Does anyone have any info on the Schell family of Northampton (later Monroe and Carbon Co)? This is different that the Shelly family. There was a David Schell who married Elisabeth ?. He was born abt. 1797 and died before 1870 (from census records). Elisabeth was born about 1800 and died after 1870. They had two children that I know of Lena (b. Feb 1823 and died 12.23.1902, buried at Dinkey Memorial Cemetery, Ashfield) and Uriah (b. 10.15.1838 and died 11.16.1911, also buried at Dinkey Memorial. Lena married Daniel Shelly about 1846. They had 8 children: 2 died as infants that I don't have names for; David (1849), Lydiann (1850), Sarah Ann (1855), Uriah (1858), Jerome (1859) and Mary Jane (1863). Searching through St. John's Church Records (Towamensing), I've found a Ludwig and Elisabeth Schell, which I have no record of. Sound familiar to anyone? Thanks. Michelle

Michelle, I have a bunch of chronological baptisms from the St Johns Church at Towamensing---there are a few baptisms listed for Peter and Maria BLOSS, though maybe too early, ranging from 1812 to 1820--this seems too early for Maria Among all the different sponsors, are a George EDELMAN and Maria for one; and a Nicol. BLOSS/Catherine EDELMAN for another; a Peter PELTZ/Katharine MUFFLI for anther; William KERN/Elizabeth for another. ---------------------- Unfortunately, I see NO Lovina's infants in the area of 1828 that would fit in. The baptised children of Peter and Maria that I found were: Johannes, b. 1812; Daniel, b, 1813; Simon, b. 1818; and Wilhelm b. 1820. You may want to check for these above SURNAMEs for Maria ( ? ) BLOSS. You already found the EDELMAN. Good Luck Evan, I'm right here. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Michelle LeClair" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, March 04, 2004 11:27
I have a Peter Blose and Maria in my database. This might be the one you are looking for, even though I don't have a daughter Lovina listed for them. I have: Peter Blose, born 16 Apr 1787, died 19 Sept 1855, married Maria. Their known children from baptismal records are: Carl, born 21 Nov 1810 Thomas, born Feb 1812, died 22 June 1868 Daniel, born 28 Aug 1813, died 30 May 1854 Solomon, born 10 Dec 1815 - died 27 May 1853 Simon, born 3 Jan 1818 William, born 18 Jan 1820 Helen, born 8 Oct 1826 Dalice -----Original Message----- From: Michelle LeClair [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Thursday, March 04, 2004 12:28 PM To: [email protected] Subject: [PACARBON] Blose (Bloss) Conundrum I posted a message a couple of days ago concerning Lovina Blose who married William Strohl. This would be the natural link BUT I think there's another Peter and Maria somewhere. To keep things clear, I'm going to say Edelman for the first couple and just Peter and Maria for the second because this gets confusing fast. The Peter (of Peter and Maria Edelman) died in 1828. He was born and died in Washington Twp of Lehigh Co. Lovina was born in 1828 which doesn't rule anything out but she was raised in Towamensing Twp. I found census records of a Peter and Maria living in Towamensing Twp. from 1830, 1840 and 1850. By 1860 this Peter had died and Maria was living with Thomas (presumed son from earlier records). This couple also seemed to have a son Benjamin. He lived next door for a couple of the censuses. And stayed living next door through 1860 when Maria was living with her son. So the end question of all this is, do you have any info on another Peter and Maria in Towamensing Twp? Based on census info, Peter and Maria were born between 1780 and 1790. I've checked the other info on my Blose lines and don't have any other sons named Peter. The one family that seems like a possibility is George Conrad and Anna Magdalena Daubenspeck's son Henry. We have proof he went to Towamensing Twp. I only have 2 children listed for him, Catherine and John (b. 1798). In the 1790 census of Towamensing, it lists 2 sons and 2 daughters. In 1800 (Towamensing Twp) he was listed with 3 sons and 3 daughters. So this Peter could be the other son listed in 1790. Whew. Understand all this so far? Hi, I had no luck with the name Fratis. Best Wishes, Geri
Bucks Co Erdman, Oliver, at Steinburg, is decended from a family who came from Germany early in this county's history. The great-grandfather of Oliver, had 7 children. Hi, Michelle, Do you remember me?? Seems like you're still at it! Back in March 2002, you were looking for Amelia (STROHL), who married Emanuel BERGER! I have the STROHL books still cooking, and I noticed in your recent post, that you have a little new info that I didn't yet have. Would you mind if I include it in my Peter STROHL book, and credit YOU with this information, specifically:: (I still have a Footnote with your name on it!) . . . .That William re-married Harriet (ARNER), widow of Isaac ZIEGENFUSS. I didn't know her maiden name, nor her previous husband. Nor did I know WHY there was a youngster named ZIEGENFUSS in that household! This