The Rev. breaking out, he joined as a soldier, and at the battle of Brandywine was made a prisoner by a body of Hessians and confined with 900 others in prison at Phila. Through the influence of his cousin, Joseph Galloway, the superintendent of police, he was discharge from confinment. In the spring of 1778 he married Dorothy Smith, and moved to the city. After a residence there of several years he lost his wife, and in the spring of 1794, he moved with his children to Springfield. In 1802 he married Ann Williams, of Buckingham. He died Dec 15, 1841, aged 85, and was interred in Friends burying grounds. Jacob Ritter, 1751-1841, a minister among Friends for 50 years. " A Journal, edited by Joseph Foulke, of Gwynedd, to which is appended a Memior of his Life," was published in 1822 Ritter, Grover D., of Reading, Berks Co., was born Oct 27, 1889, in Bethlehem, PA, s/o Thomas B. and Lena (Mosenbach) Ritter. His father was also a native of Bethlehem, served 37 years on the Bethlehem police force. On April 19, 1914, Grover D., married Clara Anne Sheidy of Reading, PA, d/o Charles and Maria Sheidy. Children; one son, John Thomas, born May 13, 1923. Northampton Co. Assessment of Salisbury township, 1812, Martin Ritter, Henry Ritter, Martin Ritter. Ritter, Martin, a native of Upper Milford township, married Margaret Steininger, and, about 1750, purchased 700 or 800 acres, in what is now Salisbury township. This land is now owned (1884) Solomon B. Reuben B., and Hiraim Ritter, Milton Appel, and Benneville Fenstermach. He died about 1826, and left 6 sons and 1 daughter. Henry, Martin, John, Daniel, Jacob, Michael, and Margaret who married Solomon Klein of Allentown. The sons all settled on the original tract of land and died there at advanced ages. Their sons and daughters now living (1884) are as follows, Henry Ritter, Rebecca, who married Peter Klein, and Sally who married Peter Keck, are members of Henry. Of Marin, Reuben B., Jacob B., Elizabeth, Sally Annaa, Solomon B., reside in Allentwon. John B., Martin B., of South Whitehall township and Charles B. of Whitehall. Mary Anna, the wife of Jacob Laudeslager lived in Emaus. John's family are Reuben K., in Salisbury, Daniel of Allentown, Levi, in Upper Milford, Martin in South Bethlehem, Elizabeth, married Joseph Kern, of Upper Milford, Matilda and Mary Ann, Allentown Daniel's family are Gideon, of Emus, Daniel of Bethlehem, Joel in Coopersburg, Eliza, married Roham Shuler, Rebecca, married John Seems. Jacob had a son, Nathan, of Macungie township. Michael's family; his wife; Angeline who married Addison Mory, Amanda who married Jacob Hildebeitel, Aravaesta unmarried, Benjamin of Macungie, Tilghman of Lower Milford, Wilson of Pennsburg, Sylvanus of Emaus. , Ritter, Stewart D. JP, was born June 20 1859, in Northampton County, s/o Benjamin Ritter, and his wife, Mary A. Frankenfield, natives of Bethlehem township. The Ritter family were early settlers of Bethlehem township. The great-grandfather emigrated to America, coming directly to PA, and Northampton County has been the home of his descendant up till the present day. Capt. Daniel Ritter, the grandfather, was an officer in the War of 1812, and he died at age 80. Stewart D. married Nov 13, 1884 to Alice T. Snyder, d/o Adam of Berlinsville. Children; one child, Chauncey S., born Oct 31, 1893. Ritter, Thomas H., born March 22, 1859, in Freemansburg. His great-grandfather Henry Ritter was born in that village, where he kept a hotel. His wife who died at age 86, was a devoted Lutheran to which faith he also adhered. Lewis Ritter, father of Thomas H., was born in Rittersville. He was accidentally killed by a train. He married Mary Henn, who was born in Lower Saucon, d/o George Henn. Children; Gerge, Ellen, married __ Knipe, Thomas H., and Oscar. Thomas H., on the 16th of March, 1879, married Dora Keiper, d/o Jacob. Children; Emily, Raymond, and Robert. Ritter, Thomas, was born in Lehigh County, May 9, 1808, s/o Hon. Michael and Margaret (Orner) Ritter. The father was the founder of Rittersville. He died March 17, 1854. Thomas, died in 1881, preceded in death by his wife, Anna Maria Queer, d/o Christian Queer. who died 1881. Children; Three but only Sarah M. survived. The other two were Amelia and Asher T.
