They come of English stock, the first of the name in America emigrating from England prior to the Rev.,in which struggle he served as a soldier under Washington. He died at his home, near Lebanon, PA., within a month after returning from the War, leaving a wife and a son, John. This John Winters was born Nov 21, 1776. After reaching manhood he settled in Lancaster county, making his home in the village of New Holland, where for many years he was engaged as a blacksmith. On Jan 16, 1769, he married Catharine Diefenderffer, who died July 12, 1843, and his death occurred July 13, 1850. They had seven children; John, Isaac, Maria, Ludwig, Levi, Margaretha, and Cyrus. Winter, MD, was born Nov. 23, 1828 n Hinkletow. On Jan 10, 1845 he married Susan Martin, who was born in Goodville in 1833, d/o John and Elizabeth (Bowman) Martin, Children; Barton M., and John Leaman. Dr. Isaac Winters passed away Nov. 7, 1889. Barton M. Winter, MD, of Goodville, was born Dec 11, 1854. On Jan 20, 1882, he married Salinda Sensing,who was born in Goodville, d/o Christian and Catharine Sensing. They have one child, Sue L.. Winters, Walter L., subject, of East Drunmore township, Lancaster Co., was born in Providence Aug 6, 1860, s/o Silas and Catharine (Marks) Winters. Silas Winters was born July 5, 1821 and his wife, Catharine Marks was born in York County. Silas Winters, was the son of Christopher and Esther (Gochenauer) Winters, both of whom were born in Lancaster county and came from German parentage. Christopher Winters was located near Providence, when his wife died, he moved West, where he died leaving 2 sons, and 1 daughter. Augustus died single, Hetty, married William Gontner, they died leaving two daughters (Catharine, and Mary); Silas. Christopher Winter, grandfather, was born in Berks Co., he lived to be 97, (1800-97)he is buried at Bellman's Church His wife's maiden name was Rick and they had 9 children; William, John, Christian, R. Charles, Frank, Cyrus, Malinda, Elizabeth and Lavina. Christopher R. Winter, was born in 1820, he married Susanna Dundore, they had 7 children; Matilda, married Miles Royer of IL., Mary married Oliver Horning, Katie, married David Mengel, James lived in MO., William, unmarried, John of Reading, married Louisa Kaufaman, Mahlon D., married Lizzie Ernst, d/o Emanuel and Priscilla (Klopp) Ernst.
