Mahoning township, Carbon Co Robert McDaniel, married Elizabeth Hicks, she was born in 1766, and is said to have been a native of Lizzard Creek, and when very young was placed in the charge of William Thomas, who lived near where the Ben Salem Church stands. No other knowlege of the Hicks family is obtained. They died there, and where buried in the Ben Salem churchyard. Children; Rachel,married Charles Haney and settled in the township and Mrs. Henry Arner was a daughter; Nancy, maried Samuel Solt and settled in Lehigton; Lydia,married Joseph Mussleman, and moved to Ohio, Oliver, a son, remained with his grandfather and taught school, he later moved to Ohio; Elizabeth, became to wife of Christian Klotz, who came from Lohill, Lehigh county; Robert,moved West; and James, the youngest son, settled in the township, and died there. His son, J. T. McDaniel keeps theFreyman Hotel and is the postmaster. The following persos on the assessment roll of East Penn in 1808. Andrew Beck, John and Abraha Freyman, Robert McDaniel, Peter, Henry, and John Notestine, Peter Musselman Klotz, Christian, was born in Lowhill township, Northampton, now Lehigh Co. May 14, 1789. a miller by trade, and about 114, came to the Landing Tavern, on the Lehigh River, and for a year or two was at work raftng and in the mill. In the year 1816, he went up the Mahoning Creek, and obtained work in the mill on the site of the Gilbert Mill. In that year, he married Elizabeth, the daughter of Robert McDaniel and lived a short distance from the mill. He remained at the mill till about 1823, when he built a mill on Pine Creek, now known as Happes mill-site, and moved his family. At this place his wife died, Nov 26, 1826, aged 31 leaving 5 children, Ammon, Robert, Charlotte, Anna, and Joseph Ammon and Anna who married __ Grover, settled in Franklin township. Charlotte, married __ Yost. Joseph of Pittson, Luzerne Co. and Robert lived at Mauch Chunk. Christain Klotz married a second wife, by whom he had serveral children. He died at Lehighton, March 12, 1848, aged 59, and was buried by the side of this first wife in the Moravian Cemetery. John, Jacob and Daniel Klotz, brothers of Christian, came to the Mahoning Valley and settled. John died in Lehighton in 1828. Jacob and Daniel lived and died in Mahoning township. Klotz, Christian, son of John and Franconia (Krouse) Klotz, was born in 1789, and about the year 1814, left his native Lowhill twp, and settled in Mahoning township, Carbon Co. He in 1816 he married Elizabeth McDaniel, d/o Robert and Elizabeth (Hicks) "MacDaniel", a QQuakeress. Among their children was Robert. Robert Klotz, second son of Christian, was born in Northampton, now Carbon County, Oct 27, 1819. At 24 he was elected the first register and recorder for Carbon Co. In 1846 he enlisted in the Mexican War, as a Lt of Co. K. 2nd PA Vols. On his return in 1848, he was elected to the PA Legislature, re-elected in 1849. In 1854, he moved to Kansas. He returned to his native state in 1857 and in 1859 he was elected treasurer of Carbon Co. He married in 1849 to Sallie A. Lentz, d/o Col. John and Mary (Loester) Lentz, of Carbon County. One child, Lentz Edmund, marrid Emma E. Laubach, d/o Hon. Joseph Laubach, of Bethlehem, and resided in Mauch Chunck. One child, Robert Klotz.
