There is a Church on the edge of Carbon Co. by Luzerne in Beaver Meadows that records have burned, a Byzantine Church, St. Peter And Paul. Much older than their Catholic Church St. Mary's. I have not looked into it yet myself- Read about it in the Carbon journals. Dear Betty, I may have some information for you regarding churches in Carbon Co. I did some research there 12 years ago. Unfortunately, all my files are now in my garage due to a remodeling project. But I will try to find them and send you what I have. I seem to remember that there were 2 Catholic churches of interest to me: Sacred Heart and St. Joseph's. One was in Nesquehoning and one was in Summit Hill, but I can't remember which was which. My grandmother came from those areas. I also have Crossen info, if you want it. My great great grandfather was a Crossen from Ireland. I don't have much more info on him other than the census info. I know he came from Ireland but don't know where exactly. I will try to find more infor for you as soon as I am able. Dear Folks: I have worked many years on my Dunn family history and I am nearly finished. I have traced them from Scotland in 1785 to Cape Breton 1830s - 1843 to Pennsylvania 1843 - 1852 to North Carolina 1852 - 1866 and back to Pennsylvania. They were coal miners and Presbyterians. In addition to the name Dunn, the line includes, Barrowman, Wilson, MacTaggart and Miller. However, I am missing 3 vital pieces of information: 1.. They attended the Beaver Meadows Church in the 1840s and 1850s but I have been unable to find baptismal records (circa 1842 and 1850) for children Mary Ann, Thomas, Janet, Elizabeth and Jane. 2.. After Thomas returned from North Carolina, he lived in the Jeanesville area and attended Audenried Church. I have been unable to fine the baptismal records (circa 1866 - 1882) for his children Margaret, Mary, Janet, Elizabeth, Isabel, Barbara, Agnes and Thomas. 3.. I have been unable to find the above family in the 1870 census. All evidence shows they lived in Jeanesville, Luzerne County at that time but attended Church in Carbon County. Does anyone know of resources I have missed? Thanks, Fred

My grandfather (Samuel Coleman) is listed as being at the "Fresh Air Camp" run by the Volunteers of America in 1910. He was only 3 years old and his mother was in Buffalo at the time. Was this a place that kids went to try and cure tuberculosis? Also, does anyone have any information on this camp? Thanks! Casey Gilliam Zgonc http://www.caseysroots.com

In the last few weeks, the Pennsylvania Archives has added some remarkable free online resources to the already-available Warrant Registers at: http://www.phmc.state.pa.us/bah/dam/landrec.htm "Scanned Land Records" These pages include instructions on how to search the records, and an abbreviated history behind the early process of recording the land transactions. I've been ordering these survey maps from the Archives for seven years for mapping purposes and it is truly a wonderful addition to online research to be able to avoid the cost and time of waiting for search results and photocopies of survey maps, warrants, and patents to arrive by snail mail. In addition, the Archives may, in the near future, accept volunteer help in transcribing the already easy-to-read records so in the future a database can be searched rather than having to review page-by-page hundreds (likely thousands) of pages. Possibly RootsWeb could help the Archives to organize this effort. Specifically the resources are: Warrant Registers Patent Indexes Copied Survey Books Patent Tract Name Index East Side Applications (Register) West Side Applications (Register) New Purchase Register Please pass on as I am only emailing the Pennsylvania lists pertaining to my research!
