I'm going to be in Carbon co. the first weekend in Oct. I'm only going to be there for one morning, so thought I'd take a few grave stone photos of my husband's family. Problem is I don't know where they are buried!! County archives isn't much help as none of my people died in the time frame they have records for!! The only clue I have is a first communion at a St. Peters Church in May of 1925 [ Hubbie's Mom and she died a few years before I started doing genealogy...sigh]. I assume its a catholic church. She lived in Nesquehoning. The only church I could find on the web was St. Peter and Paul in Lehighton. Does anyone have any ideas for me? What other catholic churches/cemeteries are in/near Nesquehoning? I have checked all the cemeteries that are online for Carbon Co....no luck! I talked with the Librarian at Dimmick Library and will probably spend the morning looking for obits.....if I can't find the graves/cemeteries. The surnames I'm looking for are Crossin [various spellings], Hogan, McGorry, and Kennedy. Dear Betty, I may have some information for you regarding churches in Carbon Co. I did some research there 12 years ago. Unfortunately, all my files are now in my garage due to a remodeling project. But I will try to find them and send you what I have. I seem to remember that there were 2 Catholic churches of interest to me: Sacred Heart and St. Joseph's. One was in Nesquehoning and one was in Summit Hill, but I can't remember which was which. My grandmother came from those areas. I also have Crossen info, if you want it. My great great grandfather was a Crossen from Ireland. I don't have much more info on him other than the census info. I know he came from Ireland but don't know where exactly. I will try to find more infor for you as soon as I am able. There is a Church on the edge of Carbon Co. by Luzerne in Beaver Meadows that records have burned, a Byzantine Church, St. Peter And Paul. Much older than their Catholic Church St. Mary's. I have not looked into it yet myself- Read about it in the Carbon journals.
