Hi, this may or may not make sense now, or ever, but better to have than have not. Price, Eleazer, subject. To a lineage which antedates the Rev. War the subject of this sketch added luster by heroic sevice during the Civil war. He was a farmer and lumberman of Barrett township, Monroe County. The ancestral history of Mr. Price is rich in historic events. His great-grandfather, John Price, was a native of Bucks Co, of English extraction, and a Quaker. He came to Monroe County in 1765, and was one of the few forturnate settlers who excaped the Indian raids and massacres which occured on Brodhead's Creek, near the place he had settled. During those troublesome days John Price concealed his family until the savages had departed. On Brodhead's Creek he cleared up a small farm and here he remained through life. Mr. Price passed his days earning a living, and he passed away at a good old age. He had a large family, the seven sons being as follows; Charles, who was killed at FORT PITT during the War of 1812; Ichabod, who was killed at FORT MEIGS; Joseph, who moved to Ohio; John, married and lived on Brodhead's creek; Benjamin, who settled in Price township; Samuel of Barrett township; Eleazer, the grandfather, of Price townhip. Eleazer Price, was born in what is now Price townshi in 1785. He married Rachel Drake and he was killed by a train near Stroudsburg. Children; Maria, married Jacob Henry,and settled in Pocono; Hulda, married Nathan Chitister and settled in Calhoun Co., Mich; Phyla, wife of Charles Price of Barrett township, Charles J. (father); Anna, wife of James Mayo, settled in Calhoun Co., Mich; William, of Barrett township, and later in Mich.; Perry; Joseph who lived with his son-in-law, Charles Bush, in Price township. Charles J. Price, father, was born in Price township, Oct 29, 1814. He married Susan Yetter, who was born in Smithfield in 1818. He died in 1895. Children, 1. Mathais, born 1837, srv Co F. 4th Regt. 2. Emery, born 1840, srv Co. D of the PA Artilery, wounded, he married Sarah A. Posten. 3. Eleazer, subject, 4. Abram, born 1845, married Sarah A. Mole, of Wayne Co, and had 3 children (Edith, Elsie and Alice); 5. Francis M., born 1847, married and lived in Sullivan Co., PA.; 6. Sylvester, born 1850, married Estella Clark and they had (Austin, Percy, and Russell), 7. William, born 1852, died as a young man. 8. Lafayette, born 1852, married Anna Schroeder of Strousburg and had 8 children ( Zola ., Francie S., Charles, William, Lulu, Harry, Willard, and Eva. Eleazer Price, was born in Barrett township, Aug 28, 1842. Enlisted Co. D. PA Artilery. He married Julia Mole, d/o William, of Sterling township, Wayne Co. His wife died in April 1873 leaving children. (Rufus L., Lyman N. and Annie J.) Rufus L., was born Jan 1870 and moved to Springfield, Mass., unmarried. Lyman was born April, 1872,and lived in Barrett township; Annie born March, 1873, wife of William F. Monies, and he worked in Pittson. In Aug, 1877, subject married Mrs. Elisabeth Brown, of Monroe county, and they had a son, Ira S. born June 1878 Mrs. Elizabeth Price died in Nov, 1883. Later he married Miss Mary E. Deubler of Barrett township. Member of the Methodist Church. Bucks Co. Price, James, a consideralbe landowner in Maidenhead township, near the present site of Lawrenceville, NJ, as early as 1698. He was commissioned lt. of provincial militia, March 19, 1714, and his son John Price was a captain in the provincial service during the colonial wars and died in Hopwell in 1772, leaving sons, John, James and David and several daughters, one of whom was married to James Slack of Hunterdon Co. James married in 1732 married Elizabeth Ely, d/o George Ely of Trenton, in 1737, and had one son, George. David Price, suppossed to have been a son of James of Maidenhead, He was a large landowner in Hopewell, NJ, and in 1756 purchased 200 acres of land in Middletown township and died there in 1765, leaving two sons, Nathan and James and four daughters, Rebecca married Daniel Price of Kingswood, NJ., doubtless a descendant of Benjamin Price, who settled in Elizabethtown, NJ, in 1677, whose son Daniel, was the sheriff of this county in 1692, Eleanor, married Benjamin Stackhouse of Bucks Co. in 1761. Sarah who died single; and Susannah, married Joseph "Mahr" of Northampton county. James Price, 2nd son, married to Sarah Hudleston, of Middletown and died there. Nathan Price was a resident for some years a resident of Bucks county, but moved to Kingswood, Hunterdon county, NJ., prior to 1775. He is said to have married a daughter of Timothy Smith, sheriff of Bucks county, 1728-39 and 1737-9. Children; John, Rebecca, Smith, Elizaeth, Sarah, Phebe, James and David. Best Wishes, Geri