is so helpful to the scope of that particular book, remember, the Peter STROHL Book. That has been one of the HARDEST connections I've ever had to make---the one of Lovina dying, and Harriet coming in around 1860 and continuing the family! I was so proud of myself when I put all this together, but even happier when I read, L.. Wesley ARGO's book called "French, German, and Swiss Links in Pennsylvania...Descendants and Ancient Ancestors----Bertsch, . . . . ., Strohl, Thom, and Troxel" Wesley has made the same connection!!! So I felt even MORE comfortable when I read your email concerning this family, too. By the way, I have Levina/Lovina's parents as Peter BLOSS and Maria ( ? ), and she was born on June 23, 1828. "BLOSS" was the spelling on her headstone, if I remember correctly. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I have a new email since we last corresponded, if you will please drop me a reply: < [email protected] > If you have me in your address book, please change it. Thanks, my dear. Let me know if you hear of any other infor on this family---I am updating the Peter Book as we speak, and would like to assimilate the new data. Thanks, Evan R. STROHL Florida
Hi, I am searching the WEIDA(W) and GETZINGER families from Carbon, Lehigh and Luzerne counties. My great grandfather Daniel Weidaw married Julia SHULTZ in July of 1849 in Carbondale. I am searching for info on Daniel, his ancestors and descendants and also on the Getzinger Family. Any help appreciated. The Weidaw family were all over these 3 counties since the mid 1700's. Thanks in advance. Susie ________________________________________________________________ The best thing to hit the Internet in years - Juno SpeedBand! Surf the Web up to FIVE TIMES FASTER! The Price family wasn't from Carbon Co. nor were they taken at the same time. My first post said that their journey and trials were very similar to the Gilbert family's. I was pointing out that there was a pattern to the PA captivies so that those trying to trace such incidences would begin to know where to look. Honor >>> geri brennan <[email protected]> 03/01/04 10:38AM >>> Capivity of the Gilbert Family in 1780-The hegira of the inhabitant following the Gnadenhutten massacre and other Indian atrocities left the transmontane region a desolitue solitude, but as years passed on in compartive tranquillity the few who had been settled in what is now Carbon County returned, and were reinforced by others, who opened farmes in the fertile valleys. Among the latter class was Benjamin Gilbert, who in 1775, located on Mahoning Creek, and built a mill a few miles from Fort Allen was erected. He was an old man, married to his 2nd wife, who was the widow of Bryan Peart, and had been like himself, a resident of Byberry, 15 miles from Phila. Their united families of children made a large household. In this same neighborhood lived the Dodsons and other families. On the 25 of April, 1780, the Gilberts were surprised by a party of 11 Indians, whose appearance struck them with terror; to attempt an escape was death ( says thewriter of an elaborate narrative of this incident of pioneer times)6 (The account here given of the capitivty of the Gilbert family taken from Hazard's Register, of May 1829, in which the narritive, written a few years after the occurrance, was republised) "and a portion of distress not easy to be supported the certain attendant on the most patent and submissive conduct. The Indians who made this incursion were of differnt tribes or nations, who had abandoned their country on the approach of Gen. Sullivan's aramy and fled within the command of the Brithis forts in Canand, promiscuously settling within their neighborhood, and according to Indian customs of carrying on war, frequently invading the frontier settlement, taking captive the weak and defenseless. "The names of these Indian, with their respective tribes, are as follows. "Rowland Monteur, first captian;John Monteur, second in command, who was also styled captain, these two were Mohawks, decended of a French woman; Samuel Harras, a Cayuga Indian, John Houston, and his son, John Jr., Cayugas, John Fox, Delware nations. The other five were Sencas. At this place they made captive of the following persons; Benjamin Gilbert, aged 69; Elizabeth, his wife, 53, Joseph Gilbert,, his son 41, Jesse another son aged 19, Sarah. wife to Jesse, aged 19, Rebecca a daughter, aged 16, Abner, son, age 14, Elizabeth, age 12, Thomas Peart, son to Benjamins Gilbert's wife, age 23, Benjamin Gilbert, son of John Gilbert, of Phila, aged 11, Andrew Harrigar, of German descent, hired by Benjamin Gilbert, aged 26, Abigail Dodson (daughter of Samuel Dodson) aged 14. They then proceeded to Benjamin Peart's dwelling, about a half mile father, and brought himself and family, viz; Benjamin Peart, son of Benjamin Gilbert's wife, aged 27, Elizabeth Peart, his wife aged 20 years; their child, about 9 months old. No mention of Price. Best Wishes, Geri
