Sorry to hear about your father :( So much cancer in this world you would think we would have a cure by now. I lost my grandmother 2 years ago to brain cancer after a 2 year fight, then a few weeks later my husbands aunt (same thing) and then a friend of mine who was married with three kids (he was 38) a year ago. Williams, William B., resident of Emerald, Lehigh County, was born on the Isle of Anglesey, North Wales, Oct 8, 1835. He was shipwrecked along the Atlantic coast on Dec 19, 1856 and the following day he was brought to shore by a life-boat near Atlantic City, NJ. On Dec 21, he and his companion, John L. Jones who was saved with him). In Feb., 1857 he went to Salington. In Aug, 1862, he enlisted in Co. K. 176th PA. He married Mary Ann Jones, who was born at Lehigh Furance, Lehigh County, July 9, 1847. Members of the Welsh Episcopalian church. They had 10 children. Williams, William H. Henry Williams, pioneer was born in Wales on Dec 21, 1818. He maried in Wales to Laura (Evans) born 1816 and died 1871. They had 6 children, two of whom died in infancy the other 4 were named William H., Catharine, married William T. Owens, Mary W., married John W. Jones. William H.. only son of Henry, was born Nov. 26, 1846 at Slateport. In 1884, he married Sarah A. Houseman, d/o Jonas and Elizabeth (Kern) Houseman. Shiffer-Northumberland County Charles Shiffer, of Sunbury, was born Dec 8, 1847,at Effort, Monroe county, son of Abraham and grandson of Conrad. Conrad Shiffer lived at Brodheadsville, Monroe County. Children; George, Conrad,Charles, Jacob, Abraham,John and Sally Ann, who married John Kresge. Abraham Shiffer, was born May 18, 1823, and died May 5, 1892. He lived at Brodheadsville, he was a member of the Reformed Church. He was married to Julian "Searfos", d/o William, she was born in 1829 and died Feb. 1881, they had a son, Charles. Charles Shiffer married in 1871 to Savanna Williams, d/o Jacob and Hannah ("Workheiser")Williams, who then lived at Gouldsboro, then Luzerne now Lackawanna county. They had two children, Hubert F., Jamison City, Columbia County, married Esther Sutliff and had one child (La Rue). Raymond, manger of the Western Union Telegraph Company at Sunbury. Northampton County Jones, Oliver K. of Freemansburg, was born Nov. 28, 1838, s/o Joseph B. and Eliza (Keck) Jones, the latter born in Northampton the former in Lehigh. John Jones, the great-grandfather, was said to have been a native of Wales, came to America as a young man. Oliver K., married Feb. 3, 1863, Clara Oberly, d/o John S., and Catharine (Shimer) Oberly. They were from Northampton County. Children; Harry O., and Charles, both of whom were employed in the War Department of the U.S. Government at Bethlehem under Capt. McNutt. Jones, Joseph E., of Bethlehem township, was born in Northampton County, June 3, 1826, s/o Joseph and Mary (Butz) Jones, also native of Northampton. Griffith Jones, the great-grandfather, was a native of Wales, and was one of the first settlers of Bethlehem township and came to this county in 1750. Joseph E., married Anna E. Messinger, and they had two children, Isabella C. and Flora A. Bethlehem Shaw, Joseph, one of the English members, who was said to have studied for the church but was obliged by ill-health to abandon it. Althouse, Samuel Leinbach, of Sellersville, Bucks Co., was born Dec 12, 1874, s/o Elmer Ellsworth (born Dec 12, 1874) (married June 30, 1897) and Margaret G. (Leinbach) Althouse. The pioneer ancestor of the Althouse family in America was Arndt (Andrew) Althouse. Emmigrated for Germany in the ship "Fane". arrived at Phila., Oct 17, 1749, located at Tohickon, near Church Hil, in Haycock township. He and his wife, Anna Maria were members of the Tohickon Reformed Church, at Church Hill and their son Daniel was bp there March 4, 1753. Daniel was a farmer in Haycock township until he located in Bedminster township dying there in 1795. By his 1st wife he was the father of 7 children; Maria, Frederick, Abraham, Conrad, Michael, Jacob and Rebecca. By his 2nd wife, he was the father of 5 children; Isaac, Daniel, Elizabeth, Martin and George. Frederick Althouse born at Haycock, in 1783, died in Rockhill township, Jan 26, 1852. History of Northumberland County Barto Oliver S. Barto, (subject) owned the Farmers Hotel, at Watsontown. The Bartos are of French Huguenot extraction, the French form of the name being Perdeau. Three came to America in the early days, one John Barto locating in Berks county, in 1730. Isaac Barto mentoned was a large taxable in Oley township, in 1759. His descendant are still living in Washington township. Some time prior to 1735 Jean Perdeau located in Colebrooke township, Berks Co,where he died in 1770. Abraham Barto, great-grandfather, of Oliver S., was born in 1824, in Colebrook, and lived there till his moved to Northumberland county, in 1857. Member of the Reformed church. He died Jan 29, 1898. He married Anna (Deysher) d/o Jacob, of Pike township, Berks county. He was married twice, and survived by both wives. His family consisted of three children, all born of the 1st wife. Samuel, Joseph and Polly (twins). Joseph lived near Berwick, Polly married Jacob Kissner. Samuel Blank,son of Joseph, was born in 1814, ded 1868, he was a member of the Lutheran church and is buried in the cemetery back of Briar Creek. (Salem township) and she died in 1867, aged 48, the mother of the following, one daughter, died in infancy, Katie Ann, died young, Rolandus, of West Pittston, Elmira, wife of Benjamin Eveland of Jonestown, Daniel C., Malinda, who married Samuel M.
