    1. [PACARBON] McCready family (families)
    2. Michael Gallagher
    3. I'm trying to track down the relationship between the Summit Hill McCreadys. I descend from John & Mary (yes, McCready was apparently her maiden name) and they are perhaps related to Thomas as he too is listed as Scot-English (1910). (1910 U.S. Census) PENNSYLVANIA , CARBON, 2-WD SUMMIT HILL Series: T624 Roll: 1327 Page: 209 John & Mary are in 1900 and 1910: (1900 U.S. Census) PENNSYLVANIA , CARBON, 3-WD SUMMIT HILL Series: T623 Roll: 1391 Page: 207 (1910 U.S. Census) PENNSYLVANIA , CARBON, 3-WD SUMMIT HILL Series: T624 Roll: 1327 Page: 231 John is boarding in 1920. SD7 ED 39 page 8B Anybody aware of these connections or the McCready house that was across from the firehouse (in the 1920s & 1930s as my grandmother told me and she was born in 1921)? My grandmother's father was Russel Robert McCready. John & Mary were his parents. Thank you, Michael Gallagher

Genealogy bank is a good resource for information regarding personal events in the lives of some of our ancestors, 1700's on up! I have found a great deal of info on the site, ranging from a property sale in 1810 in Berks County to the death of a distant cousin in Philadelphia. That was a great tracking experience, in 1870 the relation was in Lehighton, just married, 1880 in Bethlehem/Allentown, 1900 in Philadelphia, followed by two property transactions on Rising Sun Ave. in Philadelphia in 1911 and 1916, and the 1920 census in Philadelphia, and another at an unknown date. Luck was with me with this line since the family had unusual given names. This family was Susanna Roth, daughter of Stephen Roth and Charlotte McDaniel, who was a daughter of James McDaniel and Lydia Klotz, James being the son of Robert McDaniel and Elizabeth Hicks of Mahoning Twp., Carbon. The search was done on Susan's husband Benneville K. Hausman. the children were Winfield Scott, Ward Beecher, C. John, (likely Chauncey, and Mary C., born between 1870 and 1878. Between Ancestry for census records and Genealogy Bank I was able to follow this family from the mid 1800's thru 1920. To do this "on foot", would have taken years of time and a lot of money. Backed with on site research at Dimmick Library in their newspaper files and historys it all came together. Judy ----- Original Message ----- From: "Vincent E. 3. I belong to genealogybank.com and here is the article they have for this story: In Carbon County, PA, Sunday week, Anton Kloefel, who is a clerk in a New York bakery, shot and killed his wife at the residence of her parents. The couple were singing in the kitchen. The husband asked his wife to sing a certain song, and on her refusal seized a shotgun, placed the cap which had been removed, on the nipple, took aim at his wife and deliberately fired. The shot entered the left eye and caused almost instant death. Kloefel was arrested after he informed one of the neighbors of his crime. A crowd soon assembled and there were cries of "hang him" and "Serve him as Snyder, the Northampton County double murderer, was served", but the prisoner was safely lodged in the Mauch Chunk Jail. He offered to shoot himself if provided with a revolver. The murdered woman was 19 years old, and had been married but four months. -----Original Message----- From: pacarbon-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:pacarbon-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Judy Sent: Thursday, January 31, 2008 7:20 PM To: PACARBON-D@rootsweb.com Subject: [PACARBON] Interesting article Thought this might interest someone on the list. 3. A few weeks ago, I dug out an old notebook I inherited. I can't connect all of the information in it to my tree but I figure it must connect somehow. The notes were written by Arlene Hollar (Summit Hill High School class of 1927 & faculty) of 43 E. Ludlow St. outlining mainly her mother's father (Lewis F. Rex)'s family. As my branch of Rexs spent 1739-1946 in Lehigh & Carbon Counties (Arlene's half-sister, my grandmother, moved away), I'm hoping someone can help me connect spouses of siblings where the spouses may be siblings and connect loose ends such as Alfred Mertz and Mary Ann (son Elmer died 11/13/1971 at age 84). There are also obituaries or lists of them in/on the pages that I can't connect or find. I'm hoping someone can help as it seems there was much entanglement between families in these counties.
