I cannot get further back in time regarding who Aaron WASHBURN's parents are until I search Church records in Easton, hopefully within a week. If anybody recognizes any possible names here please e-mail me. Aaron's first showing on the Census is 1850, by himself. Obviously prior to 1850 only head of households were listed so the Census dead ends going back in time there. My gut feeling regarding the ancestral line for Aaron based on the geography of where Aaron was I believe he descends from Silence & Jesse WASHBURN, any one of the sons, Jesse Jr., Daniel or Caleb. When examining the actual records first microfilmed we see he served after the Wyoming massacre in the "Inactive Militia", Northampton, 6th Battalion, 5th Company under Capt. Conrad READER, 5th Class and mustered out October 26, 1780, published A(5)VIII, 442-55. Also find a certificate proving active duty, service dates not supplied, issued on 30 January 1786, certificate # 10,247 and given 7 pounds. *The Following was part of "Re-Microfilming". Also find a certificate issued 4 January 1786 for Militia, Northampton, service dates not supplied, certificate # 8708 and given 10.10.0 Pounds. Also find a certificate for "active duty", Northampton, Private 6th Battalion Lt. Col. Philip BEAM, Class 3, service May 25 to July 23, 1782, Company or Commander - Capt. Adam STAHLER, Duty - "On the frontiers" - Substituted for Jacob BENINGER, muster out @ Gnadenhutten July 24, 1782, published A(5)VIII, 495-8. If your wondering what & where Gnadenhuetten (proper spelling) is, located where present day Borough of Weissport, PA near Borough of Lehighton or near better known Bethlehem. Gnadenhuetten means "tents of grace" or literally translated, "mercy huts". What was unusual is the Moravians converted native Indians to Christianity and they all lived together, natives and Europeans alike. Cheers and Happy Holidays, Ken Maxwell [email protected]

    1. Re: [PACARBON] McDaniel, Solt, Klotz, Roth in Carbon
    2. Judy
    3. Hi Ken, The original subject line is mine, Mike was replying to my posting in which I was trying to find out who the parents of the Robert McDaniel born 1820 in PA in the 1850 Carbon census are. This particular Robert shows in Towamensing, just a little north and east of the east end of Palmerton, that is where his home shows on the 1875 Towamensing map, somewhat near the Franklin Twp. line. This is the map 1875 survey map which has the locations of the homes with the names of the owners on it. Nearby is C. Klotz and a little to the west, at Little Gap are L. Klotz and J. Klotz. Ammon Klotz shows in the 1880 census in Towamensing and this man is the son of Christian Klotz and Elizabeth McDaniel, Elizabeth's father was Robert being the early settler in Carbon, in Mahoning Twp. A D. Washburn appears on the east end of Towamensing on the same map. My problem is that there is no documentation connecting Robert b. 1820 with any of the known children of Robert and Elizabeth McDaniel of Mahoning, though I have yet to run across a Carbon McDaniel who is not connected to them. I suspect that he is a son of Robert Jr. who is stated to have gone west in the M & H Carbon history. By 1820 the earlier Robert and Elizabeth, married about 1884, would have been 64 and 53 respectively so it isn't likely that the 1820 Robert is a son, more likely a grandson. The prevalent practise of farming out the children at an early age to help other families seemed to be common with the McDaniels so this makes tracking difficult. The Solt mention arises because I found a marriage record for a Mary MacDaniels to a Conrad Solt in the 1822, in the records of Rev. Meendensen, one listing shows Whitehall for the location and another Penntown which is the name for a location between Andres and Bowmanstown on Rt. 895 south of Lehighton, and there is a first communion mention in 1809 for a Maria McDaniel at the Ben Salem Church in Carbon, so she is very likely a granddaughter of Robert and Elizabeth or an unknown, late born daughter of the couple. I found Conrad Solt in Towamensing church records in several mentions in the 1820's and 30's, as sponsor for multiple baptisms there. I think a Solt also married a Greenzweig. In the M & H history the Solt family includes a Conrad, son of Jacob Solt. In the listings of Jacob Solt and wife's children there is a Polly, given as "Polly, (Mrs. Conrad Solt). later in the Solt information it is stated that Conrad never married! Can't have it both ways can they? I think that since Polly was the common