    3. No we only know of him, don't know if any others came over. We think we have him in Summit Hill, Mauch Chuck as a border with a Cunningham in 1870, but not sure if it's really him as the name was so common. Family lore says he came from Donegal and a source also said most of the Irish in Summit Hill came from the Donegal area. We haven't been able to get his war records as he enlisted when the war was ending and he was not a "volunteer". We have his wife's application for pension after he died tho. When he first came over he was in Mauch Chunk, then Summit Hill and Lansford PA. There are so many. I am finding that so many in that small area are related in one way or another. The pioneer anecestor of the family was Arndt (Andrew) Althouse, came from Germany in the Ship Fane, Oct 17, 1749. He located on the Tuhickon near Church Hill, in Haycock township. The Custer family is of German decent, and one of the oldest in the county, the Chester branch being remotely connected to General Custer, who lost his life on the plains fighting Indians. William Custer, paternal grandfather, was a mason by trade. He married and reared a large family, children; Anna Ramsey, Mary Vandyke, Margaret, Bethel Moore, Amos, and John. John Custer, the father, was a farmer and a stone mason. He was in the War of 1812, he died at age 67. He married Elizabeth Osborn, and they had children; Mary A. Henry Matter, was born in Hamburg, Berks Co, Dec 25, 1834, in 1854 he married Elizabeth Hinkle. Children; Charles C., Harry, and Emily. Bossler, Alfred J., of New Ringgold, s/o George E., and Anna (Snyder) Bossler, was born in Windsor, Berks Co., Nov 10, 1836. Grandfather Jacob Bossler, was born in Berks Co, and died there in 1846. He married Mollie Engle, they had six sons and three daughters. George Bossler, was born in Windsor township, he died in Perry township, his wife was a d/o Benjamin Snyder of Kutztown, Berks Co., in 1835 Alfred J., married Magdalena Unger, d/o Samuel and Elizabeth Unger, of Perry township, Berks Co. Brown, George L, of Minersville, Schuylkill County, was born in Milton, Northumberland Co., on Dec 6, 1838, s/o Isaac and Mary A. (Lawrence) Brown. His grandfather, was a native of Northampton County, and some time prior to the War of 1812, moved to Clinton County. His son, the father of George L., was born May 23, 1804, Northampton Co., and died at Milton, Northumberland Co., in 1833. He married Mary Lawrence, d/o George and Esther, of Milton. They had 9 chidren; George died as a baby, Carrie L., who married Col. H. A. Fonda, George, William H., Isaac located in Chicago, Webster, of Iowa, Mary E., married A.E. Slocum, of NY and James died in infancy. George L. Brown, married Rachel Moore, d/o Samuel of Slouchburg, Berks Co. Dietz, Christian, of Mechanicsburg, was born in York Co, Oct 3, 1832, s/o Daniel and Lydia (Stoner) Dietz. He was 5 when his parents moved to Cumberland Co. On Jan 24, 1856 married Elizabeth Wilt, of Cumberland Co and a d/o John and Elizabeth Wilt, natives of Lancaster Co. Children; George W., married Elizabeth Schuman and they had (Christian S, Frank and Walter), Alice J., married Fred S. Mumma and they had (Ralph, Milton, Edith, Frederick, Frank, Robert and William), Rebecca married Frank Basehor and they had (Samuel, Mary, George, and Mabel). Milton married Flora Schaeffer, and they had (Wilber and George), Catharine married M. W. Hertzler, and they had (Cora E.). Dietz, Daniel, grandfather, was born in York Co., s/o George, and moved to East Pennsboro township,Cumberland Co. He married Lydia Stone, native of York Co., children; David married Caroline Sheely, Mary, married John Snavely, Zachariah, married Anna Roth, Christian, married Elizabeth Wilt, Nancy, married Martin Brinton of Dauphin Co., and Elizabeth who died in childhood. Christian was born Oct 2, 1832 in York Co. He married Elizabeth, d/o John and Elizabeth (Mann( Wilt, of East Pennsboro, in 1856. Milton C., of Hampden, Cumberland township, was born July 12, 1864, s/o Christian and Elizabeth (Wilt) Dietz.. On Dec 6, 1888, he married Flora J. Shaeffer, d/o John and Elizabeth (Rupp) Shaeffer.
