I read somewhere that he was looking for millstones when he discovered the anthracite coal. Was his mill a grist mill or a sawmill?? I am supposing that the name could have been altered in Western Pennsylvania considering that he was a miller (grinder). Let me know what you all think of this possibility. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