nick-name for Mary that this is the Mary McDaniel who married the Conrad Solt who "never married", and not a daughter of Jacob Solt but a daughter-in-law. Another clue is that the 1820 born Robert McDaniel was a farmer, as was Robert Sr. In the census records this Robert states that his birthplace is PA, and I believe I saw an 1880 census record for him which stated his parents were born in PA. Robert (Sr.) and Elizabeth's obituaries appeared in the Carbon Transit, a short lived newspaper out of Mauch Chunk, Robert dying in 1847 and Elizabeth in 1844. I have a rough draft of the information about these families I would be happy to send to you if you would be interested in seeing it. Just let me know. It states that his father was Samuel Reinsmith, Jr. I have looked at all the family trees on rootsweb and see that there are two different women listed as Samuel's wife. One is Catherine, the other Louisa. Reuben Reinsmith, b. 1825, whom I believe is a brother to my James, is listed in the census records with his wife whose name is Louisa. Does anyone have the true identity of Samuel Reinsmith Jr.'s wife? Unfortunately it was marked as unknown on James' death certificate. James m. Maria Lauchnor in Mahoning, Carbon Co., PA. 1. [PACARBON] McDaniel, Solt, Klotz, Roth in Carbon
    2. Judy
    3. Hello list, While doing research on my McDaniel line in Carbon County I found a Mary McDaniel who was confirmed at Ben Salem Church in 1809. Following that find I located a marriage for Conrad Solt and Mary Mack Daniels in 1822 in Whitehall. Conrad appears in the 1850 Carbon census in Lehigton at age 58 with wife Mary age 47 and the following people: Elizabeth Kutz, age 18; Thomas Dreisbach, age 26; Maria Dengler, age 16; Henry Solt, age 13. Conrad Solt appears as sponsor in many of the baptisms at St. John's Towamensing church. He appears as a sponsor with Maria Kerchner at the 1837 baptism of Conrad Lewis Klotz, son of Carl Klotz and Katherine Greenzweig. He also appears as a sponsor for the baptism of Carl Dreisbach son of Johann Dreisbach and Elizabeth in 1823. A Robert McDaniel appears in Towamensing Twp. in the 1850 census with Elizabeth Green (Greenzweig is the actual surname). We are trying to connect this Robert McDaniel with the McDaniel family of Mahoning, earlier Penn Twp., Carbon County. Robert shows as age 30 in this census, making his birth year about 1820. In the "History of Carbon County PA", the following is found regarding the Solt family: "The earliest permanent settlers in the limits of what is now Franklin township were, without doubt, the Solt family, who settled on land part of which is now owned by Mrs. Maria Colton. Of this family John Solt was the father. In 1781 the names that appear on the assessment roll are John Solt, Sr., David, Daniel and John. John Jacob Solt lived on the farm now owned by Mrs. Maria Colton on Poho Poco Creek. He had sons, Jacob, Conrad, Peter and Daniel, and daughters, Eve (Mrs. David Shafer), Susan (Mrs. Daniel Arner), Polly (Mrs. Conrad Solt), Betsey (Mrs. Jacob Swank), Maria (Mrs.Daniel Solt). Jacob settled on part of the old homestead, and died in 1882 at the age of eighty-six years. He left two sons, Isaiah and Reuben. They are both living in the township. Two daughters, Sarah (Mrs. Franklin Klotz) and Elizabeth (Mrs. John Hill, both live in the township. Conrad remained unmarried and died many years ago." I believe that the Polly mentioned as Mrs. Conrad Solt is really John Jacob Solt's daughter-in-law, not his daughter and that since Polly is a nickname for Mary that this Polly is Mary McDaniel a heretofore unknown daughter of Robert McDaniel and wife Elizabeth Hicks of Mahoning Twp, especially since Conrad's wife is listed as Mary in the 1850 census. In Elizabeth Hicks McDaniel's 1844 obituary in the "Carbon Transit" newspaper, (Mauch Chunk, Dimmick Library), states that the couple had 9 children, 3 sons and 6 daughters, and 28 grandchildren. The children listed in Matthews and Hungerford's History of Carbon County only show Lydia, Elizabeth, Rachel, Nancy, James and Robert. A Charlotte McDaniel married a Stephen Roth in 1833 in Mauch Chunk. This couple shows in Mahoning in the 1860 census. age 43. This would make her birth year 1817. As yet we have not been able to definitely connect this McDaniel as one of the descendants of Robert and Elizabeth. Robert came to Carbon County in 1783, married Elizabeth Hicks about 1785. Any information about any of these people would be most appreciated. Sincerely, Judy McElderry
